Title: IC: Talislanta Sword & Planet Disco Fantasia!
Post by: Opaopajr on July 27, 2020, 01:09:23 AM
It's gonna begin! Run for your lives!

Deposit your simplified PC here.

Older recruiting topic will now double as an OOC (Out-Of-Character) Topic.

We will be starting in the Wilderlands by the town of Akmir. I am also starting the party off with a Salt Flats Catamaran Racer (just in case someone wants to emulate Mad Max or a Duran Duran video). Further, it has a jukebox with a band of tiny imps forced to play music, where slain enemies may drop new collectible soul records for the juke's catalog (and yes, songs replays by PCs'll cost lumen, :p). Gonna do a 'Lawrence of Arabia' long shot with the Salt Flats Catamaran pulling into the Akbir Depot while mysterious strangers have their robes billow dramatically as the music builds & swells.

Feel free to mention in the old topic where you wanna start: On Catamaran or Akbir Depot.

HELIOS

THAECIAN ENCHANTER
SIZE: 6'6", 160 lbs.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Silvery skin, deep blue hair, distinctive features, slender physique.
PERSONA: great at parties, bad at holding his tongue, utterly naive of how the world works outside of the fantasy of court nobles and magical decadence
ATTRIBUTES: INT +3, CHA +3, PER +3, SPD +2
MAGIC RATING: +3
HIT POINTS: 10
SPECIAL ABILITIES: None
SKILLS: Secondary magic, magical operations, concoct potions, artificer, brewer/vintner (Thaecian nectar), enchant items, inscribe spells.
LANGUAGES: Thaecian, High Talisian, Bodorian, Nomadic (recently learned), Read Archaen
EQUIPMENT/POSSESSIONS: Diaphanous gossamer robes, gossamer purse and shoulder pouch, silver bound spell book, 2
amber crystal vials (potions) and spheres (Thaecian orbs), flask of Thaecian nectar.
WEALTH: 1000 gold lumens in mixed coins and/or gemstones (100 coins, 18 gems worth 50 lumens each).
COMMENTS: Thaecians are devout pleasure-seekers who shun hard work in favor of more pleasant pastimes. They are enamored
of magic, and are partial to Thaecian nectar, a drink noted for its exotic flavor and exhilarating properties.

HELIOS was a wealthy and connected hanger-on to the Thaecian court who got bored by the "safe" decadence of the noble's party scene. After a night of too much nectar, he let his inner thoughts fly free and upon sobering, decided swift departure was the right move, and many months later, after a "disastrous caravan disaster", he's wandered into Akbir.

Helios shall begin at the Depot...with the stunning realization he's unarmed, unarmored, without any scrolls or enchantments.

3rd day, 2 week, 4th month
Near Prime Sun Noon, (Second Sun Horizonal)

BGM Boomerang -- "Na Zapadu Nista Novo" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQC5T27nRa8

Edge of The Barrens, Nearing Akmir

Salt Racer Catamaran

The home stretch under a blistering heat. Akmir rises fron the flat plane as a dusky dot, a blot, upon the near formless expanse that was beginning to wear on one's sanity. In agonizing time the dot oblates and then becomes recognizable as dot clusters... you have some time before reaching the Akbir Depot. Time to just be before dropping off passengers & cargo, grabbing supplies, recruiting new crew, to be beyond the usual bustling madness of tedious maintenance.

The stories of "The Magical West" got stale the first few days in the first voyages of the first year; they are insipid now. Soft, safe, self-absorbed... almost bloodless in their lack of vitality. At least there is a rush of lust, of violence, with these Wilderlands. Just pushing through this heat at these many clicks a minute is enough to leave these passengers quieted, let alone terrors of bandits racing to intercept you, or nightmares of marauding devils screaming in the night.

Time to replace lost crew friends and drop off wealthy dead-weight...

Rumor: Apparently a Bandit Gang, 'Screamers to the Purple Sun', is teetering upon collapse somewhere in the Western Barrens. Maybe another boat can be stolen for the flotilla.

Rumor: The Salt Devils are said to have some of the sweetest soul music. The permorming imps nod, but shiver at the thought, demons often being food for rampaging devils.

----------------

Akmir

Akbir Depot (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Only three of the seven wind engines along the wall's edge near the shady hangar's ceiling are working, and as lazily as the exhausted beings within. Stillness in this twilight offers meager relief as the bustle of caravans outside disturbs the edge of haziness like mourners at a sepulture. A timelessness soaks the mind in stupor where just sauntering is an excess.

Even the festooned luggage dancers listlessly plod along raised oval tracks, more bleating than cooing their luggage's desire to be retrieved by their owners:
"Am I yours?"
"Take me away with you."
"How can you leave without me?"
And when owners retrieve their luggage from these dancers the exchange carries the finality of a burden.

A bar reeking of medjool pickling rum holds melted patrons draping over pillows and saddle-seats, reminiscent of the bar's snack shelf of vaguely placeable meat pickles. Rajan tabac in the hookas is recognized more by the lingering smoke skulls and misshapen faces undispersed by the quiescent air than its musky sulfured spice.

The chattel staffing agency is offering Zaran prisoners as battle-chum at fire sale prices.

Karfan Departures has a few strangely dressed Westerners wearing more than a few stylish Wilderland souvenirs. Maybe they made out well and have info to share?

Rumor: City of Muruk has new curse-breakers (idiots) requesting a topaz boulder from the Topaz Mts. Apparently more than a few boulders passed through Akmir onto The Barrens in the past year.

Rumor: Eastern Borderlands hills has a hidden Mongrelmen hamlet ripe for the picking. Some arenas and wizards are offerering double the typical chattel price.

Helios loves a good deal. Fire sale on Zaran battle chum? Who can resist? War slaves, especially when charmed and motivated, are far better than learning how to actually fight. At least, that's what mother always said.

Helios makes his through the way the sulfur smoke to discuss prices with the chattel agents. However, he's never had medjool pickling rum so perhaps there will be a detour to the bar if the smell becomes more nectar-ish upon approach.

Although not a merchant, Helios has faith (or is it overconfidence) in his potent trifecta of brains, perception and charisma.

Greetings!

Ghandus visits any nearby taverns, and enjoys some cold drinks. Ghandus invites newly found companions to enjoy a cold drink and have a look around Akbir. Ghandus also inquires about the prices for Zandar slaves. In addition, while at the tavern, Ghandus asks other patrons about the rumours concerning the Mongrelmen.

At the Chattel Staffing Agency you hear these Zaran prisoners are willful and don't take direction, but they fight as if rabid and scream most pleasingly as they die. A lumen a soul and don't bother with feeding them plant-food rations; they won't eat it.

(OOC: The catamaran could use at least 3 ablative warriors, though you can easily cram up to 20 if you are interested in pirating and don't mind a little starvation keeping them hungry for plunder. Catamaran minimum crew is 2, max 25; Cargo is 10 tons. Food & water does add up and slow you down. ... Long story short math is hard and I have fond memories of playing "Uncharted Waters" by KOEI. :p)

There is a general surliness among these Zaran chattel applicants. They also look malnourished and several have a similar scar pattern on their left upper arm. Probably a Zaran-on-Zaran feud sold these associated losers upon victory.

Ooh, there is a Zaran female dressed in dancer robes being tucked away in the back! :eek: Doesn't seem to be part of the fire sale though... :(

After having met Ghandas, Tadius agrees to cold round thinking it to be an absolutely capital idea, given the dust and heat. While standing idly by as Ghandas peruses the Zaran merchandise somewhat disinterestedly.  His interest is piqued when he spies the Zaran dancer in the back and decides to attempt a closer look.  You know.  For science and stuff.

Nice eye there, my friend..." as a languid Chattel Agent makes introductions to Ghandas, "would let you get closer if she was on the market, but alas she went for several fistfuls of True Lumen before we even received her. Hadjin noble of course, you can never really outbid them. Seems like a natural way to thin out the harem's politics, getting so bloodthirsty a new pet."

A din outside rustles the calm indoors. "Ooh, the Djaffiri seemed to have stampeded a new herd of land lizards near the Akmiri Stableyards. Maybe a few more will be caught this time." The Chattel Agent tries to angle a better view through the broad hangar doors leaving the Zaran female tantalizingly close...

A carpet with a Rahastran reading Zodar to another bar patron erupts as the bar patron exclaims, "This is the omen of my doom you just foretold! Away, accurséd seer!" He runs off outside as the Rahastran tries to grab him and explain the patron's error, but off he runs towards the stampede outside... in time an agonizing scream is heard.

The bartender sighs & rolls his eyes during the tumult, "Your pick of poison, gents? Dracartan Pyramids favored, but conversion is but a Moneychanger booth that way, at good rates too because By the Two Suns Akmir needs money."

She is in the typical curled-toe slippers and full sleeved robe of Hadjan finery, with a twist. Both her shoe and robe fabric are made of a semi-transparent and metallic weave amid the twill, where in different angles the fabric becomes see-through and shimmers as if the flesh is behind a gilded cage. Its effect tends to occur around taut areas as her shapeliness strains against the otherwise formless Hadjan robe.

Her left hip sports a similar scar as the discounted Zaran chattel-warriors. Her bald head is decorated in painted flowers with curlicues. She looks miserable, as if waiting for an opportunity to kill everyone.

Helios stands behind the Zandir and Thrall, listening and thinking. Hmm...a magician and a mountain of muscle, could be valuable for maintaining a dozen troublesome battle slaves. I wonder if they own the catamaran?

Waiting for a lull in their conversation, Helios steps up and introduces himself in the Thaecian fashion. "Fondest greetings new acquaintances of the continent. I am Helios, enchanter of wine from the inestimable courts of gorgeous Thaecia. I also see the value in the Zarans. Would it please you to tell me of your catamaran and to where it travels next? Perhaps if our acquaintance continues, I will capitalize the purchase of a dozen charming slaves as my contribution to further travels."

"Or should I say, easily charm-able slaves."

Amara had traveled far and wide to reach the destination, and after making sure her things were secured, the Danuvian warrior entered the barroom. Amara was quiet for the entirety of the trip, unusually so. But that's because the six-and-a-half foot tall Amazon wanted to keep her head down as much as possible before arriving.

Walking into the tavern a little bit later than everyone else, she sits at the bar and orders a drink, eyeing her surroundings to see if she sees anyone or anything of interest

Obviously luxuriating in a rolled-eyes into baleful glare at you gawkers, especially as the Chattel Staffing Agent is occupied guffawing at the latest land lizard round-up outside, the Zaran concubine-to-be hisses, "Invaders should be skinned!" Then follows a smile promising pain underneath the glare, "But honor to their strongest, who shall be slain last." The tumult is ebbing, this opportunity fleeting... you all nearby know instinctively you'll be in a world of shit if you enable this further. ;)

Some of the bar's lingering smoke-skull-rings seem laughing, the fucking bastards.

Ghandus reaches out to Tadius, gripping him firmly by the shoulders, growling low into his ear--"Get the Zaran woman your dagger!"

Ghandus, smiling hugely, then dramatically reaches back and punches Tadius across the face, *conveniently* guiding him towards the Zaran slave woman. Ghandus shouts at him, "Thralls are the best warriors!"

Not really expecting a punch to the jaw, Tadius reels for a second or two collecting his wits and taking a mental inventory of his teeth.   He fumbles for one of his daggers, sincerely considering having a go at Ghandus on general principal.  However, the Thrall's over-large tattooed muscles convince him otherwise.  Holding the dagger out before him, Tadius (in as fierce a voice as he can manage while in considerable pain) shouts, "Well that's about all you meatheads are good for!  Dying in a pool of your own blood!"

Tadius then feigns a lunge at Ghandus fully expecting another round of bruising.  Assuming Ghandus doesn't knock him out cold, Tadius intends to "fumble" his blade at the Zaran dancer's feet.

