This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Meet your first NPC/PC! 'Gully', the painfully sincere cleric who has been on a mission to bring civilization! to this land, unsuccessfully... for years.

Gillibrecht 'Gully' Waldhauser
Woodshaper, Bowyer/Fletcher, Carpenter (1st lvl Cleric)
Alignment: Law.

Strength: 8
Intelligence: 13
Wisdom: 17  (+10% exp)
Constitution: 12 (60-90%)
Dexterity: 9
Charisma: 6 (-1 base loyalty. max 2 hirelings.)

HP: 6
AC: 9 (TBA from business costs)
Speed: 12"
Encumbrance: 0
Gold: TBA from business costs (original 120)
Languages: Common, Law, +3 more.

Equipment:
- Woodshaper Shack, business, Grants Hold (???g I'm willing to throw all 120g in)
SELLS: arrow dowels, spear/javelin hafts, ax/shovel/pick/saw handles, finished staves & clubs. Also boxes, stools, & 10' poles! Custom engraving by request.

Appearance: Towhead blonde hair in a Prince Valiant cut, piercing blue eyes, and leathering skin. Seems in/tense. Going soft in age (15 lbs) and resents it.
Age: 43
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 147 lbs.

Description: Felt called to this land years before and finally feels justified after the King's new decree. Almost vibrates with excitement at this new prospect of bringing civilization here. Earnest and devout to a fault, feels called to support adventurers into settled family life after hard labor from taming the wilderness. Slips into proselytizing about bucolic pastoral scenes. Helps maintain a town chapel and assists the barber in healing. His driven energetic nature grates on the locals; he's useful, yet meddling and annoying.

Just make your fuckin' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what's interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it's more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

The way I handle elves is this; you fight as a F-U and cast as an M-U. Experience is distributed evenly to both of your classes, at higher levels you may use whichever class has the best saves for a relevant situation.

So... an Elf begins play as a 1/1 veteran/medium and needs to accumulate 4,000 XP to become a 2/1 warrior/medium?
Can a veteran/medium act as a M-U while wearing non-magical armor?

Why do we all have different speed lengths? Which (free) OSR text best emulates this OD&D experience?

Hey, that's useful! Thanks! :)

Uh-oh, I selected the "gain 10% XP" class due to my stats... Well, shit. Oh well, he'll have resposibilities arming the newcomers and defending the town from raids.
