Falchion stands up and looks around at the troupe.

"Gentlemen. After studying these marking, and deep contemplation into the meaning they might have, and a bit of a detour down the contemplation of our existence, I have come to the conclusion we should appreciate birds more. Except pigeons. Fuck those flying rats! But yes, Birds. We should take time to appreciate them. With their beautiful plumage. You know, I completely overlooked how nice the word 'plumage' is. Say it a few times. 'Plumage.' 'PLUMAGE!' '"plumage.' Well, that's all I have. Oh. And we need some keys. So, unless any of you have any ideas, I am going to try using my new toy."

The warforged draws Palla Sa'salym from his left side, where his falchion normally is. He has strapped his falchion to his right hip... metal... thing...

Sano. I laughed so many times.

Really, I was just waiting to get to do something randomly stupid like that... it was totally worth it.

I bet dead people are easier to get along with.

And the fact that you didn't specify what you were looking for gave me the leeway to do as I saw fit. I gave you useful info deserving of the roll result... just a shit ton of entertainment to go along with it.

Okay....someone drank too much mead before this quest

*looks at podium*
I think that this thing requires a few keys.

Okay then... No idea what that roll is for...

I am incredibly sorry. I meant to roll for perception. Please forgive me all mighty Sano. If I could, I will kiss your feet for forgiveness.

"Mead? The honey would get stuck in my armor and never come out."

The scarecrow looks silently at the group before him. He checks the podium the releases a "sigh".
"This podium is enchanted. We need the keys to activate whatever the mechanism is, I'm assuming. These hallways must lead somewhere. And you can bet the keys are not going to be lying on a platter awaiting us. They're sure to be guarded."
The straw man begins to proceed down the corridor to the left of the one the group entered from. Taking a cue from The Iron Giant, he drops a kernel of corn every few steps.
Whither shall I Wander?

As the scarecrow tries to enter the hallway to the left of the entrance, he finds himself repelled by a strange force. He can go no further.

Mithanos chuckles as the silly scarecrow seem to walk into a wall. "There's something here, Mr. Strawman!" he calls out. Looking at the podium, he  grins and starts messing around with it. He begins by moving the little green stone and placing it to the side, before running his finger along the smooth, shiny surface of the first ring in the podium. "There are some instructions... I think. They sound instructive... I guess... Listen."

"Trouble me not with your diamonds and pearls,
But leave to me the treasures of the natural world,
Earth, deep and strong, holds all that it keeps,
Fire so hot, yet burns not with its heat,
Wood from the forests, strong though they sway,
Water, the healer, takes all pains away

My storeroom aplenty with water ye'll know,
My tomb ye shall find ablaze and aglow,
My chambers in the third hall remains,
My treasury in its wealth the earth does contain,
My realm ye have come from, the wood here rests.

Secret is the way from here to the rest,
The rings hold the clue, the hallways, the rest,
Shift the room and the halls will remain,
Though the barriers against may very well change.

Hide from the sun
And dance with the moon,
Take a key with you,
but return it soon.

To enter my chambers, leave gems behind,
Bring not through my doorway these treasures divine,
My ways are secret, but here lies the path,
That which is first in my presence, in my past, is last."

Mithanos scratches his head before smiling. "It's a riddle! I love a good riddle! Okay, I got some stuff... Like Mr. Strawman said, we need keys. These rocks are the keys," he holds up the green rock. "If we put the right rock in the spot on the pedestal, it will activate some mecahnism that will affect the hallways. From what I can gather, if we put a rock into this small wheel up here, then turn it to where it faces a hallway, if it is the opposite of the gem hidden inside the hallway, something will happen and we'll be able to get into it. But, there's this part about hiding with the sun and dancing with the moon that I don't get. Any ideas?"

He places the green stone in the wheel and turns it so that it faces the hallway that matches the symbol that stands for 1.

So, what I'm guessing is that, each of these halls has a number, and the numbers match up with their opposites, if we ignore the one that doesn't have anything in it (the "chambers"). Of course, I could be wrong.

... The hell.
Fine...

Spoiler
As the sorcerer turns the wheel on the podium, the stone rings on the floor moves with an ominous sssshhh. The outer ring, bearing the four elemental signs, has the wood symbol lined up with the symbol marked as one. Simultaneously, you see that the hallway to your right now has a shimmering barrier in front of it. The ring with the sun and moon on it is in such a position that the earth and one symbols fall within the scope of the sun.
