Thematic Help: Sorcerer King for 'Gluttony'?

Hey gang.  Since I like to incorporate themes, even if the players don't catch it on a conscious level I like those nice 'aha!' moments when a player gets it later, when I decided there where seven sorcerer kings, I -had- to associate them with the cardinal sins.

That said, I'm mixed on some of the assignments, and stuck on Gluttony.  Any of these assholes can be 'Pride' of course.

I'd like the magic to tie into the Gluttony; since they haven't yet met the Necromancer, I could make him a Ghoul King...

Here's my cliff notes:

The Sorcerer Kings are neither necessarily Sorcerers or Kings, but they ARE powerful spellcasters that rule tracts of the Lost Lands.

  • Kasdeya Ecstasy - The Despotrix.  Lust Female Tiefling wizardess (diviner).
  • Munkar  - The Scorpion.  Greed Rival of Petros the Black, trained by the Black Scorpion mages, believed to have ties to Marignon.
  • Vuhlkar - The Necromancer.  Sloth Never seen by his regular citizens, it is said he is busy with research and maintenance of the nation.  He has an often changing group of "Most Excellent Apprentices" who infight and run things day-to-day.
  • 'Humungous' - The Warlord.  Wrath Little is known of the lord of the wastes, he is believed to be a giant, and has mighty personal magics and no patience for dissent.[li/]
    • King Maladrach - The King Envy The grasping king of the Twisted Forest.
    • Keraptis - The Ancient.  Pride The scheming (mad) wizard and crafter of horrors, Lord of White Plume Mountain.  His mountain moves regularly.

'Humungous' started from a smart ass joke/comment from the players when they encountered the sand-blasted, scrawny servants that talked about their 'mighty master'.  Jokes on them when they meet the Empyrean sorcerer king in the Hockey Mask.

Yes, it's THAT Keraptis.  I made White Plume Mountain move a la the mountain in Krull.

Munkar is straight up the bad guy from Deathstalker.

King Maladrach is the ruler from Tyranny of Dragons, redone.  He's a villain in his own right.

If the party is gonna die, they want to be riding and blasting/hacking away at a separate one of Tiamat's heads as she plummets towards earth with broken wings while Solars and Planars sing.

I feel Gluttony is often overused as purely a 'Food' thing. This is a sin about overindulgence in sensory stimuli.

You could make him a mind mage that makes tons of different 'Drug' mind based enchantment effects. That make you feel anything from pleasure, to joy, to sadness.

Just an idea to bring around some veriety from the standard 'Gluttony is about consumption so necromancy'

Illusionist.

I have to agree that skipping the food angle is probably for the best. I'd suggest someone that consumes and wastes (as opposed to hordes, which would be greed) something else. You could go for consuming all art & music (make the guy more of a bard than sorcerer) possibly including taking the talents of the artists for himself (until they fade...and he has to consume more because he has no innate talent of his own). Optionally, you could literally go for a guy that eats any/all big diamonds--and thereby screws any that would try to be raised from the dead.

I like broadening it out to massive consumption, where as greed text to collect collect collect in want it all, gluttony will burn through horses lovers drugs wine and always be looking for the next shiny like a spoiled rich kid on a shopping trip.

Long-lived selfish and short-sighted... maybe some kind of half dragon?

Possible idea.

As for lust: Lust isn't necacarily sexual. Its all about the feeling of thinking about what you shouldn't have. Its about temptation and to a certain extent knowing what you want is wrong. Its not even so much so about the indulgence (which is gluttony).

Greed is about hoarding and not giving away, Envy is about hating that others have more than you, Gluttony is about overindulgence, Wrath is about living in hate, Pride is not willing to admit what your doing is wrong, Sloth is indolence.

Lust is like the desire to do bad things.

I'd say greed is less about hoarding, and more about wanting. Unlike gluttony, which is about consumption, and envy which is about what others have, greed is about wanting things for their own sake. It doesn't have to be miserliness; a greedy person could become bored once they acquire something, and not really care about it anymore, making any hoarding incidental.

Sloth can also be about comfort and familiarity -- about being stuck in a rut, in the usual patterns, and not having the desire to break them. That might be a way to add some variety to the indolent slug stereotype, because it makes it more about resistance to change than sleepiness.
