This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

SOD - new pbp
« on: November 19, 2008, 05:54:37 AM »
I've been playing with some fairly simple rpg rules optimized for pbp. It tries to avoid waiting for every single player to post and it avoids everyone waiting for player X to post.  A dungeon setting makes it easy to kill off characters who flake off without disturbing the game much.  It's also rather rules light to speed things up and because I've noticed most of the stuff on a character sheet doesn't get used in pbp.  It's also intended to to be easy to jump in and figure out your character as you go.

I'm planning on running a game here with these rules in the near future. It'll be largely an old school dungeon crawl with many of the familiar tropes.  If you might be interested, download the rules and let me know what you think.

Overview:
All player characters start out Great in one ability, Good in two abilities, and Average in almost everything else. players start with only their species and one ability declared. They may decide on their other abilities during any of their actions. Each player’s post cannot include more than one action requiring a die roll. A player may not post again until at least two other players and the Dungeon have posted. Directly opposed actions are simultaneous – instead of I hit, you hit, players roll against an opponent’s ability and the loser gets hit.

I have enough written for a beginning player. Stuff to run it is in my head still as are advancement and other things. There are already things I might change but I've gotten to the point that I'd appreciate feedback. You can download all the rules so far from here:
