Any interest in a Traveller game?

I haven't tried a PbP game in ages, and there has been some recent discussion of Traveller Character Creation and such - anyone up for a game? LBB rules, Spinward Marches - old school suckas!

Post up any interest here and we'll see if there's enough to get something rolling.

Oh hell, I'm in a bit of a dry season with my group, so I give this PbP thing a try.

I don't own the LBBs, though, so I might need some assistance of the character-rolling and rules-compreheding sort.

Benoist

Yeah, I don't own the LBBs either, but I give in to peer pressure. I'm in.

There are a couple of decent online character generators for LBB characters, so Google away. Rules are very simple, and it's all 2d6 based, we can explain things as we go to the newbies.

Any specific or general questions about the background of the Spinward Marches, what there is to do, etc. or do we all have a pretty good handle on that? Also, looking for a structured adventure-style game or more sandboxy?

Is this one OK?

I have a vague understanding of the Third Imperium setting, but a bit of background on the Spinward Marches would be nice (I remember a bunch of Frontier Wars with the Zhodani. Is that right?). Any good online texts on that?

Regarding sandbox vs. structure, I'm a huge sandbox enthusiast, but I'm not sure how one pulls this via PBP. I'd love to see it, though ;)

Yup, used it all the time back in the day.

http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Spinward_Marches_Sector is a good place to start - and there is SO much material out there, you could read for months. :)

Traveller is actually very sandboxy (or can be) - you get a crew, get a ship, get a cargo or Patron, and off ya go. No telling what kind of trouble you might get into.

So we basically have the crew and ship, we know who hired us to do what, at least to start, and from there we're launched into the unknown? That sounds great to me.

Games I've run in the past covered everything from finding the secrets of vanished alien civilizations to uncovering sabotage at a high-tech speedboat race on a waterworld, and everything inbetween. You can hunt exotic animals, prospect, play straight-up traders, be shady smugglers, work covertly (or overtly) for or against the Imperium or any of a half-dozen factions in or near the Marches - sometimes all in the same game. Traveller really is a cool game/setting/concept.

Hendricks is a loud mouth, an asshole, but a damn fine marine. He's a professional ass-kicker, and he loves that about his job. Boo-ya.

Oh, and sandbox all the way. Trading and scaring up patrons ae among the best reasons to play Traveller.

Any of the basic series books are fine. To keep it simple, let's avoid Mercenary and High Guard - level characters, however.