Glancing over to see the fight breaking out, Amara stands up and draws her sword. Jumping into the fray, the tall imposing Danuvian shouts out into the crowd...

"Who the fuck are you guys and why the fuck are you fighting?" and pointing her blade at the Zaran thrall, Amara shouts once more...

"You know we're living in a society! We're supposed to act in a civilized way...ah fuck it. Let us fight!" and glancing at the one known as Ghandus, the green-haired Danuvian says "If it gets too thick, I got your back on this one. I'll help you and you can help me."

Having been too quiet and reserved for too long, Amara decides to finally fight and test her mettle. Even if she is not interested in the issue the two are disputing, Amara wants to go and prove her strength and combat prowess to everyone in sight.

BGM: Alicia Bridges, "I Love the Nightlife" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu2NzXb4x1s

An opportune distraction seized!

For those watching the Zaran concubine-to-be closely you see a rapid scooping up of Tadius' dagger, a cutting of her own palm, and a concentrated look at the linked black-iron chain that holds the discounted Zaran chattel staff's ankle manacles to one of the agency's anchor blocks.

The chain to the anchor breaks in several links along the Zaran chattel's anklets, who then work quickly threading out and wielding what shortened chains they now have as weaponry. They proceed to seek more weaponry and vengeance, and there is some gesturing about the outside and reins to mounts... Much violence shall now ensue. :D

The Zaran woman's chest heaves, revealing fully a nice grapefruit pair under a taut golden net, before the fabric becomes opaque again as she collapses in a faint, dropping Tadius' dagger. What a start to a show!

The smoke-skull-rings dissipate in a final guffaw.

Helios stands stunned...who are these INSANE people??? What have I gotten myself into NOW???

Time for some defensive magic.

Helios takes a deep breath, recites the ancient mantras to call upon a Conjuration. [at 1st level, he can create 1 cubic foot of inanimate object(s)] Helios concentrates and envisions a stacks of a 1000 very shiny (though inherently worthless) coins appearing high above the bar area. The rain of metal bits and exploding glass should provide the distraction he needs to escape.

Seeing the fight unfold the witch pretty much kept out of it for a number of reasons.  One being that she isn't adding any more scars to her pretty face.  The second is that it allowed her to get a good view of everything.  She witness the thrall take slave concubine out of the place and Helios casting a spell.  A fellow sorcerer would be nice to tag along and so she walk up to him and tapped his shoulder.

What that mage should see is one of the most beautiful women in his life who is dressed in wolf furs.  Right down to the boots.  Olive skin, jet black hair much like a raven, and a scar to show she had been in a fight.

"Hey magic man.  Do you want to bounce out of here?"

OOC: Yes, Opa, Ghandus will carry the Zaran slave girl to the Sand Ship. Setting her down firmly, Ghandus looks her over, making sure she is doing ok. Gazing about for the Danuian, Tadius, and others.

Ghandus roars, "Tadius! Friends! TO ME!"
Ghandus offers the Zaran woman a drink from his shark-head waterskin. "Here. Have something to drink. What is your name, woman? I am Ghandus."

Staying close to her, Ghandus evaluates any nearby dangers. If close combat seems likely, Ghandus keeps his greatword ready. Otherwise, Ghandus pulls out his horn bow, and opens his quiver. Ghandus watches also for any straggling companions, possibly being followed by guards or other enemies.

(OOC: Normally I'd like to do declarations & rounds so I can not be tempted into metagaming fore-knowledge of my PCs' shenanigans and to keep everyone sychopated. :D But PlayByPost (hereon: PbP) is a challenging game medium and I just LOVE enthusiasm! It keeps the spirit flowing.

From here on out I want everyone to try to give time for everyone to reply within... 72 hr (3 day) arc per round (need to look up Talislanta's round lengths... crosses finger, hoping it is minute rounds), and if we miss you we will try to keep you doing something roughly sensible and in the spirit of the context. (Life comes first, so no one feel the need to apologize if and when you delay too long we autopilot you.)

Further, in the spirit of flexibility and rejoicing in enthusiasm, I do welcome Pre-Programmed Orders (I call 'em Macros, like linked sequential hotkeys) so I have a better sense on how to autopilot you! Naturally interruptions can throw everything to shit and reset context, so if you can smaller Macros (number of orders) please.

Hope you all are having fun in the foyer, as you started off the campaign with a bang! :D A bit brain fried, give me a moment to cook up a pleasing chaotic scene.)

OOC: Sorry about the tardiness.  Life happens.

Tadius yells to Ghandus, "Right behind you!" as he tips a brazier over and onto the side of the slavers' tent.  Pulling his second dagger and bringing to mind a minor jinx hex just in case the slavers take umbrage with the group, Tadius hurries to catch up to Ghandus.  That turns out more difficult than Tadius would like even though Ghandus is carrying the slave woman.  Tadius really needs more exercise it would seem.

Akbir Depot (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Surprise Round Finished. Round 1, Fight!

(OOC: Excellent! Now I get to practice Talislanta RAW combat resolution -- cross your fingers we don't explode. :p First I compare opposing combatants' Combat Rating (this gives me +/- to Combat Skill rolls) & magic checks its Ratings (spell & target dependent, e.g. Jinx), next compare Speed Ratings for initiative, then we all roll our d20s and check the action table, and finally I am the one to "make sense of it." I will be using large groups to represent the chaos of the scene, which in Talislanta is to take the best as representative for the group.)

Next closest to this surprising spill of violence, Arimite Knife-fighters look (for once in their miserable goddamn lives) almost happy while Jhangaran exiles look resigned as they ready themselves to square up against the Za fighters. (CR +1 v. Za, SR will go first vs. Za fighters.)

Freed from chattel service the Za fighters mowed through surprised Maruk & Djaffiri traders in their pursuit for more weapons than their leg chains. Armed with fresh staves & black iron swords for their arsenal, they seem keen where the Zaran concubine-to-be is, and are heard talking about "... keep her safe!" (CR 0, SR 0)

Akmiri guards, a motley crew themselves along the hangar's entrances, seem to be taking it easy before engaging. ...? How frequent are scenes like this here?

