Hey Everyone,
I was thinking of running a 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game (most likely arround the just released freebie adventure Kyber's Harvest) And I thought I would check here for interest in such a thing.
System=> 4th Edition Dnd
Setting=> Eberron, but not terribly strict about it
Place=> Here, Play by post
Frequency=> Shooting for a Post a weekday
Players/Characters=> If I could get 5 players using either one of the pregens provided or another appropriate level 2 character (Phb 1,2 and Eberron Players guide only please) that would be ideal
Style=> Tyranny of Fun :D
If your interested leave a post, I would only be signing up for the first adventure but if people are decent and willing to continue as I see no reason atm not to.
Sure, I'd give it a shot. I would like to try out the 4e Eberron stuff. I have the Character Builder, so I would like build my own character. Are you using the Standard Array? What would be the starting money for 2nd level?
that would be 16,14,13,12,11,10 for the stats.
and if you use the builder please make sure to turn off stray sources (just phb1,2 and Eberron Players Guide)
otherwise, a level 1, 2, and 3 item as well as gold equal the price of a level 1 item.
Lets just hope we get some more takers...
Sure, sign me up. I've read the books (mostly) and played 3 RPGA modules, I guess that qualifies me as an expert by now. ;)

Warforged Racial Traits
Living Construct: You are a living construct. You do not need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep. You never make Endurance checks to resist the effect of starvation, thirst, or suffocation. All other conditions and effects affect you normally.
Unsleeping Watcher: You do not sleep and instead enter a state of inactivity for 4 hours to gain the benefits of an extended rest. While in this state, you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Warforged Resilience: You have a +2 racial bonus to saving throws against ongoing damage. Also, when you make a death saving throw, you can take the better result of your die roll or 10.
Warforged Mind: You have a +1 racial bonus to your Will.
Warforged Resolve: You have the warforged resolve power.
Warforged Resolve (Warforged Racial Power)
Encounter * Healing
Minor Action * Personal
Effect: You gain a number of temporary hit points equal to 3 + one-half your level. You may make an immediate saving throw against one effect that inflicts ongoing damage and can be ended with a save. In addition, if you are bloodied you regain hit points equal to 3 + one half your level.
*sigh*
Darn it, I was looking forward to trying out a warforged character and the warden class.
You're missing people or something? I could join if you guys want.
Quote from: Benoist;315092You're missing people or something? I could join if you guys want.
Yeah!
That puts us at 3 players, and if people are willing to play with that many I'm willing to run with that many.
Now the question is =>
Last time I had 3 players, I got everyone to run 2 character but this was in RL, so
Do you guys want to run 1 or 2 characters each (if 1 each I can adjust the encounters as appropiate dont worry).
Either way, lets see what everyone wants to roll and maybe we can actually start gaming before august.
I'm cool with just three PCs, and I'd rather not play two PCs. I'm cool with either adjusting the encounters or adding NPCs.
One PC each please. Let's not make this any more like a wargame than it already will be. ;)
I'm going with my pals. One PC each will be just fine!
Drohem: I don't know what a Warden does, exactly. Am I right in assuming this is some sort of dwarven defender/tank of some type?
What do you want to play, Koala?
Group synergy's going to be paramount, if I understand the coop aspect of 4e correctly. I'm flexible on my character choice, so that's why I ask what you guys are playing.
Yeah, a Warden is a Defender and is like a tank that's in touch with Nature who can take on beastial or treelike aspects.
I myself hate NPC hangers so that probably wont be happening. its easy enough to adjust the encounters downward.
That said I would probably encourage a striker and leader, control is nice but decidedly underwhelming in places. That said the synergy I find really has to come from the players and not what they are playing. You can have all the synergy in the world but if you don't use it, its not going to help you.
That said, if someone else is interested, by all means hop on the wagon we got some space. Otherwise I look forward to finding out about your characters. If you have any questions about character creation besure to post them.
Werekoala and Benoist, what race/class characters are you thinking about?
