This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Who's Got Star Wars?

As for this new Star Wars RPG?

Any news coming from Mongoose is dubious at best.

I'll believe the news when I see the press release from the new publisher.

Quote from: Ian Warner;426127Interesting. Somebody designing the game actually thought "hey I think people would want to play one of those impish blue flying faux Italians"

I heard the Toydarians are supposed to be releated to the Hutts. Despite the fact they have nothing in common except criminal tendancies.

They added all kinds of species in the sourcebooks. The Toydarians weren't in the core, but I'm almost certain they were in a supplement - Unknown Regions probably.

Yeah, gotta say, it'd have to be something AWFULLY compelling to convince me to move on from SW Saga Edition.

CCG + RPG + Minis?

The lack of boardgames in the license makes me believe its not FFG.   Boardgames are their bread & toejam.

Which makes me wonder if its WotC...

Sure, they dropped the license...maybe only to negotiate another one.

Endless Flight

Star Wars always should have had it's own system.

They shoehorned it into the D6 system fairly successfully, but there were issues with the Force rules.

They shoehorned it into d20 fairly decently (depending on which version you look at), but there were issues with Feats and other odds 'n ends.

I look forward to seeing what the new licensee comes up with.

Just to throw out more speculation. This company is neither a miniatures or ccg company but what about Margaret Weis Productions?  They like to license properties and make RPGs out of them. Surely they have some money with the upteenth number of books she's written.

From an older thread earlier this year, Chris Pramas of Green Ronin mentioned the Star Wars license would be too expensive for a company the size of Green Ronin.

Maybe its Palladium.  That would be so awesome, just for the sake of hearing the sound of so, so many peoples' heads exploding from the nerdrage.

I suspect, like most folks do, that it's FFG, and that they'll offer up a deluxe boxed set full of specialized dice, tokens, and cards that plays to their design strengths.

If so, I hope:

a) they learned their lesson about releasing a game without an index
b) they decide to include the text of cards within the text of the books
c) they focus on one setting/timeframe rather than doing the standard "all era supported by a bazillion sourcebooks" format

For #3, I'd argue that it makes the most sense for them to use the animated The Clone Wars series as their core setting. It's current, it's got some iconic characters, fresh content for those who've not been following the show, a unique and consistent art style for screenshots, and it's got a solid dramatic hook to it.

I know that seems surprising I'd recommend that setting (I don't even watch the show), but I think for the game to win converts it's going to have to distinguish itself drastically from the d6 version and the Saga version (which is still in stores in many markets).

Palladium can't afford it either.  They got Robotech back in a sweetheart deal, but they sure as Hell can't afford what Lucas's licensing people demand for it.

I think the limiting factor with Palladium and Lucasfilm together would be finding a stadium large enough to rent so they can actually fit in all the IP lawyers on both sides for the deal signing...
