Title: "Do the Shuffle!": a Talislanta Sword & Planet Disco Fantasia
Post by: Opaopajr on July 14, 2020, 12:46:22 PM
Well, this is it kids... sanity's precipice.

This'll be a Play-by-Post where I am new to running Talislanta (viiiirgin!), and I hope most of you are too! (:o be gentle) So far the concept is mostly what it says on the tin.

I wanna test out a mostly RAW barebones Talislanta on its rather "high concept" world through a sword & planet world lens (pushes up my 'problem glasses'), with the twist of a disco soundtrack aesthetic instead of an acid heavy metal one. /pursed lips smirk
:D

What that means is euphoric, flamboyant, and more than a touch shallow... also it's an excuse for me to post video links to cheesy videos and bad fashion. ;) (Yeeeees, we will have violence, too! )

I dunno how many players are too many for Talislanta, but eh, if it can handle Stable of Characters playstyle like D&D (quick chargen, low PC attachment, can split up, regroup, and/or wander off into the sunset like Conan/Rastan) we can do that if there's a lot of players. (:o no seriously, please be gentle) So let's see a show of victims while I decide a starting location, any demographic & resource restrictions, and other world building context.

Pray for us all. :)

PS: ... yes, it should be "do the hustle." :p this is off to an amazing start! I have a good feeling about this, bring facial tissues. :D

You got a seat, Spinachcat! :D (But you can only identify as, not play as, an elf in Talislanta. :p RAW viiirgin! GM needs you to be gentle :o :D )

I choose you, 2e! :) Because it has been the one I've been currently reading the most for setting info.

(Rules look like they don't have huge shifts between editions -- which is a big selling point for CoC, I'm surprised not used as a selling point for Talislanta!)

... aaand to give you a sense of the alien Disco-Italo-Funk sound I am thinking, some Yugoslavian disco-funk, Boomerang - "'Nothing New from the West'":

Of course you Doc Sammy & insubordinate polyhedral have a seat. :)

So far that is four. Currently looking at a few desert locales and deciding. Meanwhile think up a fashionable nightclub-barbarian look, and give me some time to get back to narrow down culture and campaign scope.

I'm thinking of a rainbow-skinned Thrall Warrior--Ghandus Dharmen.

Most work as mercenary warriors.

The great reptilian head is flanked by a pair of gold lightning bolts, and below the reptilian mouth is a simple inscription in Talislan, in bold, black letters, saying "Relentless". The interior front of the great shield is a pale, metallic green, while the edges of the shield are black. The shield has a rectangular shape.

Weapons

Greatsword (WT: 20-lbs; 1d12 Damage). The immense Greatsword is kept in a scabbard of pale gray Mangonel Lizard Hide, strapped to Ghandus's back. The great blade is polished steel, with a handle inscribed in Talislan, "Judgment is Coming".

The handle has a pommel that is carved into a Mangonel Lizard's head, and inlaid carefully with black iron, providing the hand axe with an extra measure of balance.

Milk white tunic and kilt, with bright purple embroidery on the edges. A large cloak over his shoulders, being a bright, lemon yellow in colour, crafted of fine and luxurious silk and flamboyantly fringed with silver and purple Sawila feathers. Ghandus Dharmen wears a thick, heavy chain of polished black steel and silver dangling casually from about his neck. The heavy neck chain is crafted of good workmanship and high quality silver, and is valued at 10 Gold Lumen. Also hanging over his chest is a well-made water-skin of some strange hide of a sea creature, with a shark-head stopper at the water-skin's nozzle. The shark stoppered water-skin holds 2-gallons of liquid. The shark head stopper is crafted of shimmering white pearl and inlaid with silver.

Character Background and History

Ghandus Dharmen is a Thrall Warrior from the village of Sembu. The village of Sembu is a large fortified village in the Kingdom of Taz. Much of the land of the Kingdom of Taz is dense, rugged jungle. Thralls live in a tribal culture, composed of and organized into tribes. While the Thrall people are largely tribal, the Kingdom of Taz is a tribal kingdom ruled by a royal monarch, known as the Warrior King--or the Warrior Queen, as appropriate. All of the various Thrall tribes owe allegiance to the Warrior King or Warrior Queen. The Kingdom of Taz has developed some degree of urban civilization, and has several cities throughout the realm. The capital city of the Kingdom of Taz is the fortress-city of Tor. Many Thrall people live throughout the kingdom in fortified villages, embracing a simple agrarian lifestyle focused on farming, as well as hunting, fishing, and herding. Beyond such essentials the Thrall are a warrior people, whose primary occupation is warfare.

