This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Threshold in BECMI. Luckily missed that totally till much much later.
and.
Neverwinter in FR. Didnt like the king. Didnt like the people. Didnt like the naming convention, as ever. Something about that one place just kept rubbing me the wrong way.

i dont have any citys i dont like but that may be because growing up in the country and still being stuck there just the idea of living in the city entrances me and makes me easy to please:(
If your having tier problems i feel bad for you son i got 99 problems but caster supremacy aint 1.

Apology\'s if there is no punctuation in the above post its probably my autism making me forget.

ostap bender

sigil

faces of sigil is probably the prettiest d&d book ever.

Prairie Dragon

Waterdeep.  Game Mastered many, many sessions for many, many characters there.  Obviously, Skullport comes in second.  Used it all the time too.

for city types in general of course you cant beat drow citys

If not Lankhmar, then yeah, I guess the City-State, though that one also feels a slight bit like cheating.

Black Vulmea

Sad to see no love for Manifest - Ghostwalk's approach to 'I [strike]see[/strike] play dead people' was meh, but a city that sits above the entrance to the afterlife is a fascinating concept.

Sigil is certainly my favorite.

Since I still have my Menzoberranzan box, I do have a fondness for drow cities.

Another favorite would probably be Specularum, mostly because Karameikan culture is neat.

I like Waterdeep in Forgotten Realms and I like the Free and Independent City of Dyvers in Greyhawk more than I actually like the Free City of Greyhawk.

Sigil

Other's  I have affection for:

Threshold

City of Glass (Elemental Plane of Water)

Senaliesse (Feywild) or Sylvania (Outlands).

Glorium (Outlands)

 Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter

Skullport and Menzoberranzan have also been growing on me of late.

I would have included this but I thought it was a town and not a city. I used Threshold as my starting point for Mine of Phandelver, which I set in Karameikos. First 5e game I ran.

Of course Waterdeep city of splendors , so much material to use, Baldurs gate has a place at my table, because 5th edition D&D brought it to life for me, but I remember Greyhawk back in the day, my favorite city would have to be Sigil berk, love to Planeswalk , rubbing shoulders with good and evil outsiders, there is just so much going on with the factions , so many magic items from everywhere, kind of a more detailed City of Brass for buying magic items.

Dumarest

I was never really into D&D. The only "city" I remember was Threshold from the Basic set. Or was that the Expert set? Either way.

I never bought any settings and had only whatever modules came free in the boxes.

Quote from: RPGPundit;829397What city from some official D&D setting is your favorite? It can be from any edition, but not 3rd-party products.

City State of the Invincible Overlord of course. Along with the City State of the World Emperor.

The first 2e Campaign I ran was Planescape. I read the novels, played Torment, and played in Planescape themed Persistent Worlds in both NWN and NWN2. I think the NWN2 one is still running. So in one form or another I have spent a lot of time in The Cage. I pretty much ignore anything Faction War because I figure that Factions which could co-exist for centuries without killing each other probably have a reason, such as The Lady mazing anyone who tries to start a Faction War. I like it because you can have low level characters from anywhere be able to survive and have adventures, and not always in horrible places. Though there's a really good chance they'll be wandering the sewers and possibly parts of Undersigil. It's a great sandbox setting, though yes I do use cliches like sending characters to clear Paraelemental Ice Penguins from a Tavern's Beer Cellar, who wandered in from a portal that is only supposed to be open for brief times to keep the beer cellar cool. The neat thing is, if you want to shift focus to another setting, all you need to do is walk through the right Portal.
