This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

For sure a "Mythic China" RPG actually created in China would be very interesting. I was hoping for something like that.

If you want to see a "Mythic China" RPG then I would suggest a Taiwan created game would be more accurate and true to the authentically real "China" then the communist cleansed Chinese version.

As said here and elsewhere. The problem is oft when you get a faction within a group that treats it as if it were a disease they need to spread to others. Preferably the younger the better now it seems. And of course there is going to be resistance. These extremist factions give the groups they are latched onto an increasingly negative image.

Look at how storygamers, or more to the point, Pundits swine and the worst of the Foregeites went at RPGs trying to co-opt RPGs to infest as many as they could. And resistance built up and still persists because they sure as hell have not given up.

A disease, a vermin, who must be cleansed with fire and murder.

Cant we use poison and murder like civilised people?

Take the Christian story of Abraham arguing with God about sparing Sodom and Gomorrah for example.  Where exactly did God smite Abraham for his presumption of arguing back to God?
Abraham wasn’t arguing back to God; he was haggling. Big difference.

He also failed!

I was thinking of Bellerophon, the most magic-item laden Greek hero, perishing when he tried to join the gods on Olympus.

He argued with God, talked him down from just destroying the city and did not get smited for his hubris.

Not really seeing the failure there.

DnD is certainly not for everyone.

For a traditional mythic feel, you can have a ton of powerful magic items, but if you challenge the gods by trying to fly to Heaven and find out The Truth, they will still smite you for your presumption. The lesson being Hubris and Nemesis.

Will they smite you?  Or will you find out that your real Dad was actually Zeus all a long.

I've tried coming up with myths for my campaign but I could never solve what I call the Apollo Problem: Is the sun the flaming wheel of Apollo's chariot, or is it the flaming eye of Horus, or is it a giant ball of gas floating millions of miles away? Only one of those things can be true, and it's possible for the PCs (through things like divination, crystal balls, or just flying real high to take a look) to figure out which of those tings is the actual truth.
...

This is your problem right here.

The PC's should not have the power to "figure it out".

Nerf magic.

Problem solved.

DnD is certainly not for everyone.

The real problem is the way the spell is named

The real problem is the way that the spell Detect Evil does not allow you to Detect Evil.

I was going back through the 'do not post in support of Trump' thread.

Holy shit, the delusions. They were all absolutely convinced Trump was going to send troops to start dragging everyone who wasn't white and heterosexual off to the death camps.

Wonder if they're talking about China's treatment of Uyghurs or the current border crisis in Tangency now.

Are these the same people who don't want you to be able to do anything until you get a vaccine and are also giving free money to everyone unless you're white? Hmmm...

Even you have to  admit that they  gave free money to everyone who isn't rich regardless of whether or not they're white.

Yeah we got our stimmies but we're locked outta the big reparations payout that isn't actually happening.

I self identify as a black american slave so just have to sit back and wait for that sweet sweet reparation money to roll in.

Who cares about what TBP is doing, he says in the thirty-five page thread born of resentment.

Come on, you know we still love you, you crazy bastard you.

Then why do you hit me so hard

I only hit because I care so much.

So which gods are real, and which aren't?

All Gods are not real except for your God I mean.
What if I believe in all gods at once? Does that mean they're all real?

Thats what you believe.
I roll to disbelieve.

Players are not allowed to make their own roll to disbelieve.  That would be meta gaming which is strictly verboten.

I don't understand why these SJWs are so obsessed with hating dead people.

Its much easier to punch down at dead people.

That seems another thing that each iteration likes to pull at least once. Dead people make easy targets because they cant defend themselves and you can point at anyone trying to defend them as morrally evil and wrong. See the current iterations obsession with Lovecraft bashing.

Stories like the Yellow King for example do eerily explain the contagiousness of the Woke mentality.

It definitely doesn't pass the Polish Medieval Authentic test.

Which, if I remember correctly, involves dunking the RPG under water and seeing if it drowns or not.

Alternate scenario: Their god does exist (it doesn't, but just for the same of argument), both worship the same god, but neither of them is evil, just misguided, and their god is too merciful to condemn either side, but also won't intervene because they must learn to figure it out for themselves. And their smite evil ability could still work regardless if it's power works off their faith rather being directly granted by their god (granted, this depends on the world's cosmology and how magic operates in the world).

Just because gods are literally real in the context of the game world that doesn't mean that everything is binary and it has to be either one extreme or the other. Maybe both sides are right and wrong at the same time for different reasons. It might not make sense to us, but the gods work in mysterious ways, etc.

The gods' involvement with the world also vary from setting to setting, or campaign style. The gods could be real, but remote and mysterious--never interfering directly, only through visions and dreams, etc.

It could be like in 4e where who was actually smited resolves at the end of the battle.