Ghandus comes from a large family, and has three brothers and five sisters in his immediate family, besides his parents. Ghandus's father, Vhandar, is an Artificer (Stone). Ghandus's mother, Sobah, is an Agriculturist (Farmer). Both of Ghandus's parents have served in the kingdom's army, and are veteran soldiers.

Ghandus has been serving in the Royal Army with distinction, having demonstrated loyalty, obedience, good judgment and leadership. Ghandus is also in excellent fighting condition, and is highly trained in weapons and martial combat. Ghandus has volunteered to being assigned in a special Explorer Company. The Explorer Companies are special units of Thrall warriors given the mission of exploring nearby regions of wilderness, identify potential enemies and threats, and also to seek out friendly tribes and peoples, and to pursue cultivating positive military and cultural relationships. Members of the Explorer Companies usually operate in small groups, and sometimes alone. Ghandus has been in the special Explorer Company for just over a year, and sends special reports to the Company Headquarters roughly every three months, detailing his experiences in the wilderness. Ghandus has been hiring himself out as a caravan guard for much of this time, gaining experience and knowledge traveling about in the region. In some of the local cities, Ghandus has embraced temporary assignments serving as private security to various merchants and nobles. Ghandus is always watchful for new opportunities and adventure.

Ghandus's Major Personality Traits

Personality Traits (Positive or Neutral)
Ghandus is fiercely loyal to his family, his friends, and his country.

Personality Traits (Negative)
Ghandus is often Quick-Tempered and prone to displays of violence.

Ghandus's General Personality

Ghandus is highly disciplined, and energetic and enthusiastic about almost everything in life. Even with exhausting or unpleasant tasks, Ghandus seems eager to jump into them with a relentless enthusiasm bordering on the masochistic. Ghandus has an aggressive and bold nature, and a tireless work ethic. Ghandus is forthright in his thoughts, and seemingly possesses little filter in speaking his mind. Ghandus often has a tendency to speak aloud what everyone around him may be thinking, but choose to remain quiet. Ghandus is encouraging towards his fellows, but has a penchant for indulging in the critical kind of motivational commentary, readily remarking on other's laziness, weakness, or lack of good discipline. While often appearing to be harsh and judgmental--which Ghandus proudly boasts of being--he is quick in defending his friends, women, the elderly, and the weak, rising forth like a storm-cloud in their defense. When relaxing and unwinding, Ghandus is a devoted hedonist, embracing dancing, music, great feasts, smoking, games, and all manner of festive entertainment. Ghandus eagerly joins festivities and partying, heedless of any appearance of being foolish or silly. Ghandus embraces every aspect of life with energy and passion.

Parents and Family
Both of Ghandus’s parents are alive and well. Vhandar, Ghandus's father, is 56 years old. Ghandus's mother, Sobah, is 52 years old. Vhandar served in the Royal Army, and then was an adventurer and mercenary for several years before becoming a professional stone artificer. Sobah served in the Royal Army, and then became an adventurer and mercenary for several years. After meeting Vhandar while adventuring, Vhandar and Sobah married and returned to their homeland in the jungles of Taz. Sobah grew up in a farming family, so she embraced being a farmer after her service in the Royal Army and years as an adventurer. Ghandus's parents are very proud of Ghandus's achievements, his relentless work ethic, and his honorable service in the Royal Army. Ghandus's relationship status with both of his parents is benevolent. Ghandus has three brothers and five sisters. Within the family, Ghandus is the youngest son, and also the last son born to Vhandar and Sobah. Ghandus has two younger sisters, Chaambee and Naambah. While at times during his youth Ghandus was spoiled by his parents, he has none the less been raised with strong discipline. Ghandus generally gets along very well with all of his siblings, of which he has cultivated a benevolent relationship with each of them. Some families are strained by dissension and jealousy, while others strive to build strong, positive relationships amongst all of the family members. Ghandus is passionate about all of his siblings, and even though he is the youngest son, Ghandus is fanatically loyal and protective of all of his siblings, eager to help them with anything. Vhandar and Sobah have taught all of their children the great importance of honour and loyalty, especially to the family.

