This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WotC is better at producing buzzwords than they are at producing products.

Quote from: Benoist;546093I seriously hope they reconsider. I hate RPGs written like toaster oven manuals talking about their rules in a vacuum like it's a freaking buzzword salad redefining common words like "prone" for the sake of it. Fuck that noise.

*pre* 4th edition style. Actually a better way of saying it would be 'cut and paste' from AD&D.

That's it sorry for being less than clear.
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

Benoist

Aaah I had not seen the "pre" indeed. My bad.

I reacted that way because the tone of the description of abilities and feats seem very ... 4e-ish to me. I don't like that about the playtest documents.

B.T.

"Prone doesn't mean prone, it's just a condition that causes certain penalties." --4venger logic

And they wonder why we call it a videogame.
Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

Quote from: Benoist;546076What I want to know is how Balanced it is, and the amount of Fluff and Crunch in the game.
But the text should also be flavourful.

But careful with the Mother-May-I and the Quadratic Wizards too.

I don't get that vibe tbh:

5th ed: When you charge you do 3d6+6 damage and knock you opponent prone.

4th ed: Attack, 3 [w] + ST, Uncompromising, Overbear

Benoist

It's not nearly as bad, I'll agree to that. Maybe it's just the organization of the character sheet that rubs me the wrong way.

When did charge get added to 5th Ed?

Ah. So the implied "you" is a minotaur. Got it. :D

Buzzwords are the lifeblood to most publicly traded corporations.  Investors love buzzwords, because they can always make things sound more important than what they really are.

Kind of begs the question whether a public corporation can muster some real creativity in RPG space, or whether the need to maximize profit puts creativity at a disadvantage.

There are days when I think that it'd be better if some geeky billionaire bought WotC and took it private.

Wasn't it part of the motivation of Peter Adkinson when WotC acquired TSR and he backed Ryan Dancey's idea of the OGL, to basically not have D&D trapped at the whim of some sole owner of the IP ever again?
