This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WoTC is in the T-Shirt Business, but Also the Virtue Signal Business

I buy things that work for my needs and preferences. I don't care about the politics the company behind those products prefers, provided they're not actually the KKK or American Communist Party or something. I am happy to shop at Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A on the same day I shop at Ben and Jerry's and WOTC. My votes are, for the most part, left to the ballot box. Because making all of life about politics is just not a good way to live.

So?  Gygax was a Jehovah's Witness and Arneson was, I believe, Church of Christ.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

You are virtue signaling your own product to a specific market: towards people who bristle at anything perceived as SJW. The irony is palpable.

Seriously.  This is the same shit he banned Zweihander for.

If it wasn't for double standards Pundit wouldn't have any standards at all

Quote from: Patrick;1036273I think this is a "miss" on your part, Pundit.  If LGBT people want a t-shirt to show their "D&D Pride", more power to them.  Can't see how this affects anything at all.

D&D is incrementally ruined over time is all. Just as with anything that sexualists touch.

Exploderwizard

I don't really care what t-shirts WOTC produces or sells. Its a product, and if I like it I will buy it and if I don't then I won't. The market will decide what products are viable.
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.

Wait. Didn't you ragequit this site just 8 hours earlier?

Oh, yeah. You did!

poor moderation choices.

Byeeee! Y'all who want to have civil conversation with lax moderation should join us over at RPGPub.

Agreed. I firmly believe in separating Creator from Created, but if a Creator hates you, many people may decide to vote with their wallet.

Also, by 1980 there were two dozen RPGs on the market. Nobody had to bow to D&D back then. Today, there are thousands of RPGs, leaving absolutely no reason for anyone to give any allegiance (or money) to WotC unless WotC is producing what you want.

Conservatives have to do that otherwise we'd have almost zero entertainment products we can purchase. I mean Scott Baio is an amazing actor but he's just one man.

I tend to think the people working at WoTC are this way because there isn't any actual diversity at the company and the nonsense is kept on social media. Mike Mearls may be a big fat douche but he is smart enough to know not to virtue signal outside of Seattle.

Considering that his posts for the past couple of weeks have been nothing but deliberate disruptions, it does not give the impression of a trusting source.

You read David French's article on the Kanye controversy too, huh? :)

I can deal with disagreement from creators in media I love--George Lucas was a typical Hollywood liberal with dabblings in esoterica, Gene Roddenberry had some truly wrongheaded and obnoxious ideas about sex and religion--but when it goes from having wrong ideas, or even using them in media, to actively campaigning for things I consider harmful and condemning those of us who disagree as 'haters' or 'bigots', I tend to start to disconnect. In the RPG context, this has poisoned the well a bit for me regarding material from WotC, Green Ronin and Pelgrane Press, as well as Jonathan Tweet, who though very talented, has used his gaming material to fundraise for an organization I consider actively evil.  (Paizo doesn't count, since I was never a real fan to begin with.)

Rhedyn

I only dislike WotC because I think they can't design for shit.

Companies being overtly political just means I support them less. Doesn't really effect my interest in the product.

People still read David French?

The problem is that when the creator's personal values conflict with those of a broad section of society, he's inevitably going to try and legitimize them. To use an obvious example, movies have always been used as a vehicle to push increasing sexual license for no other reason than that actors and producers themselves have been a den of divorcees and perverts since the silent film era. Movies have always pushed as much as the current market would bear, and they're still pushing, since there are still things Hollywood personalities do that they have to keep under wraps, but feel we should all just lighten up about (remember how Hollywood reacted to us learning about Polanski).

Conservatives would have to make entertainment that isn't garbage, since the main mistake they make is to make preachy conservative content instead of good content. But as far as RPGs go, you could always play ACKS if WotC gets too heavy-handed with its messaging.
Every time I think the Forgotten Realms can\'t be a dumber setting, I get proven to be an unimaginative idiot.