Additional Associates

Childhood Friend:
Zharben Male Thrall, Soldier in the Royal Army; Age (15).
Zharben is a professional soldier, like Ghandus. Zharben has served in the Infantry as Ghandus has, but has also been trained as an Engineer. Zharben's father is an Artificer (Stone) and has passed a love for stone and craftsmanship down to his son, Zharben. Zharben has been especially passionate about the necessity and wisdom of building a vast network of stone roads, highways, and bridges throughout the Kingdom. Zharben also embraces visions of establishing several large dams and sophisticated reservoirs throughout the Kingdom, providing controlled supply of fresh water for enhancing the growing Thrall farming industry, but also to facilitate the development of a system of canals, allowing transport by barge and ship throughout the Kingdom. Zharben is originally from the village of Naalembi, which is just a few miles to the south of the village of Sembu. Zharben and Ghandus became friends while children, before they joined the army. Zharben's father being a artificer of stone, like Ghandus's father, gave the two more common experiences. Zharben's family and Ghandus's family have been close friends for many years. After joining the Royal Army together, the two maintained a close friendship even as they were sometimes in different army units. During their third year in the army, the two friends were in the same cavalry unit for training with the Mangonel Lizards. During the long months of Mangonel training, Zharben and Ghandus would gather some buddies from their unit in their off time and visit local taverns and dance halls. Besides spending far too much time drinking, gambling, and mixing with the women in the dance halls, Ghandus and Zharben would also eagerly attend festive parties held by nearby traveling caravans, drinking and dancing around great bonfires, with drums and lyres playing all about. After being together in the Mangonel unit together for a year, Ghandus and Zharben are now in different companies, with Ghandus being in an Explorer Company while Zharben is serving in an Engineering Company.

Mardaan is currently involved in developing Counting Houses and land development efforts, having established a foundational land development company. Mardaan's land development company embraces several disciplines, resource management, and business development. Mardaan is involved in developing lumber and wood harvesting businesses, metal forges, stone foundries, as well as the expansion and growth of different groups of animals throughout the Kingdom, providing additional food supply, as well as a constant supply of meat animals, and animals for labour and warfare. Mardaan is originally from the city of Tor, which is the capital city of the Kingdom of Taz. Mardaan originally met Ghandus when Mardaan was traveling in a caravan on the frontier, where the caravan was attacked by marauding bandits. During the encounter, Ghandus was leading a cavalry patrol, mounted on Manganell Lizards, and heroically intervened, killing many of the bandits. In the process, Ghandus saved Mardaan's life, as well as the life of Mardaan's younger sister, Chaandu. This encounter occurred some two years ago, when Ghandus had been in the army for about two years. Ghandus and Mardaan have been strong friends ever since. Chaandu was 13 years old when she was saved by Ghandus from the bandits. In the two years since, Chaandu has remained in contact with Ghandus, gradually developing a friendship. Captain Aggaamnu has known Ghandus since he signed up for the army, when he was 9 years old. Captain Aggaamnu has trained Ghandus for four years, ensuring that Ghandus is highly trained for any mission. While Ghandus has gone onward to an assignment with an Explorer Company, Ghandus remains in close contact with his old commanding officer, sending him letters and packages on a regular basis. Beyond specific training as a professional soldier and a skilled warrior in all regards, Captain Aggaamnu took particular interest in encouraging Ghandus to pursue excellence and success in all areas of life, and to strive to be the best that he can be with anything he sets his mind to accomplishing. I'm really excited for this one. Lemme think of a good character, probably thinking of some kind of Amazonian fighter chick, just need to refine the concept a bit.

Sounds very good, Shark! Should be able to incoporate a Thrall nearly anywhere on Talislanta continent.

Doc Sammy, check out the Danuvian battle women. Seems to scratch your amazonian itch and will be from the starting scope I choose.

As for deciding that place... I choose you, the Wilderlands! (Specifically around town of Akmir, between the Desert Wastes and The Barrens, between distant Danuvia & Djaffa.)

The Wilderlands has a lot of scantily clad peoples mixed with flowy robes peoples, and a mix of alien, ruined, and decadent city-states all around. An excuse to start you in Mad Max Murderhobo-land and shuffle you around various 'discotheques' once you are 'dressed to kill' as it were.

Next, Campaign Purpose & Party Cohesion.

