This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Okay, let's knock the dust off this place.

First off - Doc, you do know I was kidding, right? It must have been that I forgot "magnificent" in front of "bastard."

Second - wow.  Holy Fuck. Love the Map program. I'm a bit confused by the generator as it doesn't give me the kind of readout Ian showed (with the end of first term, etc.)  Do you guys remember what it was like when you first sw this game and dove in? Perhaps my wide-eyed nature will help you relive those moments a bit.  Just. Fucking. Wow.

Third - I want to play a loser (I know, it's a stretch); a guy who is never quite down and out, but always on the edge of being so. He moves not because he has to (like being chased or some such), but because it's time to move on and see if he can fuck up someplace else, that is if he can muster the energy to actually put in the effort. He's good at tinkering, smart even, but just doesn't bother applying himself - because that would require effort. He's not brooding, or sinister, etc.  He's just a guy who lives by the seat of his pants with as little effort as possible.

Is this best done as Rogue? Something else?

Sorry guys, but I'll need some guidance.  I appear to have just signed on for a lot of reading of Traveller history for the weekend...

Jim:

Select "verbose" on the right side check boxes to get the term-by-term readout.

Sounds like you are aiming for a Rogue, although being a loser isn't really restricted to a particular class. you can always find work moving cargo if nothing else.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Traveller! :)

Other* leaps to mind, too, though Rogue tends to impart better (if generally more violent) skills.  As far as losers and fuck-ups go, Werekoala is right, any career might do, though Merchant and Scout also seem like good candidates.

Welcome aboard, jim!

torin joined the scouts to see the galaxy.  he got his wish--but only along the x-boat lines of the trailing edge of the imperium.  seeing the high attrition rate in the service (and not the strongest guy to begin with) he decided not to re-enlist after his third term.  torin isn't the most sociable fellow, having spent so many years as a lonely x-boat pilot, or helping with the tenders.  he's decided to start his new life at kukelu, glad to be dirtside after so many years in space.

*i expect the ship to be impounded, needing repair, or otherwise unavailable unless otherwise noted by the ref.  maybe the ship's air/raft could still be available?

Werekoala

Okay, since one of you rolled for a ship (so far), let me offer the option; trade in the Type S and personal cash from each of you, to upgrade to a larger ship (this is a trick we us in my regular group; spend character points (in GURPS) and/or cash to upgrade a starting ship. How much cash? And for what kind of ship? I have no idea - just tossing it out there for now to see what you folks think before figuring it out). OR - keep the Type S and just be really good friends. ;) Not out of the realm of possibility, but dosn't make for much of a merchant/trader type ship.

No, I took serious offense to your comments, Mr Skach, and have declared on you an Internets Feud.

In other words, yeah, I knew.  We're cool, baby.

I dunno, man.  I was thinking of investing my 10,000 credits as a downpayment toward a piece of field artillery, or maybe a tac missile.

Potential. Whenever people talked about Ronnoc, they used the word potential.  Whether as a youngster discussing his future, or as an adult, what he had wasted. Ronnoc came to hate effort, and it showed. He has always drifted towards the things that came naturally, and kicked around doing whatever those natural tendencies allowed him to do to make a living.
