There's absolutely nothing fundamentally wrong with the kenders. In fact, Kenders actually kickstarted the revival of Halflings as we know them today and this will continue in 4th edition. I agree the Kender character from the Dragonlance novel sucked ass. So did the other characters as well.

My own vote goes to

1-Ducks. No redeeming value whatsoever and insulting

2-Insectoid races, such as the Dark Sun shit. They just make me think of sci-fi more than fantasy

To whom?  Real ducks?

Any race that involves cat people or bird people (besides Elder Scrolls or Talislanta). I hate 'em. They're almost always done in a retarded way. The only real exceptions I've seen are from Talislanta or Elder Scrolls.

Indeed, I do.  In fact, just to show how I contain multitudes, I once played a duck entertainer in a RQ game -- Bard Quaketail.  And he kicked ass.

Queng Wisequack will kick your duck-hater asses:

Is Queng a proper duck or a keet?  Because, you know, keets are stupid.

Keets are stupid? Now these guys are going to kick your ass!

Kender.
Period, but mostly not as they are written, but how they are played.

You're right, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Kender as they are written. However, there is usually something fundamentally wrong with the person who wants to play a Kender.

Or a Malkavian in Vampire.

Or a Gungan or Ewok in Star Wars.

I think I know what you mean. But really, it comes down to the shitty litterature and people being obsessed with replicating a particular character. I think the bane of Dragonlance for me was the number of sickly, antisocial wizards that followed, more than the Kenders. Fortunately, we have many examples of wizards in all sorts of tales while we were stuck with one shitty Kender.

But please, tell me of these Malkavians, Jeff! I'm unfamiliar with that (I suppose it's WoD?). I need a tiny bit of context and of course, I could use some examples of hellish sessions :D

Age of Fable

Quote from: teckno72Yeah, Kinder especially--but also Ravnos vampires, some ole changelings, evil characters, and some "crazy" characters.  Stealing from others outside the group is one thing.  Stealing from team members is ... inexcusable.  Makes you want to help them sacrifice themselves at the proper moment.  It's a fuse, waiting to go off at the worst time.  And, they mug the attention often, which makes other players die of boredom.

I had a great idea for a Malkavian vampire. He calls himself Kindred Smurf, and his madness is that he thinks he's a smurf. This makes him likely to do anything that any female with blond hair and/or blue skin says, because he thinks she's the beautiful Smurfette, and he's pathologically afraid of Tremere...

This...this is what you're talking about isn't it?

I'll buck the trend here and say humans.  No, seriously.  For all the complaints you guys have about any single fantasy RPG race, the same can be said for someone's depiction of a human culture.  If they aren't a thinly-veiled parallels of a real, historical culture, they're a thinly-veiled pastiche of several real, historical cultures.  Or their cultures are monolithic parables of a single virtue.  Or their cultures are so blandly generic to amount to no culture at all.

Bah.  Huminks.

You totally forgot "or they're the player, but dressed for a Renaissance Fair."

Well, I like ducks, too, and don't find them much, if any, sillier than any other given fantasy race.

As for the race I think is worst, I'll toss in my vote for kender, as well. This is particularly true now that 4e is modeling halflings after them. It surprises me to think there are that many fans of them out there that they would end up influencing halfings even more than they did in 3e.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.