Campaign purpose is partying, violence, & vanity. Think "75%+ Off!" sales before a Friday night 3-day-weekend bender. There's no real "end game" in terms of leveling up, saving the world, or defeating a Big Bad Evil Guy; it's about 'killing it' at the clubs and being the best looking while doing it. Yeah, it's gonna be a shallow Heavy Metal magazine world with a bitchin' dancefloor soundtrack. :p

Party Cohesion... well, try not to kill each other, unless you are both wearing the same thing at a big event. :o I assume you will all be self-motivated to go forth, kill things, and take their prettiest stuff. :D But given I won't be doing anything like X Cards, speak now if you have certain delicate sensibilities we need to wrap in foam padding.

As for me, I will try to fade-to-black any excesses into NC-17/XXX, just as a courtesy to this website and this being a publicly viewable game. But... I am OK with riding that rated-R into fade-to-black edge. :) What you do for those shoes is mostly a story I am fine letting you tell. :p

Any other questions before we start chargen?

Greetings!

Yes, my friend. What are the nearby cities and towns? What are their names? Can you provide a prospectus on each of them, with political climate, cultural traits, mercantile traditions, and most prominent religions?

Also some overviews of the local wilderness and rural peoples, and any opposition factions or tribes. Their religions, culture, and politics.

Of course!  :)

Talislanta 2e Worldbook (the scholar looking guy cover). "The Wilderlands of Zaran" Chapter, pages 32 thru 43.

Should answer most of your setting questions. Further, I will be playing faster and looser than usual, so do not overthink the setting politics & culture too much. This won't be a social studies quiz so much as a fun romp through Heavy Metal Hurlant comic pages (yes Doc Sammy, restrain the manga tropes and play to the euro-comix ones :p).

That should cut most RPG reading to be location conversant down to 10 pages, plus system mechanics... which we'll mostly stumble along with some veteran help. :)

The Thaecian Enchanter looks like fun at parties.

I'm thinking he's was a wealthy and connected hanger-on to the Thaecian court who got  bored by the "safe" decadence of the noble's party scene. After a night of too much wine, he let his inner thoughts fly free and upon sobering, decided swift departure was the right move, and many months later, after a "disastrous caravan disaster", he's wandered into Akmir.

I'll work out Chargen over this weekend.

THAECIAN ENCHANTER
SIZE: 6'-6'6",100-160 Ibs.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Silvery skin, deep blue hair,
distinctive features, slender physique.
ATTRIBUTES: INT +3, CHA +3, PER +3
HIT POINTS: 1 0
SPECIAL ABILITIES: None
SKILLS: Secondary magic, magical operations, concoct potions,
artificer, brewerlvintner (Thaecian nectar), enchant items, inscribe
spells.
EQUIPMENT/POSSESSIONS: Diaphanous gossamer robes,
gossamer purse and shoulder pouch, silver bound spell book, 1-4
amber crystal vials (potions) and spheres (Thaecian orbs), flask of
Thaecian nectar.
WEALTH: d20 x 100 gold lumens in mixed coins and/or gemstones.
COMMENTS: Thaecians are devout pleasure-seekers who shun
hard work in favor of more pleasant pastimes. They are enamored
of magic, and are partial to Thaecian nectar, a drink noted for its
exotic flavor and exhilarating properties.

Yeee Haaawwww!!! Thaecian Enchanters sound fucking awesome!:D

My Rainbow Thrall Warrior needs a hot Kang girlfriend! Imagine having a relationship with one of them? Talk about being hard-bodied and smoking hot--so wonderful and sweet when things are good--but with a deep, crazy violent temper that can send her into a zero to sixty TREX mode in seconds, while revealing the temperament of a rattlesnake.

Hmmm...my apologies. I'm stuck in weird memories of one of my ex Latina girlfriends!:D

Part of me wants to give your party a salt flats catamaran racer, with red iron wheels, so as to travel The Barrens. ;) But can I trust you players to do dramatic & irresponsible things with it as PCs?

Also, before I go too nuts gifting you crazy things, I need a survey of desired expectations. We'll grade some aspects 1 thru 10, ten being highest and or most frequent. Next I'll compile and average them, then weigh in my GM desires. Finally we will talk about 'em so we'll be closer to the same page of expectations. :)

Survey of What I Want as a Player

Moral Contrast, Things are: 1 (muddy grey) to 10 (stark black & white)

Humor, Things are: 1 (mirthless) to 10 (irreverent)

Brightness, Things are: 1 (hopeless) to 10 (care bears)

Violence, Things are: 1 (UN potluck) to 10 (41st Cen., only war)

Grounded, Things are: 1 (insurance actuarials) to 10 (gonzo frothy bubbles)

Other Aspirations, finish the sentence: As a player I look forward to my PC ____-ing ________________!