There is screaming & panicked running from the once-loitering passengers, added in half-octave higher chorus by luggage dancers clutching each other and crumpling (why aren't they fleeing?). The hangar's ambient demon-jukebox flips on to a song about one's love of nightlife as the luggage carousel-track flips on ambiance theatrical lighting in this pandemonium. The bar has also cleared as bartender shuttered the top shelf reflexively and is working on the rest... and the Chattel Agency booth is quite slathered in slaughtered surprised salesmen. A Za fighter is hacking at certain unmanageable war chattels' chains, while another Za fighter is taking advantage of other bound war chattel and slaughtering them. (CR -1, SR -1; except Za.)

(Roll attacks, magic, & skills if you attempted one this round. Ghandus, there will be a few Za chasing you -- but the RAW is rather static -- so you may choose to roll a Speed check to see if you add +1 to your fleeing, buying you some time upon the boat to prepare... something exciting to roll for!)

OK, let's resolve Round 1! Roll 'em! :D

OOC: Sorry for taking so long to post

Amara decides to run out of the bar and make sure she can join up with Ghandus at the sand ship, her sword drawn the entire time and providing any reinforcements he may need against the slavers.

The Danuvian warrior calls out to Ghandus "YO! I got your back on this too. If they get in too close for your bow, I will lend an extra blade!"

Helios barely finishes chanting his Summoning spell (rolls 15 total) when he feels someone reach up to tap his shoulder. He turns and looks down at the witch with a bemused smile. "A Dhuna? Here in Akmir? Perhaps my summoning talents are greater than I imagine? Yes my most beautiful witch, I shall indeed bounce with you, but first lets quickly exit this depot. The entire bar is about to explode."

Sensing his spell was a success, Helios rushes toward the exit. Hopefully, the Dhuna is hot on his heels, or perhaps even hot for his heels. Either way, Helios is leaving the building and runs toward the roaring Thrall!

While Helios is rushing for the exit Astlumia decided to take full advantage of the situation.  She looks at the beautiful woman cargo dancer that really doesn't need make up to look so good.  The witch then casts her spell.

INFLUENCE: BEGUILE

"Hey why don't I take this luggage and follow this sexy woman in furs to safety," should ring in the dancer's mind.

With that done Astlumia heads off for the exit which her graymane steed is outside.

Akmir

Akbir Depot (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Round 1 Resolution

The Arimite Knife-fighters are no pushovers, and a piercing "Oh shiiii--!" is ripped from a Za Fighter's lips as they fall back from a table they clambored upon. A Jhandaran is released of his fate from a dogpile of Zas with knives and another Arimite is finding chains grab throwing hands too.

But it is not just a tiny swarm of Za chattel who were released. Tadius' spilled brazier releases its hooka tabac coals upon bar carpet and hangar hexagonal tile alike, catching unguarded cloth alight, scuh as fleeing passengers' robes. Meanwhile with the dancing spotlight, upbeat music, and spreading tiny fires, there is a rain of sparkling lumen from the ceiling! A truly glorious sight as money enough to buy freedom falls between horrible screams, fires, & fighting.

More staffing chattel is being released or slaughtered. New passenger arrivals are deciding to hurry back out until things calm down, but are coming up against others fresh from gates further down the hangar. A press of humanities is struggling to either join the action, help themselves to riches, or get away. Several large released chattel has been released into this fray: Ur tribals, Saurads, and one Kharakhan Giant.

At this the Akmiri guards know things will get out of hands soon. Whatever is left of the Chattel Agency's Guardstaff, along with any Bar or Duty-Free Shop bouncer is being deputized on the spot. Formations will begin soon, and greater unpleasantness likely after that.

A group of 4 Za rapidly keep chase with Ghandus, with another squad of 9 following after hearing their "Thigriz" (female ???) is being taken in said direction. Amara is unenviably between these groups runnng in the same direction, but as of yet they cannot place the association to Ghandus. Other Za are busy freeing more like them (no wonder there was a special discount!), killing other hated chattel, or busy fighting. Linger long and you might have a larger mob heading for the catamaran...

Helios and Atlumia seem to have found a worthwhile distraction in each other and this general caravan business... oh, and apparently picked up a luggage dancer as a groupie, of course. ;) Still not out of the hangar yet, but there are so many unprecedented excitements around to dawdle upon, what with the fire, melee, flashing lights, raining coin, lovely song, and panicked or greed-frenzied travellers about. Ooh, there goes another luggage dancer chasing after its fleeing owner, "Take me with you! How can you leave me behind! You need me!"

Helios has one goal - get to the Catamaran intact. While Thaecian courtiers are renown for culture and class, their athletic talents are non-existent. It's one thing to dance the night away, but quite another to bolt at full tilt toward the depot doors and the into blazing sand beyond. His only advantage lies in his gangly frame and huge height, but sprinting in flowing robes? Questionable at best.

Akmir

Akbir Depot, Immediately Outside (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Round 2 Resolution

The Akbir Hangar scene looms almost in place as its chaos inside crescendos while the party tries to fade it away with distance. Fleeing passengers are snatching up caravans and rentable mounts in a frantic throw of money, muscle, and status. Oncoming is another platoon of guards, similarly sluggish due to heat (and possibly familiarity to such madness), and there is an alarm sounding which is causing other hangars around Akmir to slip into a defensive posture.

Ghandus unleashes an arrow tagging one of the first wave of chasing Za with a brilliant shot to the thigh! Taking a moment with his excellent reflexes he turns to see the Za concubine-to-be still unconscious. Looking back for the next minute he sees the first wave pushing themselves full tilt, reaching the catamaran and scrambling up -- next round will likely be melee!

Beyond that first wave Amara is visible running on up to the catamaran being followed by a wave of nine (9!) more furious Za. Amara turns while running and slashes at the closest Za, scoring a mighty blow! The fighter stumbles and falls back catching his breath and realizing this is a serious fight -- a Thrall AND a Danuvian!

