Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Quote from: beermotor;644235This was discussed extensively on the Goodman Games forums. There's nothing in the book that says when Luck can be burned, and the consensus opinion is people can burn Luck whenever. Some people allow for extra benefit if done before the roll. I've been running a table top game for a good long while now and it's never been a problem. The permanent burning loss mechanic more than compensates for the benefit of waiting till roll is done. If course, it's your game so you can do what you want... but I think you'll find if you force people to burn Luck before rolling they won't be as aggressive with it (preferring to save until absolutely necessary), which isn't "fun" IMNSHO.

Quote from: Tommy Brownell;644278Given that wording, I could see it being interpreted either way.

Personally, I would be fine with a standing rule of "burn whatever so you don't die".

Might would make it simpler, IMO.

Quote from: beermotor;644364Yeah, it's not a big deal, frankly. Death is sudden and frequent enough in this game, heh. It's not unbalancing or insanely powerful to let a character burn Luck after a roll to make a save or add to some damage or whatever... particularly at 0 level, when it doesn't regenerate for anyone. Even with Thieves/Halflings, it's not overpowered, in my experience.

My initial thoughts were that you'd lose the fun of gambling (is that 3 points of luck enough to make this role?) and that it was very much a do-over reroll type of affair, but thinking about it's subtly different. It makes things much more about 'pushing your luck'.

If as much luck as needed to survive gets burned it encourages play that earns more luck. Also, as tommy mentioned it makes things simpler in PbP.

However, peeps can still give me a default number of Lk they want to burn for  rolls with non-fatal results. In the meantime I'll work out if Watt and Bahib need to be lucky to survive.

Weru

It's actually a save to take half dam trap as it turns out. Anyway, Bhaib has burnt 1 point of luck and his current is now 14. Watt didn't need to burn any, both take 1 point of dam each. Watt is left with 1hp, Bahib with 3hp.

Weru

Beermotor do you want to burn any luck for Bahib's attempt to fathom the mysteries of the door, or just go for a raw roll?

Rahab, not Bahib. That one's mine...=)

Right. I really need to thin this heard out. So, tommy do you want to burn any luck for Rahab's attempt?

Yeah, Rahab is my girl. :-)

She won't burn any Luck on this. Either she gets it or she doesn't.

Weru

Okay, Bahib and Brynner; beermotor and Rehab. Got it.

Right to recap so far . . .

Thrul and Rahab have both examined the patterns of the stars and learnt nothing.

Bahib studied the door and found the star shaped crystals could be prissed out, but he and Watt learned it isn't healthy to touch them.

Arik learnt all there is to know about the stonework.

Weru

Quoteher background as a harlot hasn't really made her an expert on such subjects.

Right... but she's smart. Sort of.

I added her +1 bonus for INT to the roll, but was trying to hint that a character with a more applicable background skill set might get a trained (d20) roll as opposed to an untrained (d10) roll.

I think we have an elven sage and thats it, and he failed already... :-)

Only the Elven Candle maker examined the door. There was still an Elven sage and an Elven Scholar. Although at this stage I'm waiting for at least 50% of the party to die before I try and learn who is playing what. :D

Weru

So Thrul has a candle lit, who else lit something before the door opened?

Also, someone wrote

in their gear. if you're wondering what it is, it's the harness that goes over the horses head that the bit and reins are attached to.

That was me... yeah I know what it is :P
I was thinking an ostler was an innkeeper, hence it didn't make any sense to me, but it's apparently a stableperson. I'm guessing he's going to use it as a whip or something. Or maybe saddle up Rock.

Well Ostlers work the stables at Inns so there's possibly a lot of overlap or maybe an evolution of terms. Personally I was hoping you'd use it to make at least one attempt to mount a monster.

Right so is this about right for order in through the door: Rock, Rahab, Glum, Thurl, Watt?
