This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WoC published 3 books and a box game back in Y2K. Does anyone have it, and can we play it in here? I call Necromancer!

I have the 2e Diablo book and its a great reference book. I don't know how playable RAW / AS IS it may be, but hot damn, I loved the book and used it for a major campaign and two mini campaigns plus several convention one shots using OD&D and some homebrewing.

The monsters are cool, the spells rock, but the classes are a tad wonky. The "flaw" is the AS IS game is just a meaningless monster bash - aka, just like the game - and that doesn't fly at the table as well. However, if you delve into any of the Diablo lore using the mega-fuckton of online info, its stupid easy to create lots of story elements and roleplay opportunities in the setting.

Homebrew WORX for me! How would you feel about hosting a session online using your old notes?

It could be fun, but unfortunately I am next deep in work crap and my free time focus is finishing my RPG project.  PM me and I will send you my rough drafts of Diablo stuff that I used for the game.

So, I just found this site on a Google search for something unrelated. But there was a Diablo game ad at the top, so I had no choice but to register. It looks like there hasn't been any action here for awhile, but if there's still interest, I may be up for running a game. I'm a huge fan of Diablo and Diablo II. I prefer to think Diablo III is an AU, but it's a fun game when I stop thinking about what it did to my favorite franchise's story. I will say that I've seen the 2e AND 3e Diablo material, and none of it was every very satisfying for me. I've got a number of ideas for some homebrew alterations to a d20 chassis (my preference being Pathfinder) and a number of ideas for plots to run, if there's interest.

I'm totally willing to give this a go as Necromancer only. I like summoning skels. I'd reserve Bone shield and Poison dagger for when the baddies get too close.
We need a few more players!

Cool! Yes, we would definitely need more players.

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote my previous post. While I love Pathfinder, I had previously conclusively determined that 4e was almost certainly the best chassis to emulate Diablo. So, assuming we can get more players, we'd have to decide how we want to do it. If you all just want a gritty hack-and-slash fest with a Diablo theme, I've got some ideas for mechanically generating randomly-seeded dungeons. However, I'm more interested in narrative games, and would even be interested in running something mapless if people were into that. I've got plenty of ideas for an original story that takes place after the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction that diverges from Diablo III. It would also be interesting to explore what else might be happening in the world concurrent with the events of the second game. If we get some more interest, I'll throw up a couple of proposals to see what people are interested in.

Hey if I can RPG a Nec summoning Skels (and Zombifying assholes that deserve it), I'm good!