Thanks for humoring me, everyone. :) I do this so we can "same page" ourselves and do that social give and take (or politely bow out early).

As for me I am:

Contrast 6 = more interested in a defined line -- not exploring deeper sub-text, neuroses, subverted expectations, etc.

Humor 5 = albeit, this will be hard for me, but few things help comedy than a great straight man to bounce jokes off. I wanna play the setup, let you drop the punchline. I will try to be the Roger Moore James Bond to your antics.

Bright 7 = Blue skies in games! Less crap in the sack! There's hope for sexy fun time, more, more, more! (how do you like it? how do you like it?)

Violence 8 = This is unusually high for me, but I want that late 1970s - early 1980s fantasy movie vibe, which means welcoming that raging pubescent drive we remember.

Grounded 9 = I so want frothy gonzo bubbles because dancefloor fashion is anything but practical, and moreso from that music genre and time period. It also allows me to more "Rule of Cool" a setting I am less familiar with. :o

As a GM I look forward to my PCs giving me Conan & Taarna (Heavy Metal) realness in a disco fevered dream.
-------------

Doing a straight average, counting myself at same value as players, here are the averages:

Contrast = 4.75 =~ 5
Humor = 5.2 =~ 5
Brightness = 7
Violence = 8.2 =~ 8
Grounded = 7.6 =~ 8

OK, we got ourselves a rough snapshot! :) Anything people wanna talk about, appeal, or renegotiate?

Design by committee always sucks, but this is an overview average. The game will naturally fluctuate depending on scenario context. Further I value feedback so that I can get a sense of when to lean into another player's fun -- helps me change up the ride and keep things spicy! :D

Other than that, on to chargens (and finishing touches for those ahead of the class! :p) and the group's reason for being!

I assume mise-en-scene (middle of the scene), that you know each other and are reasonably not murderous to one another. That said, I totally dig a "Lawrence of Arabia" entrance scene, a salt flat racer taking time to come into shot of a waiting PC in billowing robes in the foreground... :D

Responding to your invite.  Sounds interesting.  I think a Zandir Charlatan would make a fine addition to the party.  Emphasis on "party".  Because that's what he likes to do.  Party.  A lot.

I figure in the interest of time, I'll just start with the description in the handbook and build from there.
Title: "Do the Shuffle!": a Talislanta Sword & Planet Disco Fantasia
Post by: Griphammer on July 21, 2020, 07:48:42 PM
Name:  Tadius
Profession: Zandir Charlatan
Homeland: The city of Zir in Zandir
Background:  Tadius was the son of a fairly wealthy elixer merchant but disdained the idea of becoming a merchant himself.  His older brothers could take over the family business.  Tadius spent his youth gambling and pursuing a hedonistic lifestyle for the most part, taking time to occasionally dabble in a bit of the arcane.  Tadius also became a frequently seen figure at parties, fetes, and other soirees with a different ladyfriend at each attended event.
When not engaged in social romps, Tadius' father forced him to endure the rigors of education, particularly about subjects pertaining to the family business.  Thus did Tadius learn the arts of brewing elixers of many sorts and gained the knowledge of the ingredients necessary for creating  successful and effective concoctions.
Tadius ran afoul of a young noble of Zir and found himself on the run.  Indulging in licentious behaviour with the noble's fiance wasn't the most intelligent decision Tadius ever made, but he was drunk, she was willing, and it was fun.  So there.  Anyway, after escaping the young noble and his entourage of sycophants, Tadius found himself stowed away on board a vessel departing the harbor out of Zir and on the way to adventure.  Or whatever.
Moral Contrast: 3
Humor, Things are: 8
Brightness, Things are: 5
Violence, Things are: 4
Grounded, Things are: 8
Other Aspirations, finish the sentence: As a player I look forward to my PC partying , womanizing, conning, embezzling, etc, and surviving the consequences of it all.

OK guys, keep working on your character generation! Feel free to use a template, too (hint hint, doc sammy: Danuvian Battle Woman).

Seems we need a PC write-up for: doc sammy & insubordinate polyhedral.

And keep it simple, no deep system stress or weighed choices, this is frothy fun as a start. Also don't feel obliged to make a deep background -- we probably won't even touch a tenth of it during play! :( Play by Posts can be very slow and survive on enthusiastic momentum! :D

Keep the spirits up and I will start the IC (In-Character) & OOC (Out-of-Character) Topics by the end of this weekend!

