This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What's The Last RPG-Related Purchase You've Made?

Quote from: brettmbI just picked up the Traveller Book Hardcover from ebay. Lots better than having to look through separate books or looking at the newer editions.

I rediscovered mine  about two years ago. STILL , in very good condition. Probably bought it when I was a teenager or in my early 20s, heq it might have been a Christmas present back then.
Have been using it for reference at times during my G:T campaign.

This is what a really cool FANTASY RPG should be like :

The Good Assyrian

I just ordered Reign from lulu based on some of what I read in the recent thread about it.

I has been a while for me since I have made an RPG purchase (my wife neglected to emphasize the point that new babies are so expensive...maybe she did and I just ignored her :p), so I am looking forward to getting my hot little hands on it.

I have been a whirling dervish of pdf consumption!

Check it out:

Blood Games II
Haven't had a chance to read this cover to cover but it is awesome so far.  Layout has some things I don't care for (I would have preferred standard two column) but I like the system from what I've read, the writing is very good (I even enjoyed the short story running throughout).  I would probably ignore a lot of the nonhuman and magic rules for PCs and just run those rules as NPC stuff.  It is a lot of fun to read about that stuff though.  Great job Clash!

Starcluster 2
I liked BGII so much I went and bought this next.  I would say my comments on BGII apply to this game as well, though I personally prefer the layout in this game (though this is perhaps balanced out by the fact that I prefer horror to scifi).

Blood!
This is a game that I haven't read much about (though there is one review here for it).  It's meant to play out games in the splatter horror genre, as seen in horror films from the 70s and early 80s.  It's basically very similar to the BRP rules from Call of Cthulhu.  The major addition: a more complicated combat system.  You track health, energy, and blood loss.  It has action points which allow you to save actions to interrupt other characters if you win initiative.  Most importantly, there is a critical hit system which involves a billion charts, one for each kind of weapon (there is both an acid splash critical table and a total immersion in acid critical table, so don't worry!) and they are very explicit.  Just like the movies, so awesome!  The layout is pretty decent with some really gory illustrations but some awkward writing and plenty of typos.

Donjon
Okay, this is pretty much a hippy forge game.  It is somewhere between I dunno Tunnels & Trolls and Dungeons & Dragons in complexity.  The forgey part is successes allow players to state facts about the situation, but the GM is told to act like an evil genie and twist these facts around to the detriment of the players.  I dunno how this would play out.  It's like it wants to be one of those "the gm is just another player and can't handle responsibility so it must be shared" games, and yet it also wants to be a "GM cannot let the players win at any cost!!" game.  Kinda weird, but very nice layout.

Cyberpunk 2020
Ok, I never played this game and I never got into Cyberpunk either.  But I read Neuromancer recently and liked it, and have always liked Blade Runner, so there you go.  It was always something I wanted to play.  I read Dr Rotwang!'s review on rpg.net (great review btw!) and am downloading it now.

Best version in my opinion.

I also got a used copy of Swashbuckler on ebay. Cool system for dueling, but I don't like using cards. You need to already understand the setting/style, however, so newbies to swashbuckling pirates will have problems.

Yesterday I bought the Players and GM's Guides to Immortals from Half Price Books. I've never played them, but remember reading them fondly when they first came out, and they're not in the Rules Compendium, so I had to snatch them up.

Theresa (my wife) had it waiting on the comp for me--I believe she went through RPGnow, as I know she has an account there (for the sole purpose of buying me stuff).  Hope that helps! :)

Ah. See - thick ;)

Don't forget that there's an upgrade discount from PDF to Softcover, so just email me if/when you're ready.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the PDF really does not do the softcover justice.

I've bought a bunch of stuff from the Green Ronin sale. Here's the booty from just the last month:

  • Book of the Righteous
  • Advanced Gamemaster's Guide
  • Pathfinder 3: The Hook Horror Massacre
  • A Faery's Tale
  • Trojan War
  • Eternal Rome
  • Thieves World Player's Book
  • Empire of the Ghouls Hardcover
  • Delta Green Eyes Only
  • Iconic Bestiary: Classic Fey

Now I need some free time to digest all that.
