This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"Nobody touch anything!" Thurl yells. "I can't make heads or tails of this, but it's obviously cursed somehow. Someone else should take a look... and try not to get us all killed while you're at it," he says, grumbling.

Tommy Brownell

Bahib, smoldering, mutters "Don't touch anything? No problem."

Blandon nudges Rock. "We're wastin' time here...let's get this thing open and be on with it."

Watt: Stepping back, "Man, that burns!"

Blessed: "Here brother, have some cheese!"

Glum: "Ken I break it down now?"

beermotor

Rock hesitates, looks at Watt and Bahib, then Rahab. He seems confused about what to do; ordinarily he'd just bash it, but exploding fire/light trap frightens his simple mind a bit.

Rahab shakes her head. "Obviously, there's more to this door than meets the eye... it is protected by sorcery. We should study it more carefully. There may be a way to disable the trap, or appease whatever spirit guards it against entry."

"And what if there ain't?" Arik says.

Rahab shrugs.

Rock says, "Then bash." He smiles, feeling that it's been settled now.

Rahab rolls her eyes, then walks up close to the door. "Stand back," she says to the others. Then she makes a closer inspection, looking at the jewels, the door, for any carvings, runes, inscriptions, that sort of thing. Any clue about the mechanism for the light, or some clue about the sorcery protecting the door.

Weru

Rahab studies the door, but can make no sense of the patterns or mechanisms. Of course, her background as a harlot hasn't really made her an expert on such subjects.

Right... but she's smart. Sort of.

"I can't tell anything unusual about the door. Has anyone tried simply opening it?" She moves back.

Dominic walks up. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!" He tries to open the door.

Weru

Bravely Dominic steps up and tries the door with the crystals of burning light and . . . it's locked.

Tommy Brownell

Ghalidir meekly clears his throat and steps forward.

"Excuse me," he says, nudging Dominic. "Perhaps I can unravek the mystery of the door?"

Ghalidir puts his scholarly expertise to use and after a couple of minutes musing he notices that the star shaped crystals on the door are aligned in the manner of a constellation. A quick glance down short tunnel and he sees it's a constellation that can been seen in the night sky, one that in an hour or two will be perfectly aligned with the crystal constellation on the door.

Tommy Brownell

"But not for long," Ghalidir says. "It's a lock...tied to the celestial constellations. I would imagine that we will be able to enter this door in an hour or two."

"An hour or two?" Seville asks. "What're we supposed to do until then?"

"Is it magic that seals the door? How can you be sure?" Rahab says. "And more to the point, will it seal us inside?" She looks around in the hallway. "Is there anything here that we could use to stop it from closing on us?"

Dominic points at Rock.

Arik chuckles.

Glum: - "Well, let's sit a spell then..."

Weru

You wait chatting idly until, as time passes and the constellation moves through the night sky, you become so quiet that even those at the back of the tunnel hear the soft click of the lock's mechanism when the the stars in the sky align with those on the door.

One of you pushes it open and in the flickering light from one of Thurl's candles you peek  in . . .

QuoteAcross from this room is another stout door. Four iron statues flank the door, two to a side. Each statue depicts a different fighting man in a round iron helmet and thick scaled armor holding a long spear in a throwing position. All the spear-tips are aimed at the door you just opened.
