While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). It did finally complete installation this morning after I restarted my pc although I haven't had time to see if it actually works or not.  It shouldn't be this hard to install what should be a rather simple program.  They should have hired java programmers, not these lame .net bozos.

Some background:

Your characters start in the remote village of Perreluna, on the outskirts of the Hekat Valley.

Perreluna is known for it's production of herbal medicines, rare teas, and natural dyes. Weavers and Rug-makers also ply their trade here, and every month or so when the mountain trails are clear of snow, a caravan of wagons appears in town and there is a fair.

Not far from Perreluna, on the far side of the stream that runs through the valley, there is a legendary tower that only seems to appear on the nights of the full moon. Few of the townsfolk have approached the tower, and most people feel that it is cursed.

Last year, a large group of foreigners- adventurers calling themselves the League of the Emerald Lotus-- appeared along with the caravan and began asking around about the invisible tower. Then, one morning,  they mounted up and rode towards it.

The day after the Emerald Lotus left, there was a great explosion in the valley. The sky darkened, and there was a strange rain of hissing tar-like oil.

Soon afterwards the undead attacks began; orcs and bandits from the worst regions of the Hekat were drawn to the area. Trade caravans have been fewer and less often.

Now a region of unnatural necrotic blight extends for about a mile radius all along the eastern end of the valley. The area is crawling with undead, and various monstrosities that are both unnatural and obscene. The tower itself is no longer invisible; it lies in shattered rubble at the center of the blight.

Mountain shepherds claim the blight is growing.. extending itself. Nobody knows why, and many people would leave Perreluna if it were safe to do so, or the ruin could be investigated to find out what went on there.

Perreluna won't last another winter without your help.

So.. how to play, how to do combat, XP, all of that.

I'd rather have people feel like they can write their 'turns' and responses without becoming authors. So don't feel obligated to put in a lot of prose. Whatever you feel like is fun for you is fine.

In combat, feel free to post a general description of your tactics for 2 or 3 rounds so we don't have to go turn by turn unless it's absolutely necessary.

Let's say I am playing Glyph (the sample PC I made in the early posts up above): I might say "Glyph stays back from the combat and uses his Vanguard's Lightning to punish the goblins.. and when he identifies the toughest one, he unleashes his Astral Terror.."

You can use the description line in the compendium or out of the book as inspiration if you like.

You will be ROLLING for your own attacks though: Use invisible castle's dice roller for this: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/

Fill in your name and make your rolls! I will also be linking my own rolls so you can see if I am cheating or fudging.

Because of the nature of online gaming, I will probably post the DCs to certain skills or skill challenges openly, so you will know if you made it or not.

Just copy the "link to roll" link from the page you roll on and paste it in the post somewhere.

So at the bottom of a post Glyph might have something like

Quote
Vanguards Lightning: 21
Vanguards Lightning: 6
Astral Terror: 8

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1966168/

I'll just use the compendium to lookup the powers.

XP awarded after every combat.

AM,

Being a dwarf, would've Fargrim grown up in the village of Perreluna?  Is he a recent arrival to the village?  Is he a foreigner or native?  Or would there be dwarven holds somewhere in or near the Hekat Valley?

The Hekat Valley is placed between two mountain ranges, and there's no reason he couldn't also be a traveller or simply native to Perreluna. So it's up to you.

This pretty much goes for every character; you can decide.

We have 3 posted characters, and when I get a 4th, we'll start!

Coolio.  I'll think about and write a paragraph or two back story.

If we absolutely need a cleric I'm willing to play one instead of the rogue, just let me know... both would be new classes for me in 4e.

AM,

How about this for Fargrim's back story:

The dwarven clan Copperpot's hold is located in one of the mountain ranges surrounding the Hekat Valley.  Clan Copperpot relies heavily on the market and fairs of the village of Perreluna.  The dwarves of Copperpot Hold enjoy and depend on the goods and services traded in the village of Perreluna.  Consequently, the current situation in Perreluna has become a serious concern for the elders of Clan Copperpot, and how to deal with it.

Fargrim is the second nephew to the Copperpot Thane, and was present at the discussions regarding the necrotic blight that plagues the village of Perreluna and environs.  Being fairly young, and looking to make a name for himself since the possibility of succession is slim, Fargrim volunteered to go to Perreluna to assess and neutralize the source of the necrotic blight.

That sounds great!

The blight at first did not seem to affect Copperpot Hold -- and many of the dwarven clan grumpily declared that this was really just a human problem, and would have nothing to do with it. And then, last month, the blight expanded into an area at the foot of the mountains that happened to have been the location of a dwarven burial ground. A week ago, a legion of dwarven and orcish skeletons clawed their way out of the ground and through their burial cairns and began wandering around the foothills...

...After which the Copperpot Clan packed your bags for you and sent you off to investigate.

Hmm... I just noticed that DDI Character Builder miscalculated Fargrim's AC.  Fargrim is wearing chainmail and has the tempest build, which means he has the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, and he is wielding a double-axe.

Right now, his AC should be 17 (chainmail +6, feat +1) but the DDI character sheet is showing only an AC of 11.

I am going to review all the calculations on the character sheet now to make sure they're correct.

Just an FYI- you guys may want to check the numbers if you used the DDI Character Builder to create your character.

This is the OOC utility thread for Beneath the Invisible Tower, a 4E play by post thingy.

We are in recruiting! Please post if you would like to play.

So in this thread, you can find out how to make a character, post a copy of your character, see maps and other stuff, and so on.

Ok, to get in, just say so: I'll take the first 6 players, and start once we get 4.

For convenience we will be using the character builder.

The character builder is located here:
http://www.wizards.com/download.asp?filename=700_DDI_CB.exe

Okay I tried to download that - but each time I do - my browser blocks it as a security risk. Should I override my computer and tell it to loow ?