There seems to have been more left behind in the Akbir Hangar as the second wave yells and gestures back to the hangar as if expecting more support! In the push to close ground, this second wave has two pull ahead at pace with Amara, one utterly fall back out of breath and now pulling towards the Za stumbled by Amara now signalling behind them, 2 rest keeping pace and 3 falling into a jog.

Helios avails himself of Atlumia's invitation and hops upon her horse. Visually assessing the Thrall & Danuvian's vehicle there is actually catamaran room enough for a pony. ;) Soon it looks to be filled with Za at this rate.

The Akbir Hangar guards along its perimeter seem more interested with the madness inside than this current chase outside, passing occasional glances and turning back to their squad leaders for orders.

Amid all this, Tadius seems to be making his way dodging out of the hangar and scampering towards the salt flat catamaran... {OOC: Barring break in autopilot will sneak upon the catamaran and hide in its hull.}

Akbir Depot, Immediately Outside (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Round 3 Resolution

The Akbir Hangar is now a shimmering bonfire throbbing to a frenetic beat. Meanwhile the threat of order encroaches as guard platoons ready to smother the thrill. Seems victims who could flee have done so, the rest within must be willing participants slaking their own thirsts.

Helios successfully hops atop the striding filly, seems to be a graymane, and spots the statuesque Danuvian pushing herself full tilt. She threads up the ramp between enemies before the intervening Za reach her thrall ally. At the end of her sprint, breasts heaving, she readies for attack. Together, armed greatsword by longsword, they stand picturesque shoulder-to-shoulder as bulwark upon the ship's ramp, the Second Sun on the horizon counterbalancing the empty sky next to the main sail; it is a heartbeat before bloodshed, worthy a shot of nectar.

Ghandus' greatsword tip rips a swath across the first Za warrior who reaches the top of the ship's ramp, a warning to others. The Za staggers back a step but still eager stands waiting for backup, his gash trickling blood. As the first batch of Za make it to the top of the ramp they freeze in anticipation upon hearing a sultry voice belt, "Why'd you kidnap me? Another doll for your collection?"

Amara and Ghandus, if you turn to look back, you see the Za woman propping herself on her side with one arm as best she can upon the catamaran netting, the other hand up and outstretched in the universal symbol to stop -- it seems less for either of you than for the warriors. The first batch of Za then flag the second batch of Za to slow, and so on to the third wave of Za escaping the flaming Akbir Depot. There is a fourth wave that seems to be fighting other unrelated Za and miscellaneous fighters trying to spill out from the depot towards you.

Through her you appear to have the Za warriors' attention, the entire gross of them. (OOC - roughly 20+ Za immediately connected to this shared scar-symbol & woman, who knows how many more in the 4th wave or inside?)

In this to-do Astlumia soon pushes Helios & herself ever faster towards the sand flat catamaran racer, calling out an offer to help. The Za woman inquires, "Aid? What sort of games are you playing, intruders?"

The melee in Akbir Depot is pushing at its seams, the fourth wave does not look it can hold its banks much longer and the guard platoons are ready to push in.

"You may want my medical skills and if we need a scout I can volunteer as I am proficient with horse riding.  I also brought with me a noble man who is a spell caster and one of the luggage dancers who can help out with basic maintenance of the catamaran.  With her came additional luggage of unknown contents.  All I ask is can we join?"

Helios, a veteran of many courtly battles of wit, words and wine, knows there is time for repartee and time to flee the specter of bloody violence.

"Witch woman of Za! I honor your beauty and your power over your warriors, but while your voice is lovely and this discussion fascinating, now is not the time. Everyone needs to get aboard the catamaran and we need to sail across the sands as fast as possible. Feel free to thank us for freeing you at a later time."

Helios turns to Astlumia as he slips off the greymane, "Thank you for the ride. I hope we can enjoy a different ride at a more private hour."

Helios shakes the dust from his robes and calls out to the Danuvian and Thrall. "Ready the catamaran for launch. I shall cast a divination spell and learn the path our pursuers will use to catch us. With this fore-knowledge, I must hope your navigation skills are equal to your steel so we can flee unimpeded to our next destination."

Helios begins casting the Divination, looking directly into the sun and entering a mystical trance. "Solar spirits, cast mine eyes into the future! Show me the path of our pursuers and how to escape them."

Akmir

Akbir Depot, Immediately Outside (The Barrens Arrival/Departure Hangar)

Round 4 Resolution

The Akbir Hangar's bonfire has now been stirred by the determined andirons of the guard platoons, spraying embers and screaming bodies out of any giving orifice of its hangar-cum-brazier. This is the breach-point, from here there is little left to the niceties of thought. Those innocents still scrambling outside for the last remaining vehicles to get away see what shall spill forth next will trample them to escape. Whimpering joins screaming.

Helios, fast on the uptake, launches into a sensibly convincing appeal for armistice given the circumstances. Dismounting the greymane and embarking upon the salt flat catamaran with a breathtaking confidence past statuesque Danuvian Amara, one notes how quickly her eyes assess the situation. Ghandus' tensing muscles reflect that in moments he read Amara's judgment and concurred wordlessly to let Helios pass and get comfortable. Comfortable apparently is a spell to divine hope away from here.

This gesture of catamaran crew detente is the thawing ice dam to the hangar's pressure building behind them all... and visibly gives the Za woman pause. Before her agape mouth launches a counterproposal, Astlumia proffers her own assets to this impossible melange. And from off starboard yells, "And I can help you pilot!" -- a sight as mad as the state you find yourselves in -- a Gao sea pirate running desperately across the salt flats from the burning, burgeoning, bellowing melee within the massive building.

"Enough! --" as her eyes finally soften seeing Za warriors dying with intruders alike in chaos, " -- the Tirshata knows we must endure if we are to avenge ourselves of these everlasting trespassers." And with that the first and second wave Za fighters relax; the battle suspends. "Tell them that cannot yet reach us to disengage and meet up at the known 'Western Annex' within the 'Pan of Contrition', which speaks of our sins before our fall. Zaran shall survive!"

