This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The message boards have been upgraded. Please log in to your existing account by clicking here. It will ask twice, so that it can properly update your password and login information. Other Games / TF2 - any players here?
« on: September 12, 2008, 12:23:52 am »
And what's your favorite server?

Mine is the Team Lethal server : 8.9.30.208:27015

Doesn't hurt that I'm a member and junior admin there....;) But there's a great set of people there.

I'm there most nights after 7pm. Started playing a bit more demo and spy recently. Still suck at spy, but I get a few kills.

Media and Inspiration / Looking for a clock radio
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:39:12 am »
This is going to sound really stupid. I saw an episode of Sesame Street that had a clock radio that looks just like the one in the game Portal.

I finally remembered to search for it, but I can't find it. I remember it was a brand I've seen at Wal-Mart, but not a house brand.

Any chance in hell someone knows what I'm talking about?

Anyone here going to be at Dragon*Con?

No one did last year. Just wondering if that's changed this year!

Help Desk / Avitar not showing?
« on: August 15, 2008, 08:13:33 pm »
I'm confused here - I show an avitar when I go to my profile page, but looking at my posts I don't see one. Logging out and back in didn't help - I never saw it there, either.

Anyone know why?

Need some help here. A friend of mine has been gaming with the hubby and me. We just finished a Riddle of Steel game, with the death of the PCs, so we decided to play something else.

The other guy chose Hunter: the Reckoning.

I've never played it, and only played 1 session of WoD in general (Vampire with the same friend running it. Not the best). Hubby's running it, so we have a fair chance of actually having fun.

My problem is - what's it like? I'm a D&D style player. I prefer high fantasy usually, and mostly dislike modern games, which this is. But I'm not the focus, and my opinion is not quite as important :/ What sort of characters have you ran? How easy is it to pick up?

And is there a character generator out there? I didn't find one googling...

Media and Inspiration / rpgbomb anyone?
« on: April 08, 2008, 11:05:24 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone here has seen or has a profile on rpgbomb.com? It's a myspace clone for gamers.

It's just started up, and I have a profile over there. Friend me, becasue I'm an attention whore!  http://rpgbomb.com/~rpgbomb0/SheWolf

Seriously, though, it's a pretty cool site. It's got it's own forums, an arcade (a lot of those miniclip type games), of course, the blog, classifieds, and a lot more. They're in beta right now, so there's placeholder text and a few bits of unimplemented features, but most everything is in place.

And if you decide to register, tell 'em shewolf sent ya!

Media and Inspiration / Laptop woes
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:08:35 am »
My mom gave me a old laptop (Win 98 56Mbegs ram!). The problem is I need to replace the CD drive. It will play DVD movies fine, but it will not read a CD. I've got old games that should run, clean disks, no scratches. I either get a BESOD or it spins a long time then claims nothing is in the drive.

So help me out. It's an old HP Pavilion. Do I need an HP drive, or can I just buy something off the shelf.

I've tried new drivers, and it didn't help.

Help Desk / Reply box shrinks?
« on: January 12, 2008, 02:56:31 am »
In Opera, when I reply to a message, the text window shrinks to about 12 letters wide. The smiley box stays in the same place.

It's not just reply, as it just did it with this post too.

FWIW, it doesn't happen at tBP. (With the modifications there, I'm gonna call it similar software)

The quick reply box does it too.

Any ideas what's going on?

Using Opera version 9.24, and XP.

Media and Inspiration / Truck trouble- can anyone help?
« on: August 21, 2007, 07:00:35 pm »
Got a bit of backstory here - so bear with me...

Ok. Mom has a Nissan pickup with almost 300k miles on it. The other day, she added a quart of oil (it had gotten low) and FORGOT the oil cap. Drove with it that way. Luckily, the cap was still on the engine. I fill it up, and because I'm so brilliant, I overfilled it. A lot.

Now, after a) slinging oil everywhere and B) getting an extra quart, it's running like shit. I've used engine cleaner on the exposed surfaces, drained some of the extra oil, and still have trouble.

The problems - no power. I was on a straight section of road and had to fight to get it past 50 mph. It runs really rough too, unless I fet it to go into passing gear (Oh, it's an automatic, too) then it's smooth. Idol and drive is rough. On the flat road, I gave it a lot of gas, and the engine whirrs up, but the truck doesn't accellerate like it should. And it jerks when it switches from 1st to 2nd gears.

Please tell me it's not the transmission....tell me it's something simple, like dirty plugs. I'm only good at basic repairs.

Media and Inspiration / Public Schools are Asstastic!
« on: August 15, 2007, 01:52:11 pm »
I posted this on TBP, so if you read it there, feel free to go to the next thread :)

I enrolled my daughter in Kindergarten in June. At the end of July, I got a letter from the school with her teacher, when the meet and greet was, and the supplies she needed.

Today, I got a call. Her birthday is past the cutoff date, so she can't go to school. I've spent $200 to get her clothes (she just had frou-frou stuff for church and ratty shit for play) a bookbag, baby wipes, whiteboard markers, and hand sanitizer.

Oops, the computer must have made a mistake. Too bad, so sad. No, we don't care that your kid is excited to go. We dont care that she's already ahead of the kids coming in to school. And we don't care that this is going to break her heart.

Seriously, since the beginning of the month, all I've heard is her asking me if today is the first day of school. The programs for "at risk" kids are bullshit jokes here, and I'm not about to make that mistake again.

In "97, NC was 41st in literacy. Our drop out rate is through the roof. Is it any wonder? AND they're changing the cut off date for the class next year from October to (depending on who I talk to) August or September. Yeah, that's gonna help. It's not like I'm trying to get a kid in so they graduate at 16 or some shit. She'll be 18, just like everyone else.

She can write, recite the alphabet, knows her numbers to 20 (after that she's sketchy) and understands fractions. Do I need her writing presidental speeches before they'll let her into their "prestigious" public school?

This is why people home school....

And I still have to figure out how to tell her....

I have found that private schools do not have an age requirement. I'm looking for a school less than an hour away. But I'm afraid all I'm going to find are those awful Fundamentalist Christian schools that think the Earth is 5,000 years old and evolution is a myth :(
