This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Any interest in a Traveller game?

Pirate Corporal 779967  Age 26  2 Terms  Cr 10000
Brawling-1, Ship Tactics-1, Streetwise-3, Tactics-1

This was my first spin of the wheel, just testing the system. I have no idea, really, if that was within bounds (from the link given).  I picked pirate because I wanted a guy who had just spent his time out on the ragged edge his whole life. Seems like he's missing some details (background events? honestly, should have clicked verbose).

So: We got a young kid (in trav terms). Got a good head for a fight, instincts on the ground and in space, but mostly he just knows his way around the seedier side of town... or the space port.  Not a perfect match, but I wasn't looking for something specific.  If I read the UPP correctly, he's kept his nose officially clean, and he is tough and smart but a bit unlettered?

So.

Aron Dvosky,  grew up on the fringe, out on the frontier and in space. He's never considered himself a criminal, never put much thought into wether the Imperium liked what he and his mates did.  He's served on ships, of course, but despite his quick wits he's been muscle.  Bored with being the 'dumb lug in the corner', he cuts his own deals and plans his own future.

But every time he tries to play by the rules he runs into grey faced beaurocrats and pompous nobles, with their rules and their clubs and their connections, and since Aron has never been the sort to let anyone tell him what he couldn't do, he's gone off and done things where he has the connections and the rules favor him.

He's a sharp thinker, doesn't look like it, doesn't talk like it, but his mind is aways spinning. He might almost be thought a philosopher of the streets, looking at the systems of laws not as the underpinnings of society, or some monumental edifice but as the often arbitrary rules of a rigged game.

And he means to win. Even if it means cheating.

Yes, no maybe?

Sounds good to me - I'm sure the 'Cap can find a spot on his crew for someone more skilled in the rougher-side of the business world, eh?

And I'm sure Aron would happily take the straight laced sucker for every... I mean teh good Captain's connections and beaurocratic ledger... I mean... yeah. Money. Its good. Contacts better, ey? As long as both are incoming, then everything is blinking green.

"I want chrome."

"Where?"

"EVERYwhere."

Quote from: Werekoala;513510Speaking of which, what type of ship you going to have?
I'll go with the far trader (type A2, Empress Marava-class), unles you want me to go subbie instead

Quote from: Werekoala;513513One more thing - I know there is a TON of information available for the "canon" Imperium and such, but I am NOT going to rely on that for this game. . . . So, if something I post conflicts with what you "know" about Traveller - deal. :)
First Rule of Traveller: Canon is whatever comes out of the referee's mouth.

Or keyboard, in this case.

I like him already.

Love the Marava - probably my all-time favorite, so that'll work peachy.

Funny you just posted, Black Vulmea... I totally had this wonky idea that Aron might have seen a post for a medic and showed up for the job with a load of black market (but otherwise legit?) MEDICINE...

He may, or may not, have copped to the idea of 'being the dude who supplies the feel-goods' as the kinds of medics he's familiar with, depending on how well he faked his way through the interview....

I thought I'd be pitching it in jest to werekoala, but there you are, mister 'I'll incorporate!" himself...

I've added a Resource Page to consolidate links and such for the game. Also added a stat link, picture and deckplan for the ship.

Well, Cap'n Buzz is Streetwise-2, so he's always interested in the right contacts in the wrong part of town.

Don't let the corporate positioning fool you. He's Vilani, which means he's a member of a culture of cutthroat bureaucrats. He's the insider trader, the vulture capitalist.

Apparently, by making it to two terms as a pirate, this guy was living a charmed life... been playing with the autogenerator... seen some nice stats, but everyone else ended a 1 termer, and some were daid!

"So, Cap'n, you can hire me. I've got 500 units of Diachloraperflorate, 1000 units of Hydroxipone, and 800 units of that new experimental antiviral Hestpernastate... plus a hundred liters of liquid skin bandage.  Or you can hire some other guy who has a fancy diploma from someplace sayin' he knows a guy's blood belongs in his body and not pumpin' out all over the floor.

Hell, I know that.

Waddaya say, eyo?"

(also, a complete set of medical reference books... um... to keep the skills sharp. yeah.)

OOC thread, if we wanna move next door, and for behind-the-scenes type stuff.

Also, a Character Thread so we can have everyone's final characters all in one place. Feel free to come up with really detailed backgrounds if you want - I can help the newbs if you want worlds of origin and such - not terribly important, since Traveller is by nature a game of trading transients (as opposed to murder hobos), but it is a nice touch.

Right. I'm mostly joking around over here, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction for when I'm not...

If I seem a bit silly, its almost two in the morning for me. Friday night as long as I don't look at the calendar...
