This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How the heck do I miss these threads! Thanks for the catch Mike and Clash.

SoE is set in 1938 and has two source books for it, House of Vega (Spanish Civil War) and Austrian Holiday: A Day in the Country with Super Soldiers, an adventure. That said, I have had play testers and groups say they ran in WWII straight up (no magic) and it was great fun. That includes some historical minis players in WI...so you know they are hard core. ;)

Also, just want to mention that I have an online character generator called the CHARGen. It is web based so no software to install, stores the character on our server, helps you upgrade the character when you get XP and renders a PDF of the character sheet anywhere. It has been described as a fun tool.

Well, I will keep an eye on this thread if you have any questions and you can always stop by the HinterWelt fora as well.

Thanks,
Bill

Are your games available somewhere in Canada?

I forgot to mention that my buddy is only looking for a print product and does not order online either.

Available through hobby stores. They are in distribution (Lions Rampant was a Canadian distributor that carried our titles) so a store could special order it if they do not carry Shades of Earth. A quick look at our retail locater does not show any in Canada but with small press...well, you know.

I can ask around if you like. What part of Canada?

These guys carry them. (scroll down to HINTERWELT) And they mail order. I also saw the Wedding Pie for SA on their "New" rack once but for some reason I've never seen the core Squirrel Attack book. *shrug*

Yeah, they seem to have the full Roma line but only House of Vega for SoE.

I will ask around and see if there is a store near Montreal that carries our stuff.

It appears the Le Valet d'Coeur (pretty name) in Montreal carries our books including Shades of Earth. You might want to call to confirm before making the trip. I tried but they had already closed.

Their website

Thanks for the interest.

I know the place (although I don't go often anymore).

Good for you! It's a store with a lot of traffic (the largest in the province) but when they don't carry a game, they tend not to give a shit about special orders.

Thanks for all the help, Bill!

Quote from: flyingmiceThat's the basic idea. In In Harm's Way: Aces in Spades the WWI Pilot game I'm almost done with, you get 7 background skills, depending on your background, for age 18, then you go through Flight and/or Gunner training before going out to the war, gaining 4 skills per school. Skill gaining in service is also faster - you gain a skill every 6 months rather than 1 per year. Extend that to different schools - Airbourne, OSS, Armored, Artillery, etc. - with different skillsets, and your chargen is done. In the In Harm's Way games, you play a troupe of three characters - Officer, specialist/non-com, and private - with a single large skill pool to draw a number of skills from - 10-20 skills depending on the specialty - rather than building them up like the officers.

The rest of the game is background and toys, really. Of course, Aces in Spades has a big chunk of the book dedicated to planes and dogfighting rules... :D

And might I add from the playtest docs that Aces In Spades is a very cool product. I particularly like the dogfighting rules.

So far , it still sounds like GURPS:WORLD WAR II is your best bet. Even if he doesn't the mechanics - they make pretty good sourcebooks.

Speaking of that..... at the moment the Sci-Fi channel is running this movie set during World War II called "Reign of the Gargoyles".

The premise is that the Nazis have brought gargoyles back to life to attack the allies for them in the air.  So far, the special effects are okay. The main characters are the crew of a B-17.
