This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best characters?

In opposition to the frequent "Awful characters" posts that appear on RPG websites, what are some of the best characters you've seen played? Either a great concept, great development or simply an excellent job of roleplaying?

Well, in my series of In Harms Way pre-campaign adventures, the player playing the captain has been doing a fascinating job so far. She (the player) modelled her character on Tilda Swinton - yeah it aint exactly historical, since we did away with the gender roles of the time :D - and has had some really intense roleplaying exchanges with he rest of her crew, half of whom are in awe of her and the other half troubled by the manner in which she exerts her authority.

There's a nice Blythe/Fletcher Christian dynamic between her character and the ship's doctor, which is so far removed from the original Aubrey/Maturin connection they originally envisioned. The cool thing about this character is that in her dealings with other pcs, you can't really tell if she's sure of herself or if she's sure of the pc she's dealing with.

My Hunter campaign has a devout Muslim player playing a Christian cop based on John C. Riley's character in Magnolia He does a great job conveying the character's humanity - that's the only way I can describe it. I mean, he makes the whole campaign more than just a slasher game which although was not my original intention, it could have become if I didn't have such cool players.

By no means the best I've encountered, but I was pretty happy with my job at roleplaying and providing background to The Bison Rider when we were doing a playest campaign for Mongoose's edition of RuneQuest.

Actually I should mention all the players in my HeroQuest game and my RuneQuest Malay game have been excellent in their roleplaying and the detail they have gone into developing characters. They really have made an exceptional effort.
