This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It gets even creepier when I reveal that, at work when we talked about this, I described the process as something like sticking a needle in someone, extracting liquid fandom out of them, and squeezing that into money.

We need more Dune references.

(Almost every time I've seen the movie Dune, I've had a really high fever.  This doesn't help with comprehension, but it does work with the visual design. :D)

It might be interesting to see how the (still relatively freeform) magic system from Mage would translate into the online game... They'd have to go with rote lists, I suppose.
Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

Speaking of dune, ever see the SFC version? It was cheaper but better written, one of the few good jobs the SFc has done on anything.
RPGPundit is a fucking fascist asshole and a hypocritial megadouche.

Hey, Jrients, I just noticed you come from Urbana, Il. HAve you ever taken a tour of the HAL plant there? (OK, making a SF movie ref besides Dune.)

Saga of Ryzom sort of has a freeform magic system.  Spells and skills are composed of elements that add effects, and you balance them with cost elements.  It's quite nifty.

I forget exactly.  I kinda stopped playing when they put the level cap in the trial.  I might nab it again once I have the scratch to spare, but there's a lot of MMOs with the potential to compete for my time and dollars.

I'd still like to go back to EVE and give it another go, I'll be doubtless reactivating WoW, Phantasy Star Universe just came out, and I also picked up Ultima Online recently and have been having a good deal of fun poking about on it too.

I was surprised at how derivative it was from the Lynch version actually.  Visually it was almost identical.  I also think that Lynch was right to cut out everything he did.

Really? I prefer the Lynch version for a lot of reasons, not the least was the visual stylings, but I wouldn't say that the SFc's version was derivative of it at all... if anything the SFc version was too derivative of the actual book, trying too hard to be faithful to the written word, and not trying hard enough to forge it's own take...
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
