This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Looking for good sword & sorcery adventures and ideas

What the subject says. Think the fiction of Howard, Smith, Leiber. Games like Conan and Hyperborea. Of this kind of thing is all over the place, but I'm especially looking for ones with a classic feel. I don't care about rules, just want adventure and location ideas.

The one book I'm fairly sure I'll pick up is Jeweled Thrones of the Earth for the Conan game. I've also got the Hyperborea book, so am looking at that. Any other suggestions?

DragonQuest. Probably find it on Ebay or Wayne's Books.

The Red Prophet Rises by Malrex and Prince of Nothing is short, sweet, and right out of a Conan story. (My review here).
Chainsaw's Lost Treasure of Atlantis is very good, for a SF-vs-fantasy feel.
Guy Fullerton's modules fit here; The Withered Crag is short but sweet.
Judges Guild's Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower are both S&S-themed dungeons.
From the TSR lineup, Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan is the best one.

I have also published a bunch. The Lost Valley of Kishar, by a friend of mine, is quite cool, and Bryce thinks it is "pretty good".
Now with a Zine!

The Midlands Low Magic Sandbox Setting can be found on Drivethrurpg, com.  It has the outlines of an excellent S&S world of the type favored by the authors you cited, a colorful beastiary, and 50 "adventure frameworks".  Each framework is about 1-3 pages of text and maps outlining a brief adventure.  These could be dropped into any low magic, human-centric S&S setting, or at least give you some great ideas for creating your own.  I enjoy the writing style and the pdf is fully bookmarked with an index.  It is illustrated with high quality old-school line drawings.
Playing: John Carter of Mars, Hyperborea

If you're up for a random generator, https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1423977218977.pdf for AS&SH is 11 d20 tables I think are reasonably thematic.

Thanks for the replies - lots of stuff to look through.

S'mon

Primeval Thule Campaign Setting is full of good stuff. You can often get a cheap hardback of the 4e or Thirteenth Age versions - they are all near identical.

Anything written for Barbarians of Lemuria.

The Mythic Edition Book itself is chock full of adventure ideas/plot seeds. And has a random adventure generator.

Chock full is not an exaggeration.

  • The back of the book has 5 full-size adventures, 5 brief adventure seeds (generally a couple of sentences), and the random adventure generator.

  • In addition, each of the 26 careers has its own adventure idea. Adventure ideas are a bit longer than the adventure seeds (ideas are typically a couple of paragraphs in length).

  • Most of the geographical descriptions include their own adventure idea, so that's another 29 adventure ideas. And there are 11 additional geographic-based rumors containing an adventure seed.

And of course there are additional adventures available for purchase e.g., on DriveThru.