Well, the only character I played so far was a halfling ... warlock? Worceror? One of those. Kinda neat, but I think I'll fall back to either a fighter or maybe a cleric this time out. As to race - hell, I don't know - too many to choose from! I'll have to hop on the character creator tonight at home and see what I can come up with.
If Werekoala's going for a Cleric, and you're going for a Warden (so some type of fighter, a Defender), I'm going to go for a striker. A Rogue?
As for the race, I don't know.
Well, for only three characters I think that it's a good team- Leader (Cleric), Defender (Warden), and Striker (Rogue).
its a balanced Team.
I kinda want to run a game sometime that is all ranger all the time (and maybe a sorcerer who thinks he is a ranger) just to see if we could do it.
Either way it sounds likes its coming together. I look forward to hearing about your characters soon.

If everyone can make sure that they have the appropiate racial stuff written down somewhere (for dwarves its a handful of always on power and for the halfing its a racial power I think)
other than that they look pretty good.
One last thing before we start playing, how did people want to be organized assocatied. I figured that we could pick a reason for everyone to be working together to begin with rather than going threw a long storming and norming period at the begining. However if you guys want to , I have a tavern in mind...
Some Ideas
A=> This is a Favour to a common Associate/Mentor of everyone
B=> You are subcontractors of House Tharashke, hired for your winning reputation (needing to protect their mining operations nearby)
C=> You are independant but friendly prospectors hoping to get rich off dragonshards (a precious magic gemstone)
D=> Your bound by Religion, Creed or Country (take your pick, maybe your all silver flame zeolots or Cyre survivors, etc
Option A or Option B would be my first choices, then Option C followed by Option D.
I like the Survivors of Cyre idea in particular of option D (the idea that we all know each other from the Great War, a bit like in the Battle of Serenity valley for Firefly's crew, seems cool to me - maybe we could have formed a band of mercenaries with no lord, no master, since our nation is destroyed, and then get hired for our winning looks by this NPC or that House?).
Otherwise, Option B, C and A lastly.
Quote from: Benoist;315556I like the Survivors of Cyre idea in particular of option D (the idea that we all know each other from the Great War, a bit like in the Battle of Serenity valley for Firefly's crew, seems cool to me - maybe we could have formed a band of mercenaries with no lord, no master, since our nation is destroyed, and then get hired for our winning looks by this NPC or that House?).
Alright, that sounds pretty darn cool- I'm down with that!
I know zip about Eberron, so this Cyre thing works for me too! :)
Okay short story of the last war,
Once their was a big contientent spanning nation that was the height of human achievement (sound familure) that was called Galifar (not Galifrey ooo wee ooo).
104 years ago the current king died early when all the princes (who each ruled a big province as preparation for kinghood) where still in a dickish age, and they went to war with each other.
The war started 104 years ago and ended 100 years ago. It was brutal with both Golem Armies (warforged) and Undead Armies (Karnathi Undead) being raised, lots of land and achievements being sabotagued and generally the quality of life being lowered.
It ended when the magic equivalent of a super nuke hit Cyre. Cyre was literally called 'the crown jewel of Galifar' and was the center of both magic and cultural advancement. Cyre in one fell swoop was converted into a radiactive monster spawning pit of oblivion that is still more or less instant death for those who enter. (if you watched the movie, 'The Mist' the same style of thing happened here, A dead grey mist envolped cyre and thats the end of that.
that cause everyone else to pony up to the peace table with the main powers left (breland a sort of proto america) and Karrnath (a sort of proto russia known for undead armies) both pursueing peace.
So Cyrians, those who are still alive (think 1000's) both have huge survivor guilt, a rational incentive to work with every other cyran (closest thing to home your ever going to get) and a big chip on your sholder (someone did this to cyre).
If you guys want to all play cyran's who have banded together since then and now do odd jobs due to your awesomeness sounds good.
Unless someone has an object I will be making the first IC post sometime soon. Do they tend to use a seperate IC thread here or should I just post it here?
Quote from: Logos7;315624Do they tend to use a seperate IC thread here or should I just post it here?
