This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it's more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Waiting on the rest to chime in and we will get moving. However if we go another day or two without responses maybe we can work out another way to keep this going.

OOC: It is hard to maintain momentum, isn't it? Very different medium than face to face.

OOC: I figure we have enough people active to get this moving again.

Grunhilda is still attempting to pry open the door to the goblin tunnel. Her keen sense for stone work finally alerts her to a peculiarly shaped formation of rocks nearby to the entrance. Upon inspection it appears as if lifting one of the stones might activate some sort of release mechanism opening the hidden entrance.

The fleeing Goblin/Wolf party is moving recklessly, they are in a wild flight to safety. Grunhilda is alerted to their presence at a good distance due to their haste, she has perhaps a few moments to attempt to conceal herself or set an ambush. She could hide behind another of the small hillocks about, or some brush.

Grunhilda curses wildly under her bad breath. Damn wolves arrive just as she finds the mechanism! The wolves will smell her when they arrive and sound the alert, or hunt her down.

She seriously considers just opening the secret door and exploring alone. She would have surprise, and the wolves would be locked out...but who knows what lurks in the hillside.

Hmm...

Grunhilda suddenly turns and rushes to back the small hillocks and hide in the brush, axes ready to cut down any wolves who rush her. If the goblins let the wolves into their tunnel, she will wait a moment for their secret door to close, then run back to camp. She may not have much speed, but her strong endurance will allow her to run without stopping.

The fleeing mob scarce seem interested in their surroundings. As they near the entrance the surviving goblin dismounts and hurriedly lifts a single stone that has a bar attached to it. Once raised about a foot he gives it a turn to left then drops it, the mechanism sliding back into place with a hiss again looking like nothing more than a simple rock cast upon the dirt. Grunhilda easily notes that this seems a bit complicated for the handy work of goblins.

As the entrance opens the survivors rush inward and a second later the entrance closes again.

Grunhilda rushes back to the camp site, not the quickest but her steady pace puts her there in good time.

OOC: Well guys it looks like this game has well and truly wound down. I got sick for a rather good period of time and I think it just completely broke the pace of the game, which is hard enough to maintain on a play by post game.

If you guys express enough interest I'd certainly be willing to keep this game going, but if not I have another idea I'm toying around with for a PbP game.

OOC: I'm game to keep going! Combat is a problem for PbP. Perhaps we need to settle multiple rounds in a single action? AKA, one post for 3 rounds of combat?  Maybe have players define "I keep attacking until under half HP, then retreat" or "As the cleric, I cast Cure Wounds on anyone who takes a nasty blow and until then, I mace away."

OOC: I saw a good recommendation at Unseen Servant? that to keep pace have players state their ideal goal and break point alternate for conflicts, especially combat. So players would say, "I fight the goblins to the death wherever we meet & fight," or "ambush & fight until our first casualty, then we flee with our wounded and regroup."

Yes, it is heretical swine talk bordering on conflict stakes & resolution, I'll go stand in the corner now...

If you two are game to continue then I'm in. I think speeding combat is a good idea. I like Opa's suggestion. If everyone is ok then from now on out for combat I will have the players declare their goals for the combat with a back up or alternate to be taken given certain conditions.

As to moving forward from here I will simply "play" for the others until we are back in town.

Gillibrecht shall take a break from wood shaping and go visit his neighbors, unannounced, with a smattering of gherkins and cornichons. He wants to get their opinion on his pickles, as well as their thoughts about the fort's current excitement.

OOC: yes, he's Pepsi Challenging his neighbors with pickles and collecting local opinions on the influx of strangers.
