This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

This is just an interest check. I saw on google groups one time an idea that sounded really cool.... that instead of a classic PbP RPG using the Stars without number System...that every player plays as a faction and Posts Their Faction turn. It would go something like this...

1. Players Creates their faction using the Faction turn guidelines in the Free/Core Edition of SWN.

2. A GM can either control a number of 3rd party Factions that interact with all players or instead of a GM we can just all agree as a committee/majority if there is a question on the rulings.

3. We'll number the list alphabetically and will Randomly roll who starts at the beginning of each new turn just like the rules allow for.

4. At the beginning of your turn you announce your income for that turn, Your actions, The roll results, and any thing else your faction is doing that turn. Results are recorded and *optional... some Fiction is written by the players of what happened . So there's a creative writing element happening as well...

5. If a faction is destroyed, you can either quit the game or roll a New faction, but as a penalty would have to start over fresh/new.

6. We can use a Wiki or something that can keep a running tally of all assets /asset location and current hp / fac creds /Income etc. for all factions edited by the GM. ( I'm beginning to see a good reason why a neutral GM would come in handy... and if theres 2-3 NPC factions then that adds an interesting element to the game to allow for some PVE as well as PVP)

A couple things come to mind...

The game would be PvP by nature...so we would have to agree on one dice program that all players can objectively view and use... Rolz.org has a "Dice Room" that you simply log in as a nickname ( your factions name) and it keeps track of a log... thats a suggestion...but this can be a topic of discussion...

Since a defense roll is required for every attack we can agree on a situation that the attacker rolls for both as long as he's using the objective program that everyone can see...ie. Player A Attacks Player F - There's 4 other turns before player F takes his turn therefore player A rolls his Attack roll as well as player F's Defense roll and Counter Attack roll if the unit he's attacking has one. For conformity... Attacker's Roll ALWAYS happens first so theres no questions and Defenders Roll ALways happens 2nd followed by defender's counter attack. Rolz.org has a chat message that can be used and logged as well so that a small chat message could be typed to denote exactly what's being rolled.

I realize if you're completely unfamiliar with the SWN system you probably have no idea what I'm talking about...but the game does have a Free edition on Drive thru rpg and all the faction rules are included in that if you wanna pop over and take a look... I have the hard cover Core edition I'm using and Factions start on page 112, so it would be somewhere in that area if you wanna glance over the rules.

The fiction part could be really fun about what happens in the story...if anyone wants to volunteer as a GM ...or the GM can GM.... and we can do some "One shots" with the actual SWN system to develop the story a little more .. You as a faction could have Cyberninjas as an asset and roll a PC who is the leader/seargent of your Cyberninjas.... So you as a Faction are controlling a number of PC's as well that we could have a lot of fun with... It's a little overwhelming thinking about all this...but it could be a lot of fun....

A little bit about me.. (Some of you may be noticing the low post count) I've played in about 3 PbP games but have only GM'd one, though I'm pretty familiar with the SWN system I've created from scratch about 5 different sectors full with factions just for fun... and the deep hope that somebody in my family will play with me...but no one ever does... My wife Hates RPG's hahhahah lol, but alas here we are....I'm not opposed to being the GM for this above mentioned idea unless someone with more experience wants to tackle it thats more than fine with me playing as just a faction....

TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS....

Heres a link to a GM that webcasts his Faction turn -
