This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Wives and roleplaying

My wife tried it once. It isn't for her.

That said, we've finally worked it out so that she lets me get out to play around once per month (my current group is in Chattanooga, so play involves an evening and overnight stay). It's okay, but I might try to start up something with some other people locally if I can find the time.

No shit!  I'm just happy my fiancee will at least play the occasional board game with me.  She won't touch RPG's with a 10-foot pole.

Quote from: Zachary The FirstFor me, hope springs eternal.  I think Gen Con this year will be the key (it's her first time going).  Yeah, there's a bunch of crazies and other sorts there, but she loves just about every type of game except RPGs thus far.  I'm thinking once she sees just how expansive the choices out there are, and gets to run in some good demos, she'll find something she enjoys.

She's on the fence--just needs a liiitle push. :)

Zachary, Stop by the booth and I will get Linda to work her over. Linda is pretty good at convincing non-gamers what fun RPGing is. Also, we will make sure she gets a copy of SA! and that is sure to rope her in. :) Oh! and I will be running a SA! this year. Should be fun.

Do you play to win or are you just a bad loser?

I have to say, Linda, is a great RPGer and an incredible woman all around.

Here are some pictures of her and Theoden, my son.

I have always said, mate within your species. :P

Maybe her awesome gamer ways will have a positive influence on my wife if (when) they meet at Gen Con this year. :)

Theoden's a handsome little guy, isn't he?  I'll have to bring my daughter Saris so there can be two gamer toddlers there. :)

That sounds fantastic!!!!  I already have time planned as blocked off for HinterWelt this year.  And if SA! can't do the trick, it might be a lost cause. ;)

(BTW, I responded to the crit question on the forums, just FYI)

We are bringing extra people for the booth just so we can handle Theo so Saris will be most welcome. Theo will be almost 2 by then. How old will Saris be?

BTW - Linda and the crew want to take you (and your crew) out to dinner so figure that into your plans. At least you will get a meal out of it. :)

Sounds fantastic!  Thanks very much! And Saris turns 2 this August, so that works out just fine.

Is Chevalier going to be ready in time for GC Indy?  I'm betting Brittania will, at least.

Back to the topic, someone really should do a seminar for GC Indy entitled "Gaming & Wives--They Can Co-Exist".  It'd be the most-attended seminar there.

i can very rarely get my wife to game with me.  she's played D&D with me maybe all of 3 times, i think.  that completely ended with the birth of our baby, however.  ;)

now, she does game a whole bunch when we go to GenCon, maybe because the kids aren't around.  :D  and i can always get her to join in Keeper of Secrets' CoC game if nothing else.  :)
don't quote me on that.  :)

My wife used to game with me almost daily in college - she was of course my girlfriend then.  Since then, we still game but because of children and jobs and life, our gaming is seldom now.  But we still have the interest and still seek time.  But I'll one-up you...

My wife is a gamer AND goes to strip clubs with me.  Not interested in the girlies, but she loves the environment.  THATS a good wife :P

Hey, Bill! Theo looks like gamer material to me. My son is a bit older - he's 19, probably older than some folks that post here - but he has written games with me. He's largely responsible for the magic system of Book of Jalan, for example.

My wifre games too - in fact we met at a game. We'll be celebrating our 21st anniversary this year. :D

I'll have to see if I can track down the pics of me in a mermaid costume, it makes the whole thing come together.

My wife loves to play boardgames but just can't get comfortable with rpgs.

I know exactly what you mean.  But where there's gaming, there's hope. :)