"Zaran shall survive!" and Za warriors start calling out and gesturing to successive waves behind them the message until it reaches the bastion holding the hangar's outpouring at bay. With a frenzy parts of the third and fourth wave start attacking any vehicles and mounts within reach to ready their scatter off into the salts flats. A handful of the nearest 3rd wave (five Za) rush to help any wounded 1st wave (four Za) and 2nd wave (nine Za) onto the lifesaving ship.

Altogether an unwieldy crush of eighteen (18!) Za warriors are boarding along with their 'Thigriz'. She stands as nodding interface to her crew and the rest of your inexplicable party, like obeying the ship rigging orders of a Gao pirate newcomer, or a Dhuna's request on boarding her greymare near a Thrall's mangonel lizard in the breezy catamaran hull. With haste your gathered impossible flees into the sweltering calm of a formless horizon.

{OOC - I won't have you chased in earnest just yet. ;)  Now tell me your resolutions and introductions. If you need more rumors sprinkled upon you just ask and then share your favorites.}

After securing her horse Astlumia takes the luggage and finds a serviceable room for medical treatment.  She then starts converting into hospital room.  Well as one can reasonably expect.  The witch has her suspicions about the Za woman, but she is willing to patch the Za men.  Using the golden skin dancer as a assistant Astlumia starts patching them up.  Among her things are various healing herbs that can be use to cure diseases and poisons.  Thankfully these men need a patch up and bandages are easy to get.

Seeing her golden scantily clad assistant the witch finally asks a question.  "So what is your name?  I am Astlumia."

The Barrens

Astlumia

"Buubi-a-buubia, but for simplicity many a master & mistress have called me Buubi," she says eyes downcast, still in thrall to your majesty. "I hope my pirouetting pleases you, my Lassy Astlumia --" looking shocked at her faux pas she tries to recover, "-- oh I presume! Is it Lady Astlumia, and there is a Lord yet to meet?"

In this space you get to unwind and bond with your new gold lamé wrapped luggage dancer assistant at your prerogative. The luggage seems interesting, faint glittery fingerprints remain near the locked clasps. Brushing up against them leaves a dissipating tingle...? When up close and the surrounds quiet down a muffled ticking sounds from inside.

**

Ghandus

Your mangonel lizard looks fat & happy, enjoying the afternoon breeze in the cargonet hold. Occassional snorts on the breeze speak of it sensing land lizards and possibly other mangonels out there in the sun blasted saltpan. She keeps sniffing North-Westerly as if teased by ripened cantalopes; could be a hint towards an emergency oasis? You do worry about any wild stallions out there however...

**

ALL

At sunset the Za woman asks for everyone's attention. "As Thigriz I cannot in good faith ask intruders to walk towards our Zaran shame, let alone face shared death in the 'Pan of Contrition'. Your kind come into the fallen ruins of our homeland without proper permission ritual and try to continue as if nothing is amiss. But you also offered help in  the face of a grinding death to our clan's honor, and great enemies to yourself.

"So you wish to share our pulverizing fate and make shelter in the forsaken dust and salt of our ancestral folly? Well, any so crazy might be strong enough to understand a Za's Fate to Zaran and be welcomed as guest into 'Our Collapsing House'. If you are so ready, send forth your emissary to brand your request for permission to enter Zaran." Upon a lamp she heats a black iron brass-knucle brand, of a pattern noticeably smaller & different than the brand upon each Za.

/if and when whoever volunteers, she will brand you upon the exposed back or shoulder

"I welcome you to the House of Zaran, participants in bringing the Fall upon Talislanta, cursed for our abetting hubris, and whose generations are tasked to keep innocents and fools from coming here uninvited and rebuilding the Nightmares Age again.

"I am Calla. I am a Thigriz, like a shamen or witch to you. Feel safe to call me Calla. We are the almost-shattered Equus Bladder clan. We owe you a clan debt. The men are given license to speak plainly with their public names to you. Respect to you as you respect our house.

"The brand will give pause to other Za. But we are each tasked differently by the Tirshata, and often fight to 'do the right thing, even unto death!' So while we shall not slaughter you, our guests, sometimes our extended family will atone with your blood even after knowing you have been admitted. Apologies, but the way of righteousness is hard, mysterious, and mostly violent...

"Speaking of which, we ask a favor to meet up with our remaining number deep into the 'Pan of Contrition' at the 'Western Annex'. It is asking you to walk into death. There you can find a slice of our forefathers' sins, and much reassuring black iron besides. But it is a lot to ask immediately... as long as we are travelling within what you call The Barrens we will wait a week or two to get there, as you need to prepare."

"... and, thank you, guests."

**

{OOC: You have time to dawdle on another adventure on the way to the meeting point!}

Quest: Go to the 'Western Annex' in the 'Pan of Contrition', meet up with rest of Equus Bladder Clan. Maybe see the sins of the Zaran forefathers?

Rumor: Apparently a Bandit Gang, 'Screamers to the Purple Sun', is teetering upon collapse somewhere in the Western Barrens. Maybe another boat can be stolen for the flotilla.

Rumor: The Salt Devils are said to have some of the sweetest soul music. The performing imps nod, but shiver at the thought, demons often being food for rampaging devils.

Astlumis looked over at Buubi with curiosity as she finishes off the last Za warrior.

"Relax Buubi.  You are right in the fact that I am not married.  What man I would had wedded died a long time ago by those filthy fanatics from Aaman...  sigh...  Sorry I am getting into a dark place that I shouldn't had brought up.  Do you know what is in that luggage?"

Astlumia

Buubi eyes visibly moisten at your tragedy. At the abrupt change in topic she blinks back tears and musters a well-trained professionalism. "Why of course I would never know what is within 'me' until 'my owner' reveals 'my essence', my Lassy!"