Meanwhile... another video of Topo & Roby "Under the Ice"!

Yes, that song's the disco fever dream. That haloed lighting as if your vision is blurring from recreational pharmaceuticals & onrushing hormones! :D Its magic works like the night before from a one-night-stand: hazy, luminous, euphoric, and utterly embarrassing in the harsh light of day!

 Just like anyone familiar with the scene, no one invites each other to a show because we know to expect you there! :D No worries insubordinate polyhedral, they shall find you in a discotheque yonder, who knows whether in peril or not!?

SHARK, :) you know I honestly have yet to give it much thought. The fastidious part of me wants to comb through the 2e core sets and find the canonical answer; a cheeky part of me wants to say "No, but they have chermoya, kumquats, & rambutan. Plus weaponized durian. :p"; and the roll-with-the-punches improv GM part of me shrugs and says fuck it, on with the show & let's see if you can find out! :D It's a fluid, ungrounded, brain foggy quality that keeps one coming back for more!

(edit: As for the beasts of burden mangonel lizards, a quick word search through my three 2e books don't elaborate on them beyond mechanics as a domesticated steed. So I'll say they cannot vocalize, but understand a Draknarian (continent of Draknar) dialect of sapient gruntish Talislan with a declanating snort over typically umlauted vowels. ;) Better?)

Thanks for the tip, Griphammer! And good to hear you like my cheeky sense of humor, SHARK! Who wants to help the other players scribble up their character generation, like Doc Sammy's Danuvian Battle Woman?

I'd like a simplified PC Sheet that you yourself transfer onto the IC Topic, as close to 5"x7" index card as possible.

Though Danuvian females can procreate only with males of their own race, they actively seek males of other races, whom they prefer as consorts. As such, there is a market for handsome male slaves in the city of Danuvia.

Players, within 48 hours:
1. Put your Simplified PC Sheet on the IC topic.

2. Tell me if your PC is starting at:
a) the Salt Racer Catamaran
b) the Akbir Depot

By the end of this weekend:
3. Build party cohesion as Salt Catamaran restocks supplies before heading out.

4. I will drop rumors about opportunities out in The Barrens; choose one together and go forth.

:) By next Monday, August 3rd, the Salt Catamaran sails off from Akbir onto Adventure!

Ghandus visits any nearby taverns, and enjoys some cold drinks. Ghandus invites newly found companions to enjoy a cold drink and have a look around Akbir.

Am I rushing you guys? :o

I thought 48 hours would keep the momentum, but this is a trying rpg medium and these are trying times. :) Let me know if you want a more leisurely pace, and what sort of pace that would be. (Maybe 72 hrs {3 days}, 96 hrs {4 days} feels more organic?)

Let another 48 hours pass to chat, bond, and decide where to go next. By this coming Wednesday, Aug 5th, I will go with the adventure that attracted the most IC interest.

(Meanwhile I will interact and flesh out play with those who post. :D Come in the water and swim, we only sometimes maybe bite!)

Do you want some ack-shone? :D Wanna give it, wanna get some, too?

Sure!

Be quick about the PC and you can be a random ally of circumstance in the upcoming battle! They are about to have the equivalent of a backwater desert airport luggage hangar burst into free-for-all melee. You too can be a victim to shenanigans if you hurry! :p

Posting this so you can check to see if I got this right.

Astlumia Ajmo

DHUNA WITCHWOMAN
SIZE: 5'8", 120 lbs.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Olive skin with long flowing raven black hair with a body so explosive that each of her steps is a nuclear blast.  The only flaw to her exterior is her scar across her face that she earned in battle.  Still she rocks it with her white wolf furs and black stone jewelry.
PERSONA: Cool and mysterious is her way.  Well till bring up the day that zealous knights and witch hunters of Aamon cross over Zandu borders only to waste her family.  Not powerful enough to get revenge she keeps that hot lava anger under a frozen exterior.  Booze and sex also helps.
ATTRIBUTES: DEX +1, INT +2, WIL +1, CHA +5
MAGIC RATING: +2
HIT POINTS: 14
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Kissing men can steal their hearts (roll vs Will Rating).
SKILLS: Secondary magic, combat training, concoct elixiers, healer, herb lore, tracking, snares, seduce, inscribe spells, barter, riding, literacy, concoct medicinal mixtures
LANGUAGES: Elder Tongue, Nomadic, High Talisian, Talisian, Archaen
EQUIPMENT/POSSESSIONS: cloak, frock, boots, scroll (holds spells), staff, pouch (holds up to four elixers), greymane steed
WEALTH: 100 worth of herbs and medicines

COMMENTS: A run away witch who lost everything at her homeland and is now seeking a new life.