Yeah, I'd go ahead and make a separate IC thread, and we can just use this thread as the OOC thread.
Pretty cool. Sounds good to me!
I think Hamrick is a cynical dude. It's kinda weird for a Halfling. I'm curious to see how the character will turn out in play.
Ok, corrected my stats and got the magice itesm as well - how's this?

Looking good! So, we are a trio of grim Cyrian expatriates. Only four years has passed since we lost our beloved homeland and nation of Cyre.
Let's roll!
okay, intro is up, which can take as little or as long as you guys want.
http://www.therpgsite.com/showthread.php?p=315753#post315753
enjoy.
Hmm I surpose we gotta solve a few things before we actually get to the ass kicking.
First how do you guys want to handle dice? Quite Frankly I trust you guys, so if everyone just wants to roll their plastic marbles at home that is fine with me.
If that's not cool with everyone May I suggest
http://www.catchyourhare.com/diceroller/ password Kyber
if you got it working, you should see a hi spelt out in blue dice
Its a dice roller with a tag feature that I think would work pretty snazzy, That said It doesn't enforce security or allow rolls to be checked or anything like that.
Last option and most cheat proof would probably be Invisible Castle or another place that allows dice rolls to be verified.
So tell me what you think on that front.
The Second issue is the battlemap.
I personally hate them for PBP (its a lot alota work for not much payoff in PBP i think). If everyone is willing to work with me and a range scale and just being descriptive, I think it could work and if things go Tits up we can then pull out the map.
If people really want however, I can do maps easier than normal due to the PDF I'm using having decent maps.
So tell me what you think on that front.
See and that's the reason why I have a pre encounter, because it just occurred to me that I may need dice for a dice based roleplaying game...
I'm fine with the plastic rolling at home. I trust everyone.
It's going to be interesting to play without mat. We've had some debates here on how this would work out for 4e. So I'm more than willing to give it a shot.
Personally, I'll be using Invisible Castle for my dice rolls. I cool with whatever everyone else does for their dice rolls. :)
Since 4e D&D is so positional and map orientated it would nice to see a map now and again; although it's not entirely necessary for one every round. But again, I am cool with however you or the others want to handle it. It's possible to do it without maps entirely- just be prepared to be peppered with questions. :p

Hehehe... I was in AM's experiment here where he ran several 4e D&D encounters without a map. It worked and it's possible, but, in all honestly, I would like to see at least a map of the initial positions of all the combatants for my own frame of reference.
BTW, my dwarf fighter in that game was named Fargrim, LOL.
"Random" name generator for the win! :)
My Fargrim will be far cooler, anyway.
Quote from: Werekoala;315837"Random" name generator for the win! :)

LOL Show off.
I'm cool, let's roll on with the adventure! :)
Agreed, nothing else I wish to contribute at this time.
Hey everyone,
I edit my last post to avoid double posting, so go check the IC thread.
Is their a way to do a spoiler blockon these forums . I quoted out the 'spoilt' text and I dont really care if everyone reads it so I guess that will have to do for now.
Apparently you guys are getting another sidequest thrown at you. If you dont want to take it, just stay in the room. Either way I hope my prose is not too purple for you. I'm just trying to convey the sense of awesome that is eberron. If it is too purple let me know and I will try to trim it down.
LOL I like the group dynamics.
How do you roll init in 4e again?
I can't remember and don't have the books with me at the moment.
Quote from: Benoist;318722How do you roll init in 4e again?
It's your DEX modifier + 1/2 level
Thanks!
hey guys,
I got an email thingy from Tevlin Mistwalker, looking to see if we wanted another guy in our game, and considering its already been going for a few pages and such, I thought I would ask you guys what you thought of it before taking any direction on the matter.
so let me know...
That's no problem for me. The more, the merrier!
Quote from: Benoist;319369That's no problem for me. The more, the merrier!
Ditto! :)
Wanted to say thank you to everyone for letting me join the game a bit late. I have been gaming since the very first edition of AD&d and have played every one in between. Look forward to adventuring with each of you!
so atm we have a dwarvish cleric (leader) a Warforged warden (defender) and a halfling rogue (striker)
Controller would be the obvious choice for balance, althought it is also the easiest role, I find, to go without and double something else up.
