Title: Nobilis Play By Post
Post by: lastspartacus on August 19, 2009, 02:56:34 AM
Seeing if there is any interest on this forum for a Nobilis PBP game.
The system seems to me to actually work better as a PBP due to the complexity of the game world, i like the time to peruse, think, and write out some deep story and creativity in my characters actions and interactions with the game world.

Any who would be interested as an HG or Power?
Perhaps a crazy story concept.

I made a half-hearted attempt to launch a game like that on this board, oh, a few years ago, but Nobilis PbPs notoriously tend to dwindle out even more rapidly than forum play usually does. It's worked out well enough over IRC before, though. Did you happen to have some specific campaign idea in mind?

Nothing Particular but a bunch of ideas.  I had good success on a small forum with a PbP that lasted for 36 thread pages until the HG had to out of country and lost net access.  There were a few periods of player apathy by two of those playing but otherwise i found it extremely great story telling, and I've seen other net examples that stretched over a hundred pages 0.o

The answer to a game like Nobilis is, from my experience, you really can't ususally just grab the casual gamer and have them play along and grasp the system, The uniqueness of the game aint for everyone by a long shot.

I dont know if id be the HG or if someone else would, I just love the game and would love to be part of something with it again.
I think the solution this time around would be to be a bit more picky about who played the game, serious players who cared about the story and setting and loved their characters and wanted a great time of it, who know how to spin a good yarn and be creative, and aren't out to simply play a demigod and blow shit up.

I was an aspect 5 nobilis of masculinity, and I chose not to use my raw combat abilities except for once in the game I was in, and didn't whine when i got badly damaged, just used it as character development.  Restraint is rewarding, I think most players fizzle out of interest once they pop off some big dramatic domain miracles and then tire once thats all they can think to do with it.
