This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[World generator] - a simple online tool

I'm terribly sorry if it belongs to a different subforum. Any mod around: please move it elsewhere.

Anyway...

I made a simple online tool, a generator of sorts that generates a random "world" or a domain that might be used in a game featuring multi-world setting, like AMBER RPG, LORDS OF GOSSAMER & SHADOW, KULT RPG etc.

Disclaimer:
  • It uses ORTEIL's random generator maker.
  • It features horribly, horribly butchered English. Sorry!
  • It's "alpha". It should work, but there's a possibility some glitches and errors exist.
  • While it borrows ideas from certain RPGs, it's pretty much system agnostic.
  • It's probably not very self-explanatory at times. Don't worry, it will grow with time.
  • I'm aware about other, similar generators, but this one is suitable for my own style of play and therefore I think it's kind of unique.

Without any further ado:

Well, I did generate an enormous, inhospitable ship with savage, yet peaceful natives.

Sounds okay to me:-)

AsenRG

I generated a world where powers don't work unless powered by some mana crystals, and I approve as well:)!

Thanks for input guys!

Seems like a mix between Pandorum and Avatar. :D

Funnily enough, a player created such a Domain not so long ago and used it as a trap for other outsiders who relied on their Powers for most of the time. Dar I say, shit was so cash. ;)

Inspirational idea stuff. Thanks for this.

My pleasure. I'll try to correct that "English" later and add some additional elements, like "reasons to visit this world" as well.

Maybe the font/CSS needs some tweaking? For better spacing between lines. Less bold.

I'm limited to only very basic formatting, but I'll toy with it later.

I think you're too hard on your English skills.  Sadly, you're more coherent than a fair percentage of my fellow Americans.

And now guess what was my first idea after reading it;).

Thank you, you're very kind. :)

To be honest, it's one of very nice traits shared by pretty much every American I might have meet during my Internet and real-life voyages: you're very tolerant when foreigners attempt to speak English. I mean, during my Internet voyages I was often called names because of what I've said, but never because of the way I've said that, even if it'd be very easy to make it an argument.

I need to steal that and recreate in my upcoming campaign as AsenRG's Hunting Grounds? :p

tbh, the idea isn't that original. I think it might be traced back to either Feist's Midkemia, Zelazny's Amber, or perhaps one of those older video games where spellcasters used some mana stones or something. ;)

Feel free to, but then guns don't work, either:p.

I didn't say it's terribly original. I said I approve;).

Pretty cool, though I'd prefer a random map generator - ideas I can easily get, maps...not my forte.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Bunch

My impression is this is medium sized publishers (for the rpg market anyway) who might be getting squeezed by consolidation on the physical rpg distribution end.  I'd need to lookbit up more but i thought Asmodee and Diamond distribution where getting pretty much a lock on physical distribution.   This might give them more options should continuing with Diamond/Asmodee prove unbearable.

God damit wrong thread!

Personally i see it having little chance to succeed long term.  If it is a consortium of existing publishers instead of a individual separate company with its own profit goals one of the members will be doing more work for less benefit or for excessive control at some point.  That's usually when things break down.

The middle guys are in a tough spot. Too small to force someone to listen above but too small to go it alone.

They would be wise to link up Allen Varney at bundleofholding.com and be an additional host for copies.

  • Added TIME variable
  • Added more PURPOSE to visit the world
  • Added a few descriptions here and there
  • Fixed some language

I'm not sure whether to update this thread. If it's too much of a bother, just let me know. :)
