That would be hilarious... as a non-fanboy of various things Star Wars I could sit back and enjoy the various fits and tantrums.

Hmm, rpgs and cardgames, makes minis but isn't known for them, has the cash to buy the license.

Who else fits besides FFG?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Quote from: jgants;426389I think the limiting factor with Palladium and Lucasfilm together would be finding a stadium large enough to rent so they can actually fit in all the IP lawyers on both sides for the deal signing...

Har! But also, they wouldn't keep quiet about it.

Sorry, but I've got the various versions of d6 Star Wars RPG and that has my Players and me very satisfied.

Not that I'm not curious, mind you....
"Meh."

Same here. I'm happy with D6 not looking for a new Star Wars game either. However a I can see the value of a new Star War game as a starter rpg that was genuinely accessible for beginners.

I may be misisng something that is out there, but I personally feel there is a gap in the market for a game which someone who has never played an roleplaying game before can just pick up, have read, call his friends over and get started in the way you could with WEG 1st edition Star Wars or Marvel Super Hero Basic.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Quote from: jdurall;426378For #3, I'd argue that it makes the most sense for them to use the animated The Clone Wars series as their core setting. It's current, it's got some iconic characters, fresh content for those who've not been following the show, a unique and consistent art style for screenshots, and it's got a solid dramatic hook to it.

Except for the fact that it would be like shooting your balls on the first night of your marriage, I agree.
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Well, sure.

I think the show is ass (from what I've seen), but the biggest problem is that there's entirely too much setting to make a coherent game out of. The three versions we've seen have been period-agnostic and have failed to really do a quick-sell on the big three questions of: "Who am I, what am I doing, and what's making that difficult?".

A new game with a default period setting, a streamlined character creation process (about as complex as the new Gamma World - pick a race, pick a class, roll some dice for stats, pick some gear, go!), and an emphasis on quick play, aimed at new players is probably the only way to really break out of the "I've already got d6/Saga" mindset most gamers seem to have.

It doesn't have to be Clone Wars, either. It could be KotoR, to try to cash in on the upcoming MMORPG's popularity, but that seems like an exercise in foolishness, as it would double their licensing approvals hurdles.

Isn't that standard procedure in modern American nuptials?

I hope, if FFG does have it, that they don't turn it into an almost-boardgame like they ruined WFRP with.

I really hope it's FFG and they go the warhammer 3rd route with it.  Would work out soooo well as far as I'm concerned.

the clone wars series is actually pretty damn good once u get past the rather weak first season and into the good stuff from season 2 onwards, i think they will probably go for a mixed clone wars, movies and old republic approach though as that covers the 3 main areas that are current and avoids anything that isnt official cannon to lucasarts(the better to avoid continuity issues when they eventually decide to ignore the EU stuff again).
If its FFG who got the rights then i see them doing 3 boxsets one for each setting and all containing the base rules with a tailored list of races and classes to suit each setting with each costing roughly the same as the wfrp set does atm.

Agreed.  Love WFRP 3 and think it's treatment would work really well for Star Wars.  The magic system, the concept of drawing in the force and unleashing it works well.  As does the cantrip idea for minor force effects as a skill check is perfect.

Action cards to highlight some specifically fun things a character can do and the generally more heroic/adventure nature of the system also supports Star Wars very well.

I know two groups who play WFRP 3e and they rave about it.   The FLGS has the box sets prominently displayed in key space so it must be selling for him.

If anything, I hope FFG goes complete Hybrid RPG with Star Wars.   I would love to see a new take on the game.

100% agreement.
