This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Would you play in a setting where homosexuality was the norm?

Quote from: SpikeSweet baby Jeebus you must be dense!

What the fuck have we been going on and on about for the last fucking week?

Oh yeah: Size differences matter more than gender yes/no?

Yes, of course!  I've been saying that since, oh...

Quote from: John MorrowDespite adamant assertions to the contrary, women are generally significantly physically weaker than men, largely because they are smaller (on average and at the extremes) but also because of a variety of lesser issues including hormones, body fat to muscle ratios, and skeletal differences.  The reason why males generally dominate females in mammals is the same reason while bigger males dominate smaller males in mammals -- bigger individuals are stronger than smaller individuals.

Quote from: John MorrowCuriously, much of the dimorphism could be erased by making women as large as men but D&D 3.5, while not having any sort of strength modifier, does have women being substantially smaller than men on the height and weight tables.

Quote from: SpikeAs in: Size, not Gender appears to be the primary determinating factor for strength.

And yes, I rounded, but you've already mentioned that a 5% difference isn't really worth making into a game rule.

Yes.  And that's why I keep saying that if you want to realistically erase the dimorphism, simply make men and women the same size in your game.

So it sounds like we're back to agreement and maybe we should both stop here.

Quote from: David RWell the thing is in games where there is no difference in strenght between the genders the muscle bound appearence which denotes strenght would  not be much of an issue right? Then you could very well have a Conan-type male fighting with a fashion model female or more "realistically" a Conan-type male fighting against a Sarah Connors(T2)-type female, depending on the preference of the players.

David R

In a point buy system, the inability of a character to be both supremely strong and gorgeous, whether male or female, is represented by having a limited number of points, and having to choose to spend them on either strength or charisma (or whatever the local variations of those two are). A character who wants to be extremely strong just won't have as many points as another character to spend on being good looking.

To answer just the question that was in bold as the headline...:

Okay a lot of space here given over to women being as strong as men. This is patently not true but more importantly you are missing a whole spate of other sexual differences.
Women can't park a car - study showed only 23% of women scould reverse park an unusual car within 8 inches of the pavement on the first attempt compared to 76% of men
Women can't work technology or tools in general - in the IT industry women make up only 18% of all techncial resources
Women can't formulate a logical arguement without resorting to 'fine, whatever'
Women have only 33% of the testosterone of men and as such are much less competative and are more likely to end a contest in compromise
Women are illogical most of the time but for 3 days a month they are toally and absolutely out of their trees
Women lack even the most basic of construction skills - a man no matter how unexposed to DIY (home improvements) knows by default that you don't try and nail a shelf upto a plasterboard wall (dry wall) or even nail it anywhere
Women demonstrate a 5% lower achievement on traditional IQ tests (this variance has been removed by changing IQ tests and taking out the bits that women were bad at)
Women are less successful in examinations that men, again this has been removed from education by shifting the emphasis from examinations to course work with the sole aim of demoving the disparity in gender and ending up with a huge disparity in the other direction

There that just about covers it .. how we goignt o replicate these variations in our games ?

I'm not passing judgement on your list, except to note that most of them don't relate to my fantasy settting even if true, no cars for example.

As for the mental traits, I model those perfectly- by using female players. :)