It is an otherwise disorienting phrasing, luggage dancers projecting anthropomorphized identities upon unclaimed luggage until they are claimed or next carousel strut. But it is part of the make-work for travel hub entertainers, grabbing attention of disembarking travelers to quickly process personal packages. They claim a legacy stretching from before The Fall, but so do a lot of curious professions.

{OOC - She doesn't know and still assumes this is your luggage.}

Astlumia looks at the golden Buubi for a second before speaking.

"Do me a favor.  Go find the captain and inform him that I need to speak to him in secret.  If I am not in this room when you both arrive please wait."

As soon as Buubi leaves the room the witch immediately grabs the luggage and finds the nearest opening to toss the damn thing out of the vehicle.  If it ticks it can explode and Astlumia isn't planning to die today.  She will explain to the captain about it when he gets here.  Though not with Buubi around as that will give her a heart attack.

Astlumia

"Absolutely, my Lassy!" and sashays out of the breezy canopy cabin towards Ghandus.

Given that this ship is a catamaran and comprised of mostly sail, rope, and netting straddling very narrow pontoons on red iron wheels, holes to the outside of it are prolific. That said, some holes are more luggage-sized than others. Taking the path of least resistance, you place the luggage upon a netting sill next to a cargo-tarp porthole and nudge it safely off the side...

Ghandus, Amara, & Helios

... and a spume of pink glitterdust erupts off the port side (left of prow) during a port-arcing tack (wide left turn) leeward (downwind)! With the wind pushing the dust downwind into your ship's direction in the coming round or two, you spot the gold luggage dancer vamping towards you with a message that Astlumia wants to speak with the captain, likely Ghandus or Amara. (Nok may look like a captain, but is a newcomer onto this boat -- and seems more like a pilot unlearning some sea sailing versus salt sailing assumptions.)

Helios {
SPOILER (Hover over section below to view.)

If that pink glitterdust is what you think it is, that's a vintage of contact hallucinogenic fun you haven't had in a very long time... And there doesn't seem to be any obstables this craft will crash into in the foreseeable future hours. Temptation versus responsibilities...

Ghandus watches her approach with a steady gaze--in a firm, though pleasant tone--speaking directly to her,

"Yes. What do you have, woman?"

Ghandus has a cool drink in his hand, and keeps one eye aimed at watching the ship's progress.

Round 1

Ghandus

"My Lass," seductively dancing as she goes on, "who has claimed 'me' -- her precious belongings in the taupe double clasp hardshell with lustrous handle finish --." She twirls into a distressed damsel lean upon a taut netting and webs her fingers to her chest indicating herself, "-- from the so recently endangered dance carousel, requests an audience with you, Captain."

"If you need privacy you can leave me on deck or place me in the cargo hold," she sulks piteously.

... luggage dancers always did blur the lines of anthropomorphism hard.

That pink dust cloud is closing on this round, though. Will likely blow through this 'gauzy ship' on the round after next (3rd rd). Strange dust, but hopefully just dust.

{OOC: anyone else acting on this Round 1?}

Ghandus offers his left shoulder to receive the special ritual marking.

Helios, how goes your divination? I think we should travel to meet up with her clan at the annex in the west.

Ghandus then reaches into a shoulder pouch, and pulls out a fine cigar, and proceeds to slowly light it up, puffing on the cigar gently.

"Helios....how goes your...divination?" speaks a far and distant voice, for Helios is deep within his trance, eyes burning into the sun, seeking the wisdom of the solar spirits.

"Who is this Helios? What is this Talislanta?" ask the spirits within his eyes.

Having caught the attention of the solar spirits, Helios knows it is the time to bargain for the foresight he seeks: "You shall see what I have seen, but first you must show me what is to come! Sun spirits, show me the path of our pursuers and how to escape them."

And one spirits answers, "We shall show you Helios, but first you must take a VERY deep breath."

Hmm, thinks a sun-blasted Helios, how very odd for a solar spirit to take the form of a rushing cloud of pink glitterdust?

Salt-Flat Cargo Catamaran

Helios

Inhales deeply as the pink dust cloud with suspended iridescent flecks caresses over the entire vehicle. Being little more than rigging and netting presumably everyone is coated, depending on how clothed they are in this heat. Oh yeah, no mistaking that initial airy tingle followed by gradual return to warmth, like being coated in witch hazel & alcohol solution and left to dry in a calm morning. That’s some weapon-grade stuff right there…

{The Jukebox Imps are first to succumb, eyes rolling up in their head, and their beat changing to an entirely different song not in their catalog. This is some direct-from-the-source inspiration!}
BGM - “I Feel Love,” Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder

{“Go back and retrieve her luggage! Now!” the solar deva commands.}

And in a mental flash you see a taupe double clasp hardshell with lustrous handle finish splayed open in the golden-mauve lighting transition from late afternoon to dusk. Your boat is arcing away, but can easily backtrack if you hold this turn into a full circle —

Helios to Everyone

“Hold this position!” you yell to Nok at the helm.

— and you realize you have only a few minutes to steady the crew before they collide upon the tides of ecstasy… for hours. —

“Ready the gaffing poles for a pickup! Saddle on your safety harnesses or get into the hold if you can’t find one!”

— You strap on the nearest padded chest harness with tether ending in a carabiner and start commanding who seems to be best resisting the dust’s effects. Ghandus and Amara stand out notably given their size and bare skin, the dosage is already tremendous, they should otherwise be going limp by now. In the next rounds you prepare while circling back. —

“Gaff the luggage! No, not her aerial dancing in the rigging! The luggage, the luggage down there! Dammit, it’s up to you, Ghandus and Amara!”

{“I feeel looove… I feel looooOOOOooooOOOOve! I feel loooOOOOooooOOOOve! …}

— Several Za fail in their pass, some even going slack from pleasure, while Buubi whirls majestically from the main sail rigging to which her harness is tethered. Ghandus knocks the luggage’s side so that it rotates, giving Amara full opening to the handle… success! —

Helios

A glint of reflecting sunlight staggers Helios, {“And head onto the Second Sun until morning… Destiny…” a vision of the solar deva holds your limp form, cooing wisdom to you, then fades into your tethered harness.}

Helios to Everyone

“All right, Nok, here’s the hard part, stay with me until we face into the setting Second Sun,” you recover, direct the luggage into the ‘med bay’ cabin for inspection, and then stand with the helmsman.