I approve! :D Go ahead and post it in the IC Topic -- and then another post about your declared action! -- then we shall continue on!

I will add in the IC thread that your casual witness of the Zaran chattel woman casting a hex (jinx) freeing her people caught your attention. The people around her are causing chaos, almost as if to save her from a chattel life? But you have no idea their relationship -- especially since Zarans are likely to kill you as much as look at you when in these Wilderlands.

By the way, do you have any luggage to pick up at this hangar? :p

Oh SHARK, we can still keep your Mangonel lizard basking in the cargo net of the saltflat catamaran racer! It just cuts out on your ship's tonnage. Also she might attract a Mangonel stallion as they along with land lizards do roam The Barrens. But we'll cross that fun when we get to it! :D

Probably one luggage for clothes and the other for taking care of the Greymane Steed.

Title: "Do the Shuffle!": a Talislanta Sword & Planet Disco Fantasia
Post by: Opaopajr on August 16, 2020, 12:53:24 AM
Exits: a good 50 to 70+ yds for most of the easiest ones. This is closer to our modern airport hangar with stone pillars, hence why Akmir is considered a weird and poor fortification. (Talislanta literally has a 10+ lane mega suspension bridge crossing the Dear River by Danuvia... think post-apocalyptic fantasy.)

Dancers: Most of them are like Solid Gold Dancers, a mix of sexes, generally beautiful, quite a bit of costuming and make-up heavy lifting, and athletically healthy. They are usually on revoloving debt slavery contracts and fancy little prospects else than "being discovered!" due to their squishiness out in the dangerous, uncivil world. ;) Help yourself to one and someone's random luggage, no one sems to be resisting!

Spells: Depends on whether Primary, Secondary, or Magic Apprentic. I believe you are two learned spells, which is up to two memorized as well, and fixed upon selection until lvl up... But brb, I will read the relevant chaptwr again. :) Talislanta 2e PHB.

Where is the dice room?

EDIT: If there is no dice room than I just used wizard dice.  Which the spell roll is 19.

Roll(1d20)+1:
18,+1
Total:19

There is no resistance to beguile, but the suggestion has to be reasonable.  Which given that these dancers are in danger and most likely want to get out it seems pretty reasonable.  I just needed to give one a boost of encouragement.

Should we have Opaopajr roll everything for us in the future?

I prefer rolling my dice, but beyond that I agree.

Now I am wondering if my level one witch can do level two spells as I can use Metamorphosis to transform into werebeast form.  That way I want a combat form.

Well shit... I knew I was missing something. :o I used to use another website and have our own room to roll. Let me open one somewhere and return back. First round's free on the honor system, everybody! :D

site: rolz.org
room: Disco Talislanta

And thanks for asking about that Spinachcat, that was my next question. That said, I do prefer people rolling their own dice as it builds trust, even if it sacrifices time. It worked before and I would like it to work again.

But if everyone would like to vote now it would help clear the air! :) I think rolling your own dice in the official dice room withhin 3 days with autopilots afterwards is enough, but I want to hear the table's thoughts.

Hey all, I have to apologize but I must back out of the game.  I'd like to stick it out but there are too many issues I'm dealing with right now to concentrate on playing.  Tonight my wife has an MRI but the doctors haven't stated why exactly they ordered it.  Additionally, I have a daughter graduating from college and who will be moving back in with me for a while.  There are other obligations I'm dealing with but I don't want to go into too much detail.

Anyway, thanks for the invite to join in.  Do as you will with Tadius and have fun on the Disco floor.

Understandable "Tadius" Griphammer! :) Thanks for the update. And remember the door is always open to return.

I'm currently surrounded by fire, heatwave, and thunderstorms here in real life, so who knows how long I have! :D But fuck it, Disco Inferno my lovelies! "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire! We don't need no water, let the muthafucka burn! Burn, muthafucka, burn!" :p Dance like it's the end of the world!

