This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I get the impression you and your pals here wouldn't know how to pronounce cuss words in the real world as you only began to use them furtively in your thirties online.
Your furious attempts at condescension are amusing.

Kent strikes me as one of those moderately intelligent people who make the unfortunate error of thinking they are the smartest guy in the room. In real life these types are usually quite insecure and something of a failure in terms of their inflated expectation of themselves. Often they are members of MENSA or other associations that cater to bright underachievers.

You just have to look at Kent's posting history and blog. It's an endless attempt to show how clever he is. Sadly he generally takes the easy path of belittling others rather than actually posting something insightful or valuable.

As a DM Kent would be autocratic and condescending, missing no opportunity to lord it over his players, all of whom would be carefully selected to be less capable than himself.

As a player he would be a complete dick. Undermining of the DM's authority by continually telling everyone how 'he' would have ruled it. He wouldn't get along with his fellow players either as he would treat them with contempt all the while claiming to be just 'roleplaying his character'.

Needless to say many of his characters would have been booted out of the party or killed in their sleep which is probably what drove him to DMing in the first place.

A character such as Kent is great to laugh at and indeed we see much of that in this thread. However, it would be a mistake to take anything he says seriously.

Regardless of Kent's alledged secret motivations, previous posting history and stunts he's pulled elsewhere, it was perfectly possible to engage with this thread in a manner that didn't turn it into a train-wreck.

Eh - it started off halfway constructive, with a couple laughs peppered in, and then Kent turns up to do his, "Hmmph - typical...  *sniff* "  act, after which it turned into "let's all laugh at Kent".  How else would that have gone?

I was dragged along to a MENSA meeting a few times in the past.

Many of the individuals I've met who were mensa regulars, were the types I had very little to no interest in hanging around with.  Such individuals were even more annoying than Sheldon Cooper types.

When you start a conversation by spitting into someone's eye, it really can only go downhill from there. So I disagree, it went exactly as it was possible for it to go.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Plus the actual links he gave did nothing to demonstrate the point he was making about them.

I'm prepared to believe the posters he spoke about do have interesting things to say, but a long list of two line replies taken completely out of context does nothing to demonstrate it.

If he really wanted to make that point, and do something useful for others, he should have got the original posters permission and cut and pasted some of the better posts onto his blog, or even just given some independent links to a small selection of worthwhile individual posts.

As it is, this whole thread was either ill conceived or trolling.