So ultimately its up to you.
Hey Tevlin, the introduction its for you, get to it.
Hey Guys, Its been a couple of days, Everyone still here. I know its a little awkward waiting on a guy to introduce himself but still.
l
I'm cool with bringing a new person, but where the hell is he? LOL
I've been sick the better part of a week myself, so sorry if I've fallen behind a bit.
Yeah a little bit. No one was really posting, so whats going to happen is that I am going to post tomarrow night sometime.
If tevlin has not posted by then, I'm gonna kick you. (I'm asking for a post a weekday, and while the last week has not been exemplary, Its the exception not the rule, and new guy should be all up on the rule if you know what i mean)
As I'm sure there is some good real life reasons going on here (as you guys have been really awesome about posting until now) I will be moving scene tomarrow night sometime. So if you have anything to say, get it said.
Hope that is satisfactory for everyone.
L
Alright by me.
Okay tevlin, its officailly too late.
If you want to try again, you can try again after this (short) adventure is finished.
Hope it's okay if I just roll stuff as I declare my actions and include the results! I'm not trying to bully the DM into giving clues or anything like that. Saves some time, in case you were going to ask for a roll. I just include it in case it's relevant. :)
I have no problem with it, At worst I will ignore it and at best it does save some back and forth.
Cool. :)
Okay guys. Gotta go on a road trip for the next two days. I'll be back shortly!
Very cool the war picture detail, and Clash's actions with it. :)
heheheh...sorry, I got a little William Munny there, but he was moved by the picture. *shrug*
Just a note to explain I'm not posting to let Logos post an answer specific to Werekoala's actions. Me and Drohem had a free turn, so WK should catch up before we move on, IMO. I wouldn't wait otherwise, but it does matter in combat. :)
Kewl I was kinda waiting for everyone to get a responce in, but I will hit up WereK's action and then top of the rounds again.
I think I may have let you guys off too easy in this encounter, but we will see.
Logos7, where'd you go? :)
Hey Everyone,
Sorry about the delay, new work / internet issues have delayed me but no more.
The Cultist is currently fleeing, If you want to do something besides shout at him, post it in character, I will be ending/advancing the main thread tomarrow so that everyone has a chance to get back / not be disadvantaged by my absence.
Go Team !

Right on, glad you're back! :)
Clash has already taken his Opportunity Attack on the fleeing cultist. It's up to Hamrick and Fargrim to stop him in his tracks, or we give chase.
Cool! Glad your back L7!
As far as the game goes, I think Hamrick's going to wait and see of the cultist stops. If he doesn't, the chase is on!
Logos, I sent a couple of PM's to you. I didn't get a response. I was inquiring if I could join the game. I set up a story on how you could incorporate my character (up for your approval of course) and sent my character to you.
Hey Pclaw,
Sorry for not responding, but I thought it was clear that i was not interested in more pc's at this point in time, especially after the fiasco with the other guy. None the less this is a short module so if something happens after wards, I'll keep you in mind, but short story, I'm not looking for more players atm.
ok, thanks
hey guys you still there,
its been like a week, and I only have 2 responces to my last post, one of which needs to be rethought.
Just a page to see how things are going or if I am holding things up needlessly here.
I don't know what's happened to Werekoala, but Benoist and I are ready. My post was edited the same day, several hours later.
So you did, my apologies.
As for Werekoala, yeah this is not so great. Where are you dude? I think im going to post an action or two for you and see if we can get you at the next round of combat?
Anyway thanks for your quick replies, sorry i didn't notice your edit...
L
We're cool. :) Let's kick this puppy back in gear!
Logo7,
Can you pick up Fargrim as an NPC? Or possibly find a replacement player like that guy that was interested in the game?
I mean that I'm still down for the game. :)
Benny, you still down too?
Something came up, and I probably won't be online as often as I was for the next few days, but I'm here, yes. :)
