This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Edit: moved it here so as not to clutter up the IC thread....

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;294476
The version I have says this:
"Warrior's surge (Standard, usable only while bloodied, encounter) * Healing
The orc bolt thrower makes a melee basic attack and regains 6 hit points."

I interpreted it literally- there's no mention of a hit. Anyhow, at 6 hp, I think it's fairly tame.

hmm... there must be some errata on that power then, because the in the MM, under the orc racial traits, the power specifically states that a healing surge can only be expended on a successful hit.

Here it is:

Warrior’s Surge Orc Racial Power
Spilling the blood of your enemy invigorates you.
Encounter ✦ Healing, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage, and you can spend a healing surge.
Increase to 2[W] + Strength modifier damage at 21st level.

The bolded text is my emphasis.

hmm... I just checked out the lastest errata (01/2009) for the MM on the WotC site and I cannot find any errata regarding the Warrior's Surge power.  What is the above source that you quoted?

Look, I'm not trying to be a dick here, I just want to make sure that I have it correct in my mind for future reference when I'm acting as DM or when I'm playing an orc character (I have an orc warlord), so it's important to me that I understand the power correctly.

If you rule as DM that the orc spends the healing surge even without a successful melee attack, then I'm cool with it- I just want to understand if it's RAW or a House Rule.  That's all. :)

Its actually a creature from the Compendium (I think it originally appears in some Dungeon adventure), so it's based on the same monster as the orc in the MM but different. I just took the base writeup and copied it as-is. The version I have has nothing about hitting.

So yeah, it probably is supposed to hit, but the writeup in this case didn';t state that, and this being a very casual game, and it being only 6 hp, I thought I would just drive on...

Thanks for pointing it out though!

Interesting.... there is some potential for confusion then between the Compendium and the core books it seems.  I actually don't subscribe to DDI, so I don't have the Compendium as a reference.

Yeah, it's all good.:)   The 6 HP was not the concern, really.

Here's a partial overland map. You may ignore parts of it. I am actually using the same setting for this little game in another group (perhaps you'll run across each other..). I completed this for my real-life group but I thought I would share.

I had originally avoided doing a lot of visuals at first out of laziness (and possibly because I was dared not to at least in the case of miniatures..)

DeadUematsu may recognize the Korrgard caves from my old AD&D campaign. They have a slightly new story now, but the old maps were simply too good to waste. (Raven's Hollow if it exists, would be west, through the valley.)

You guys are up in the northwest, in the very center of the blight zone.

Sweet map! :D  If you don't mind me asking, what program did you do it with?

Visuals are always helpful, and this helps me envision the environs in my mind's eye.  This really helps me get my immersion fix.  Gratzie!

I tried a bunch of mapping programs and eventually gave up and did it by hand in Paint Shop Pro.

Paint Shop Pro?  Wow, that's cool.  I guess I'll have to see if I can pick it up for cheap somewhere.  that's pretty damn cool.

Maybe I can put up a tutorial.. my method is pretty primitive, actually. I use the lasso tool to select sections of terrain and "bevel edges" to create elevations. the trees are stock paint tubes. The blight effect was just some doodling around and a mosaic filter. the titles and stuff are all on a separate layer.

This is a test only:

[dice]1d20[/dice]

Darn, didn't work.  I just read the sticky thread here in the PbP forum and it said that dice could be rolled in posts, and I was testing it out.

That would have been awesome. That post actually dates back before the forum itself changed hands. Play By Post lay ignored for several months before anyone here noticed it.

Hehehe... yup, Fargrim doesn't have a high Will Defense.:o  He was lucky in the order (i.e. initiative), a la Willam Munny.

========================================================

Proposed Loot Divvy:

Well, the 4 moonstones and silver wire are worth 240 gold total.  If we divide that evenly, it comes out to 48 gold each.

Unless the stones are special or magical, is this cool with everyone?
