This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why didn't Runequest do better?

Big shout out to Loz (Lawrence Whitaker) for the review PDF of RuneQuest 6. It looks great so far! Busy digging through it now.

To quote my friend Mark (from back in the day), "Ducks are stupid. The Elves and Dwarves are wierd."

They all sort of liked the system. It was Glorantha that they had a problem with.  Yes, they were all Tolkien indoctrinated gamers.  The only odd thing they used to play was Traveller and Empire of the Petal Throne (which we always thought was "big kids D&D"). Yes, I was that young back in 1976-77  If there had been Non-Glorantha Basic Roleplaying with a Generic Adventure Fantasy Setting back in the day, We would be playing percentile games and looking oddly at all those game with funny dice.

I was a gamer never indoctrinated to Tolkien or D&D, so I always was go for running or playing, "those other things".  However, by the time I found other people to play RQ with... my tastes had moved far away from fantasy.

Quote from: Iron Simulacrum;594390I think we're now wondering into "why I don't like Glorantha [any more]" territory now.

Beat me to it. I can't bring myself to like Glorantha. I tried, but the setting is too loony for me.
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

Quote from: Kaiu Keiichi;593915I can see that you're a person who would probably have a blast out time playing ducks, but are simply too afraid too.

Yeah, that sounds likely.

QuoteWhat's really hilarious is that people dog down Glorantha because it has Ducks, but adore 40K with it's really retarded Orks.

What are retarded about 40k orcs? I mean in some way that's different than the way orcs are retarded in every fantasy RPG?

Quote from: Eisenmann;594558We didn't have those but we did have Children's Palace and KBToys. I remember them having D&D boxed sets and Avalon Hill games but I didn't know enough back then to see if RuneQuest was there.

We had a KBToys here, come to think of it. It's been so long that I can't say for sure what rpgs they had. It was at the mall on the western edge of town, and I wasn't there a lot. I also don't think KBToys lasted long here. Our mall is notorious for changing out businesses regularly. I didn't go around stores unless I was shopping, and being a broke teen ager didn't help any. Now I'll spend the next few hours trying to remember the place. Maybe in the morning I'll call some of the old gaming group and see what they remember.
