This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Servants of Gaius] Campaign intro information
« on: November 26, 2011, 01:53:22 PM »
* This is the page for information on the Servants of Gaius setting. Since everyone has a copy of the manuscript I will assume you all know the basics of the game.

Setting
Year: 38 AD (791 Ab urbe condita) the year of the consulships of Julianus and Asprenas.
Place: Rome
Emperor: Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus "Caligula"
The campaign will start in Rome but could span to the edges of the empire. The PCs are all members of the Servants of Gaius (see below).

The City of Rome
There is information on the city of Rome in the Servants of Gaius manuscript (Chapter IX: Caligula's Rome). Here are some links to websites with information on the city.

Maps

Background
Within the last month each of you have been recruited into a secret organization called the Servii Gaii (feel free to PM me or email me if you want to work out the specifics of why your character was brought in---for those you sent characters I have a pretty good idea about the reasons they recruited you). You were individually brought before the Praetorian Prefect, Naevius Sutorius Macro, and questioned about your backgrounds and loyalties. About a week later you are to be initiated into the organization together as Servants belonging to the same cell.

During your interview with Macro he explained that the Empire is under threat from the cult of Neptune and that the Servants of Gaius are part of an effort to root out the sea god's minions. He also informed you that most likely your services would first be needed somewhere in Africa (but he couldn't tell you where until later). There you will investigate for signs of the cult's activity and be aided by a contact (a former senator who has retired to the area).

If you have any questions you would like to ask Macro privately just send them via PM or Email, otherwise you were told by Macro to prepare for initiation in about a week (which is where the campaign starts).

Claudius is the uncle of Caligula and a member of the imperial family through his father, Drusus, who was Tiberius’ brother. He is lame in one foot and has a stutter. A student of history he fancies himself a historian.