— This reminds you why as Thaecians your people prefer flowing robes and massive brandy sniffer orbs, for they were excellent and discreet defenses during the Hedonism Wars. Covering skin from contact drugs and holding spare breathable air from pleasure gases is only practical during enchanter… “disagreements.” Looks like Nok needs some encouragement. —

“You’re doing great Nok, just a little more and you can set up the cruise-control rigging.”

— Yes, salt versus sea piloting must be different. His mastery is noticeable, except all the controls and ship responses fight his instincts. All right, here we go, he did great considering. You help Nok finish the last of the cruise-control rigging as he sags into unbearable release.

{“I feeel looove… I feel looooOOOOooooOOOOve! I feel loooOOOOooooOOOOve! …}

Here’s where a song bridge should be, just enough time to confer with the most clothed what it is in that luggage that must be kept before we 'fumble towards ecstasy'.

Catamaran ‘Med-Bay’ Cabin
Helios, Astumia, and ‘Thigriz’ (Calla)

Entering the ‘med-bay’ cabin there is only Astlumia and she who is called ‘Thigriz’ remaining, well-clothed in this heat as they are. A look of concern briefly passes over their faces between rising waves of joy. The taupe luggage lies open amidst you all, with a magi-clockwork device ticking in its center, each clamshell reservoir over half filled with more iridescent pink drug dust behind clear panes, and a delivery spray nozzle… confirming your worst suspicions. But my, how that lustrous handle finish ties the whole ensemble together! Must. hurry. too. much. feel. good.

It is a Glittaneous Neuro-Aesthesic Amplifying Transcenderizer System. Military-and-Concert-Arena-Grade. Thaecian-made. And so very contraband without a licensed military-imagineer escort. Either a new “disagreement” is starting or, due to this one’s absence, will start and whatever in-over-their-head bootleg event promoter is playing with this is in for a world of ecstatic-agony. So one or two more foes are likely coming for all your heads.

Your revelation to your allies garners a mix of smoldering looks, pouting, and unconscious vamping, making it hard to gauge their stress response, but if bad news ever had to be delivered this might be the best way. It is the most alluring to be sure. And yet curiously Astlumia gives away not a whit whether she herself is the in-over-her-head event promoter. Time for private questions later.

“My bosom beguiles me as it heaves under this changing fabric. I have never noticed the sensuous value of so much clothing before. Is this why you outsiders like it?” the Thigriz breaks the silence after the reveal. Yeah, she’s not long for consciousness, but at least she warmed from ‘intruders’ to ‘outsiders’, so the evening looks to bring surprises, maybe even friendship. There are two more spume charges left in the suitcase, or one enormous spume blast, you share as the last of coherence ebbs from your gathering.

[OOC: ALL PCs, you each have a last chance to say something before you slip into unconsciousness on the ‘crystal’ ship.]

{“I feeel looove… I feel looooOOOOooooOOOOve! I feel loooOOOOooooOOOOve! …}

[OOC: During this evening’s haze of pleasure the Thigriz will reveal her name as Calla and offer invitational branding as Guests of Zaran (previous post, slotting it in its proper time slot). From here we will have you awaken in the dead of night to The Ride, where the jukebox imps will switch to playing “Magic” by Olivia Newton-John, and the ship’s LuminOrbs (lanterns) attract the abyssal howl and massive distant silhouettes of salt devils.]

{OOC: Salt Devils encounter still being baked between holiday errands. That said, I anticipate you will have something to chew on during Thanksgiving weekend.  ;)

And to process other social interactions -- such as discreet inquiries, battle tactics collaborations, and developing relationships -- take this time to chat amongst yourselves and NPCs on the boat. We will place this time during the Zaran Guest Invitation (branding ceremony), still within The Take-Off but a few hours after the immobilizing ecstacy. There is some juicy news worth sharing among yourselves before I slam you into your next combat encounter.  :)

Only GM request is: imagine your PC is still blissing out in their struggle to hold it together after waking.  8) :-* Less stoic bloodthirsty, more rave puddle lovey-dovey. {As the night spills into a somnambulism-suffused synchronicity, the Jukebox Imps are first on the uptake with a strutting bass and plucky treble. The torchlight crooning pours in and wraps around all of you a warmth that complements the desert's cooling turn.}
BGM - "Magic," Olivia Newton-John

Whatever drug these GNAATS you are now stuck on is, it's currently changing your sensations to a supremely confident and capable version of you.

{"Come take my hand, You should know me, I've always been in your mind, You know I will be kind, I'll be guiding you..."}

The stars and aurora-lit neon clouds, that would otherwise be hidden ink blots in the night sky, stage the distant peaks of the Eastern Borderlands. Together with the ship's LuminOrbs lighting little more than the ship and onrushing ground a delicious disorientation plays. 'Destination afar' and 'Journeymen here' floats speedily in naught but the black 'Unknown between'. Maybe this is what flying feels like.

{"Building your dream, Has to start now, There"s no other road to take, You won't make a mistake, I'll be guiding you..."}

A ridge pops up to your ship's right and rises, "running" alongside your ship. Set even a second off during the afternoon could have careened the craft upon this rocky shoal among salt plains. Whoever is involved is guiding you all indeed.

And a boulder crashes to your ship's left, rocking the catamaran!

The LuminOrbs send shadows dancing dizzily in their sway. Before anyone's recovery a roar crashes around you... and then follows a worse swaying! It nearly capsizes the boat, the craft rocks violently!

In the vessel's dancing lights, listing to and fro through racing darkness, a 13 foot tall horned humanoid the color and texture of polished brass stands laughing holding a skull-capped maul greater than an equs! A Salt Devil, an Enim! It booms, "Hello, dinner."

{"You have to believe we are magic, nothing can stand in our way..."}
