This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Orlok's spell reveals nothing of a magical nature within the dark cellar.

The animal noises become a little more excited. Perhaps whatever is down there has caught a bit of your scent?

Once the casters have done their job, I'll try to block the doorway so any remaining beasties have to get through me to get to them, and I'll deal damage accordingly.

Orlok will fire his (already loaded) crossbow (at whatever it is), then drop it and ready his shield.

Next round he will also ready his sickle, and try to move into an available flanking position for Garren. If there's no way to get to a flank, he'll ready his sickle and close in on whatever it is, alongside either Garren or Lulu.

How many axes can I throw in a round?  I assume that it's only one, but something makes me think I can get away with two.  I can't find the ruling in the 3.5 SRD, though.

Whatever the exact case, Luludha has two throwing axes readied and pops off as many as possible this round.

Well, you can get away with two thrown weapons.. but they'll be at a severe penalty.

Basically your first attack (primary hand) is at -4, and your secondary is at -8. (This is taking into account that the hand axes are considered light weapons).

If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, the penalty drops to -2/-2

One. As soon as your base attack bonus reaches +6/+1 you get two attacks, one at +6 and modifiers and one at +1 plus modifiers. :)

Luludha throws her axe at the beast, 17 = hit, 3 damage. Orlok fires his crossbow, 11 = miss. Then Garren interposes and takes a big swipe at it, 14, miss.

The big beast then howls and as it does so, the skin from it's face peels back in an horrific display. Will saves, Luludha 17, Orlok 13, Garren 11.

Garren is frightened and seeks to flee the scene (sorry! )

Okay, this ought to get good.  Looking over my character sheet, I notice that Luludha is barely more effective with a hand axe than with her open palm attack, and no more likely to hit.  So, odds being what they are, it probably makes sense to apply Flurry of Blows at -2/-2 and hopefully do damage twice (yes, yes, which will be from 0 to 3 points total  ).  Let's call it a fist and a kick, shall we?

Sucks being a 1st-level halfling monk. :D

Damage will be minimum 1 point even on Flurry of Blows (yes, even if reduced to 0 or below because of strength penalty).

Yes, you should be using Flurry of Blows.

Those are iterative attacks. In this case Luludha is asking about two-handed weapon fighting (which also works with thrown weapons). It's prohibitively penalistic (as shown) if you don't have the feat, but even if you dpon't have the feat, characters can usually try it.

Not to digress too far, but wouldn't Rapid Shot be more appropriate than Two-Weapon Fighting?

I think I know the direction I want to take Luludha.  She's going to be an Old West Gunfighter, only with throwing axes.  Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Quick Draw.  She'll be one bad little woman. :D

Yeah, sorry. Didn't click! :o

Round 1

Orlok and Lulu move as one towards the hideous beast, Orlok moving to flank it.

Lulu aims a brutal kick at it, 4 = miss and a punch, 17 = hit!, 2 damage whilst Orlok aims his sickle, natural 20, critical confirmation 11, no critical, 2 damage.

The beast seems badly injured and strikes out at Lulu desperately, bite 16, hit, 4 damage, claw 13, miss, claw 16 hit, damage 2.

The beast mauls Lulu severely resulting in a total of 6 damage to the halfling. (btw Ian, i've assumed you are using your dodge against this critter.)

Garren runs up the cellar stairs into the dull light of the forest.

Round 2

Lulu strikes out again, fist 9, miss and punch 2, miss. Orlok attacks, natural 20 (again! this is your luckiest of days Mr. badger!), confirmation roll, 20, hit for 7 damage. The beast collapses at your feet.

Now that the noise has receeded, Garren can return. However, the halfling and Orlok can hear noises from down the corridor.

Please feel free to describe your PCs actions and the battle to the IC thread.

Poop.  And here I was about to ask if I could trade out Dodge for either Quick Draw or Point Blank Shot. :deflated:

Also, I realised just before I went to bed last night that I should have concentrated my efforts into one blow and use Stunning Fist.  Ah, well, the cost of being a newbie.