As for rolls, thanks for the votes everyone! I will still let those who want to roll, roll (as I kinda enjoy the engagement & surprise myself too). But for Doc Sammy, Spinachcat, and SHARK, I will roll for you guys to keep things moving (unless it is so dramatic I feel it is an honor to test your own Destiny/Fate;)). Snowman, please feel free to keep rolling on the rolz.org room and let's get back to the show! :)

Gve me a moment as I have to get my affairs, and firebox, in order just in case I need to run for my life. ;) Brb!

Take care of yourself Opa! As my mom is still on the Peninsula, we've been monitoring the NorCal firestorms that have never happened before, could never have been predicted, and surely could not have been considered a possible issue by our fine rulers in Sacramento. If you haven't already, consider getting an ionizer or air purifier. Or a druid with high level weather magic.

I still live! :)

As for the area, yeah, fire ecology and cultural penchant for building out into hilly hinterland. Awkward exchange, property value gives, weather takes. :D And yes we still have Sharper Image ionizers! (But what I really want is also an air conditioner... :()

Oh, and thanks for everyone's patience! Talislanta is surprisingly easy now that I am running it with a fine-toothed comb, but the tabulation is a bit front-loaded.

Yes they are, SHARK. (BTW, your inbox is full, no more messages until more space.)

Anyone else have ideas on the Shields thing? I can see it as an [item life meter] but that makes them stupid powerful until I designate a Protection value. I could just leave it at 1, just like Leather/Fur. But those Max HP values don't happen in a single blow's damage until you get into seige weaponry territory. :o

It doesn't come up -- yet. But it will. And it otherwise hinders non-coms trying to grab a quick improv cover and flee towards safety.

Maybe I should throw this question up on the Talislanta topic too. ;)

Not rude at all, arcanuum!  :)  The more the merrier! And considering a cosmopolitan caravanserai hangar is currently emptying out from a literal disco inferno, now might be one of the best times to hop in!

We're using Talislanta 2e, and currently in the Wastelands (Western section, centered around The Barrens at the moment). The party is currently making a break from the chaos they instigated -- out of the frying pan and into the fire already -- so we can slip you right in.  ;D  Make a PC soon and let's stow you away on a madcap cruise into post-apoc fantasy!

Sounds good, arcanuum!  :)  We could always use a captain who is relearning Navigation/Piloting for Dracartan Land Ships during on-the-job training! Don't change a thing: you'll still 1/2 your Nav/Piot rolls but I'll just dampen the crit failures a tad.  8)  This way I'll have the motley-est of crews to GM!

Quick bookkeeping question: Would you ever so mind if I post up your simplified PC data in the IC's first post? That way it won't be lost in the sea of posts forthcoming, just in case for easy GM and fellow PC reference (such as name, size, look, dress, etc.). :)

edit: Well, poop. :( I cannot edit that post anymore. Seems like that feature was lost in the transition of this new board software.

OK, I guess you'll have to post your PC within the IC topic. Give it a few days just in case we are at a page break for some people. And welcome to the show!  8)

And of course Buubi.

:o That must have taken ages to find such stunning matches!  ;D I appreciate the extra effort in seeking verisimilitude, and hope everyone else does too.

:-[ I honestly don't know. I poked you all, current, past, and new players because a lot of time passed with my ER, surgery procedure, and recovery.  :) We are doing our best and giving people time to come back after a very large unplanned GM absence.

You guys wanna poke some people, too?  ;D

Also, last big post showed rumors for sidequest runs before continuing onto the NPCs' requested rendesvous point. Any interest or moving merrily along?

Hope you all had a chance to say your fun rejoinders!  8) We're gonna soon start the second phase of the "blissin' out!" -- now with salt devils!  ;D

Your PCs'll be high as a kite for about half a day, but being high comes in different shades of functional. That's why I divided it into four stages, with the next three stages being quite playable (and the first stage weaponizable, wink, wink! ;)). For those who need an acting prompt ("what's my character motivation?") think: sensationally enhanced, yet still under the influence.

You guys did great, using IC logical responses to a bucket of unknowns.  :) I hope you do not feel I am unjustly surprising you. Just rolling probability of 'landport' drug deals gone wrong (very 70's & disco) while you guys lit up that hangar.  ;)

The Ride phase is gonna feel like everything just works! You're invincible, connected to the greater cosmos, fated to succeed, and all is wonderful even if staring down the face of nightmares. It's a loving oneness and overconfidence and 'in the zone' awareness... and a very real psychological attraction to these physiological benefits. It's the functional rush where you know you're performing better than you typically do. 8)

Haaave fuuun~!  :o ;D
