This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My history and misadventures with Hero Games.

Why else would you start this thread?

I think it serves as a good cautionary tale in the ever growing sea of cautionary tales concerning publishers and, increasingly, designers.

I've noted more than once the problems with SJG, White Wolf, Green Ronin, Sanguine, FFG, and other companies. Others have recounted dealing with Palladium, WOTC, Paizo, and especially White Wolf and Games Workshop.

As noted before I have an entire Rifts manuscript just handed to me by a former writer for Palladium who got so fed up with the antics there that he totally quit RPGs.

I believe potential customers also have a right to know when a game company behaves badly. So they can vote with their dollars.

Frankly. A game company should have to actually earn what they get from their customers. They should be humble and thankful that a customer actually buys their product. That they have decent customer service. Instead of acting like entitled douchebags,

One thing I have hated about TBP was the fact that they go out of their way to be anti-consumer. That they shut down any consumer complaints against a company who has definitely been behaving badly. TBP act as enablers for the bad actors in the industry.

... Now if Hero just had a simplified version of the game for use in non-supers games. The core mechanics are decent enough for any sort of game.

HERO Basic is 128 pages and simplified powers for newer players.
