On G+ I saw a photo of a flyer that Pinnacle is giving out at Gen Con that shows a new line of Lankhmar books for Savage Worlds. If you get a chance can you see if they have any info on when these are coming out?

Yes! I was just about to mention Savage Lankhmar! Still trying to ascertain something on the date.

Wow, that's very very interesting!

We made it up there for Sunday, once again.

A few short notes:

  • I think the exhibit hall's extra section allowed it to grow by about 20-25%, and it was still packed.  That back section near the addition was extremely hard to get through. Whomever decided that the main card vendors should be there, next to the card playing area, should get a raise. I saw people go into the playing area, come out a while later, and go straight to the card vendors.
  • There were a lot more cosplayers than were there on Sunday last year.  While there were the pros --the Star Wars cosplayers around FFG, the Soda Pop minis woman, the Cosplay Deviants, the Vader/Gandalf/etc outside the halls-- there were a lot of amateur cosplayers who brought their A game. There was even a woman cosplaying the ranger from last year's Gen Con program book, which was very well done.
  • There seemed to be an increase in the LARP vendors this year. I'm sure someone probably got all huffy about corsets being too stereotypically feminine, but given the amount of steampunk cosplayers wearing them, people were just giving them what they wanted.
  • FFG and Paizo were selling out of their stock.  FFG had a staffer at the end of their entrance with a sign showing what products they were out of. Whatever people may think of the Star Wars RPG, they were completely sold out of the Beta for Force and Destiny.  Hell, there looked like a line to be able to demo the game.
  • They doubled the food trucks from last year, and I was told by my brother-in-law that they were still packed.
  • The kids' gaming area --the Training Grounds-- was packed with families trying out games.
  • I guess we were due for it because of the increase in size, but there was a lot more of that gamer stench than in the past several Sundays. Given the press of bodies I expected some sweat, but yeah, there were some catpiss people around.  My brother-in-law informed me that some people were smelling like that even on Thursday.
  • Cubicle Seven's vending area was extremely tough to get into and out of. I thought it was a tight fit at the Doctor Who area, but that was a walk in the park compared to the Cubicle Seven area.
  • Whenever I passed by the Geek Chic tables, a little part of me dies inside. Oh, to only win the lottery...
  • Shadows of Esteren was doing the business, as was Catalyst.  Green Ronin and the Trolls seemed to be okay in spurts, as was Flying Buffalo. The Runequest people seemed steady, but not really busy. What surprised me was that Monte Cook Games was slow, which surprised me since Numenera did well at the Ennies. FATE was steady, or so it seemed.
  • There were a lot of people demoing Queen Games, as well as Z-man and Days of Wonder.  Queen's products are too pure Euro for me to get into, but it was good to see that Days of Wonder had Mystery of the Abbey in stock.
  • Someone put together a town, similar to the large area pics that Zach showed above, for a zombie game. I'm still wishing I took a pic of it.
  • Hell, I wish that I'd taken a lot more pics of the games and the cosplayers, but I spent too much time taking it all in.

Indie Game Developer Network booth:

No release date yet on Lankhmar, Sixth Gun, Necessary Evil 2, or Weird War I, but it sounds like a pretty full schedule.

Love the Warmachine setup every year:

The CritSuccess booth was mobbed every day, every time I went past. I'm pretty sure people were just throwing money at them.

So, that's it for now. My apologies for everything I didn't get to--I have a lot of photos I haven't gone through yet, so I might post a bit more, and tomorrow I'll have a link to my "Best of Gen Con".

As online-savvy as we all are, a big part of Gen Con for me is finding out about stuff I had no idea existed, or just hadn't paid attention to before. That's part of the reason I don't mind running around with a camera for 3 or 4 days--I want everyone to see all the cool stuff and get a feel for Gen  Con, but in the process I see plenty of cool stuff myself.

Quote from: Zachary The First;780353So, for all the good at Gen Con, there's also a booth advertising some sort of furry erotica game. I am really, really glad this shot is a little blurry, but this seriously has to go against some standard of Gen Con, and possibly the universe:

FWIW, this wasn't there on Sunday.  The 3000 means it was waaay back in the corner of the new area, and my wife and I spent some time down that way where some of the Kickstarter backed games were.  I hadn't even realized I'd not seen it until I went back to check your pics again.

Zack, I noticed on Sunday that the Looking for Group RPG booth was really busy.  Did you see that on the other days?

They were only there for Friday and Saturday.

Did they run True Dungeon at the con this year?

Yes, and I heard it was it's usual fun self.

Moderately. I remember passing by it Friday, I think, and noticing a pretty solid crowd, but I was on my way to somewhere else, and couldn't get a decent pic.

Honestly, with whatever the bump was in attendance this year, I had to fight hard for pics in several instances.

My brother-in-law said he'd heard rumors of 70k, but I don't think it got that high.  But boy were the thoroughfares crowded, even into the afternoon on Sunday when typically things start to thin out a bit.

That's one thing I'm going to mention tomorrow; I thought placement on some of the large booths where there's obviously going to be a line could have been much better. But, hey, I suppose that's something to bring up for next year.
