This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mario D20 Gamemaster

Hey all, I'm starting up a new Mario D20 campaign and looking for 3-5 players. My current campaign has been in existence for 3 years, with plenty of story left to go, but it's getting bogged down on a fairly regular basis so I'm starting another.

I use a combination of 3.5 D&D, D20 Modern, and Star Wars D20 rules, as well as Thomas Keene's Mario d20 source document, available here:

http://www.kobolds-keep.net/MD20Rules.pdf

All dice rolls will be made by me (unless I ask for a dice roll, typically for initiative or the like). Starting level is probably going to be 1st or 2nd- any races with Level Adjustments will have to be saddled with defects (GM approved) to even things out.

In addition to the races given in the MD20 document, I have created the following:

Spiny
Buzzy Beetle
Ninji

If you have a request for a race that doesn't appear to be an option, I can build it!

My requirements are few: Keep it fair, honest, friendly and fun. Try to update fairly often- after about 3 days or so I start getting impatient. No munchkins.

Power gamers will find they've got a lot to like about my style which is about 70% hack and slash and the remaining 30% divided between roleplaying and puzzle encounters. I try to keep true to the original formula and the spirit of Shigeru Miyamoto's Mario universe, although things do get a bit dark at times just by necessity- people die, enemies swear revenge, relatives are kidnapped, dark magicks invoked, etc. I do ask that you keep vulgarities to a minimum- they do not offend me by any means but you just never know who might be reading. And nobody swears in Mario World anyway, right?

Gameplay is accomplished via Google Drive- this is an absolutely amazing tool and I will help you learn to use it to its fullest potential vis a vis my campaign. You will be given a character sheet document (if you try to cheat I'll know!) to keep track of your character's inventory, skills, feats, and Star Points (a variant rule I'm using instead of XP).

If this sounds like something you're interested in, post on this thread or private message me. Try to include an email, please.

I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone who'd like to play!

I am glad to know that I am not the only person who does this.

It's actually a brilliant way to run a game- I started completely by accident though. I ran a one-shot adventure one year for Thanksgiving (I have a nerdy family), with two basic paths they could take. They took one, then didn't want to quit playing, so I made some adjustments and let them take the other, then they still didn't want to quit, so I made up a boss battle, then they didn't want to quit so I ran via email, and that led to Google Docs.

Do you have any interest in joining a new campaign?

I would be interested in doing this, however I cant get the link above to work for me(think its a browser issue :. )

Did you try copy/pasting it into your browser? Otherwise search for 'Mario D20 rules' and it should be one of the first hits.

Once you've got your race and class figured out, we'll go from there. I'm sure you've created RPG characters before, but I'll help in any way that I can.

Be ye fairly warned: I use the skill list from 4th edition. It came about in an interesting way- my current campaign has two noobs so I tried to simplify things as much as possible, which meant using the Star Wars D20 rules wherever possible. This put me quite close to 4th edition without even realizing it!

keelynasta

yea I found it give me some time to think over what I wanna be and everything and then I will talk to you about the character creation process

Congrats to those participating in my most recent campaign, which lasted an entirety of 3 posts before one player (naming no names) ruined it for everyone. Hoo rah.
