This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"hey, nobody carries guns on this rock.  knives are probably all they need, anyway."  torin pushes away his half-eaten (and unsatisfying) soyburger.  "still, it's something.  erem, you were in the diplomatic corps, right?  wanna call that escort number?"

Erem shrugs wistfully and dials the code for the Blue Line run security.  As he waits for the line to connect, his finger drifts down to the next entry, and he mutters, "If this one doesn't work out, there's always the Corporate Security Service..."

You dial the number for Mr. Illulish, and the comm is answered almost immediately by a pleasant sounding lady.

"Personnel, this is Ms. Haren, may I help you?"

She listens as you inquire about the job; you hear typing in the background.

"We appreciate your interst! Mr. Illulish can see you at any time during normal hours, however you will need to apply in person in the Southern Sector. Any of the monorail lines will do, however the Blue Line is the most direct route. We will reimburse you for half the cost of a ticket, even if you are not accepted for the position. Our offices are located at 150 Marian Way, Southern Sector, Oldtown. Do you have any questions, Mr. Mantes?"

Erem replies into the comm, "No.  No further questions, really.  I presume we'll get an idea of the work conditions while en route via the Blue Line.  My companions and I will make arrangements and contact you again with our schedule.  Thank you for your time, Ms. Harren."

Erem closes the comm channel and smiles a tight smile to the others. "So.  Anyone care to take a tour of the Southern Sector of this garden world?  We're welcome for open applications on any business day.  Let's have an idea of what it costs to get there..."

Re-opening his comm, Erem tries to find local information on the Blue Line -- a comm code for direct assistance, or file data regarding schedules and fares.  Muttering as he keys in his queries, he asks, "Any other likely leads in the adverts?"

Round-trip tickets on any of the lines are Cr150 for coach, Cr250 for a private compartment (one-way tickets are available as well), and each train has club and dining cars. The monorails take 6 hours to make the trip, one-way, with two round trips per line, per day.

"Nothing is easy, is it?" Ronnoc blows out a breath and leans back again, hands on the top of his head, "So, what's the cost Erem? How far?"

Erem makes a sour face and sighs.  "Cr150 per person to travel with the great unwashed.  Two-fifty for a private compartment.  Round-trip.  That puts a little dent in our profit margin.  Sounds to me like they're desperate enough for workers, though, so maybe we can skimp and buy only one-way fares.  After all, it's the Blue Line we'd be working on anyway.  All we'd have to do is hop off in the North Sector again."

Smiling wanly, he adds, "Tickets are available for two trips daily.  Are we in?"

"So let me get this straight," Ronnoc looks at Erem disbelievingly, "We have to pay to go down there and interview? We're not even sure we've got the work before we take the stinking trip?"

"Ahh, well," the exasperation returns to his voice, "I guess it's off to the Southern Sector. Ken? Torin? Any other ideas?"

"Yeah," says Ken, "but we get re-imbursed, right?"

Ken's brow furrows for a moment; he looks over his shoulder at -- something, then looks back.  He makes a face, part confusion and part surprise.  Then, he says simply, "Huh."

A moment later, he turns to a passerby.  "Hey," he says to the man, "there a lot of crime on this planet?  I mean, no offense or nothin', just wonderin'.  'Cause even, uh, nice places, you know, got criminals in 'em."

The man pauses, taken aback for a moment while surveying your group.

"Well - not a lot, I guess. I'm not real sure how we stack up to other planets, truthfully. Never thought much about it. Seems lately there's been some troubles Down South, but that's to be expected. Why do you ask?"

He shrugs. "Robberies and the like. Had some trouble a few days back at a protest, riot, whatever you want to call it. They say the drug problem is getting bad too. You know, just stuff."
