SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Mistwell;554796When I say some non-4e fans act like they are butthurt over 4e, I'm mean you.  So for anyone who wonders what kind of fan I am referring to, it's Reckall.  Reckall is The Iconic Butthurt Dude.  If you're unsure if I am referring to you when I talk about butthurt non-4e fans, ask yourself "Am I Reckall?" If you are not in fact Reckall, I probably don't mean you.  And if you are Reckall, I mean you.

You going to still defend 4e after the launch of 5e, or is it going to depend on what board you're on?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Seriously, dude, that kind of hyperbole doesn't really help anyone. What WoTC did in the 4e era was bad enough it doesn't need to be exaggerated.

Quote from: Mistwell;554784I don't agree.  Of the people I know with DDI access, most don't buy books anymore and stopped a while ago.  In fact, we used stuff in the DDI from books none of us owned, routinely.  The only books any of us still bought really were the "fluff-heavy" books.  The "crunch-heavy" ones just didn't need to be in hardcopy anymore.

If the rules governing the new elements added to the online database were included in the online rules compendium then you would be right.

Instead, you had stuff showing up in the character builder that the base rules for were in some printed book. We ran into that with familliars and Arcane Power.

" Hey look at all these cool familliars in the CB now! I'm gonna get one for my wizard."

The rules for how they work should be in the compedium then right?

Nope.

Stuff that was put into the subscription stream was also intended to back up traditional book sales, not replace them.
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.
