Which edition of Star Wars to run for kids

Which edition would work best for kids age 9 & 11?  They've played B/X D&D for a few months and that went well.  I would run it and have plenty of experience running.

I only own 3.0 WOTC Star Wars and it's too much for them. . . and I don't want to put in the time to modify.

Looking for out of the box and fairly simple, if it exists.  Not looking to modify another game, like Traveller.

Thanks.

The first edition of WEG's Star Wars was recently republished by Fantasy Flight Games and should be easily had. That is gold standard—simple, pulpy fun. Also all the WEG's publications are available in pdf (I think legally, or quasi legally).

I second the recommendation of the old WEG Star Wars game. The reprint is called the "Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game 30th Anniversary Edition" if you are going to search for it. It has the poster from the original Star Wars movie as the cover.

If they like the Rebellion era, then D6 is good.
If they like the prequels era, and SW Saga is too much, I would steer clear of any published edition.

Maybe Savage Worlds? It's designed for pulp genres and is easy to understand.

If WEG doesn't work out, you might try White Star. It's based on White Box Swords and Wizardry (original DnDish) so it should be close to BX. But I haven't looked at it. Note, it'll be Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off.

Spinachcat

Any solid reviews of White Star out there? I'd love to hear a good breakdown of the good, the bad and the ugly.

As for Star Wars RPGing, I would go with a Savage Worlds homebrew online (there must be several) if you like using minis. Otherwise, if you like theater of the mind, then WEG's D6 is the gold standard. I much prefer 1e.

My son is 11 and I ran a Rebellion era Star Wars game for him using Mini Six, which is a simplified version of the old WEG Star Wars d6 system. There are several short settings included in the core book, one of which is Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off. I used my collection of the old WEG sourcebooks with very negligible conversion.

These are great sources of Star Wars d6 conversions of things like Mandalorian, Rebels and Clone Wars:

Klytus, I'm bored. What plaything can you offer me today?

An obscure body in the S-K System, Your Majesty. The inhabitants refer to it as the planet... "Earth".

Other than tweaking the dark side point gain for using certain powers to attack (because Yoda's bit about the Force never being used for attack was apparently figurative rather than literal) there's no reason you couldn't use WEG Star Wars for the prequels and I've seen at least one fan supplement for the prequel-era (stats for the ships, droids, etc.).

The FFG beginner games are great for kids. You'd be surprised how quickly kids take to the special dice.

Especially since one of their best selling products was a reprint of the d6 WEG version of the game.

Where do you get the information that it was one of their best-selling products? Perhaps it was, but I'm curious to know where you get your information. I know of several people that bought it, but all were previous D6SW players.

S'mon

I'll also recommend WEG D6 Star Wars. Mini Six (supra) has a nice Star Wars-esque setting & is great for new players but the starship combat rules seem incomplete, eg how shields work is not really explained. It feels like they expect people to know D6 Star Wars.

White Star is very much OD&D in SPACE using stuff from EVERY film & TV space opera of the last 50 years or so. The default setting is pretty much Star Wars, but a standard starting PC will have ca 1d6 hp and won't feel much like Luke Skywalker. Still it's great if you want D&D in space.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

No, they're not, but the serial numbers filled off versions are legally available in pdf.

You can always houserule White Star pump the HP up to somewhere you think it should be to better emulate Star Wars, Where should it be in your opinion?

White Star has all the classes, you just need to change the name.
