This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;322670The new designer for WFRP 3e... I tried to see if he had any credits on the Pen and paper archive, but he did not seem to.

Has he ever written a single RPG product before?
Some other kind of game?

Does he hang out on the Forge?

Do you ever read what you are going to post before you post it?

Quote from: One Horse Town;408730Dude, you can't necro an old thread and then play the, "can't comment" card.

Edit: That's not an official statement BTW - we rarely do those. It's a very low moderation board. As you're new, i thought i'd better point that out. Also, welcome!

:D In that case.... >< DCC 15: Crypt of the Devil Lich is f'in' brilliant!!!! But DCC 1: Idylls of the Rat King is even more f'in' brilliant and would make your dead gaming relatives roll over in their graves and grab dice!

(And thank you for the welcome.)

Please note: I used to be a freelance game designer that worked with Goodman Games over 5 years ago. I have no current ties to them, D&D in nearly any form, and I don't get royalties from any sales.

Crypt of the Devil Lich is pretty cool. :)

The whole post man.

You are one of the most divisive gamers on the web. It's sad really. You seem to enjoy gaming and you do post some interesting threads from time to time. But when you post shit like this, it just makes you seem petty and small minded.

I think its perfectly legitimate to ask about the prior history of a game designer who takes over a major RPG line.  I would have very different preconceptions (based on experiences with each) if it were announced an RPG line would be handled by, say, Jonathan Tweet than if it were announced for Vince Baker, than if it were announced for Bruce Baugh.

And likewise, I would have a different level of confidence (while keeping an open mind) if a gaming line was taken over by J. Random Unknown than if it was taken over by a known game designer who did stuff.

This isn't a witch hunt, its just fucking common sense. If you know that the guy who made X-Men 2 were to be handling a Wonder Woman TV series, you might have a different set of hopes and expectations for it than if you find out that the guy handling it was the creator of Chicago Hope and Picket Fences. Wouldn't you?

First of all, the game has been out quite a while now so why bring it up?

Second, the problem is your preconceptions. You would do much better as a game reviewer if you analyzed a game without any of those.

Seriously. What the hell does it matter who designed, produced, or developed the thing? Check the game out and let it stand on its own merits as a game. Game developers evolve over time and learn from successes and mistakes. Just because they did one thing with one game doesn't mean they will do the same design in another game.

Who did what before they did the other has no bearing on how you like the game that you are reading and playing RIGHT NOW. None at all.

The Butcher

Pundy, I understand, at least in part (even if I disagree with) your crazy crusade. Hell, I even respect it, because I share a few of your gaming biases, and especially because, regardless of your own doctrinal convictions, you do go out of your way to run a free-speech forum here. But really...

...the man's got a point there.

You're not a bad reviewer, but you do make some fairly nonsensical distinctions at times.

RPGPundit

I don't have preconceptions. I just have "conceptions". "preconceptions" supposes that I unfairly judge something for no good reason.  On the other hand, judging something because of experience is not unfair.

In those cases where improvement occurs, I've been perfectly capable of pointing it out. On the other hand, having a good knowledge of where a game fits in the context of both gaming history and the author's personal C.V. is a plus, not a minus, for the purpose of giving a thorough review.

If you were to review, say, NSYNC's newest album, knowing that they produced nothing but pre-fabricated schlock up to that point becomes perfectly valid knowledge going into the review, it situates the product in the context of history if the new album turns out to be garbage as well, and it is valuable information to know and highlight as a shocking turn of events if it turns out that they've produced the next Graceland instead.

Well, no. I'd hope that the end product would still fit my definition of what makes Wonder Woman.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

RPGPundit

Quote from: Ghost Whistler;409659Well, no. I'd hope that the end product would still fit my definition of what makes Wonder Woman.

But would you not be more skeptical that it would?
Would you not feel more certain if a guy who's done a number of highly-popular highly-successful superhero films were to be taking over Wonder Woman?
Would you not feel far less optimistic if a guy mostly known for making oddball semi-comedic dramas starring Feivush Finkel or Candice Bergen full of baby-boomer liberal WASP angst and cheap politically-correct causes-of-the-week, who's never done anything either action-oriented or epic even once in his career, were the one to be taking over Wonder Woman?

Go on, please tell me how you would not care, and its all the same to you, and prove yourself an idiot who has just been argued into a corner and is now willing to blindly bleat his refusal to accept reality rather than to admit defeat.
