This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What we can gleam from the Gamma World tidbits!

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;409700So a lot of Gamma World is about reskinning. I noticed a blog post over at Critical Hits (from Chris Sims) about that today as well.

Cool read. :)

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;409700It's not a PSH, it's an Engineered Human. They still get two origins, but you can reskin the second origin into tech.

How explicit is re-skinning in the GW RAW?

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;409700But Conspiracy might help you figure out what the Jiffy Lube sign is referring to on the building.

I am unclear why its called "Conspiracy" - what's their explanation?

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;409700As for guns: there's no assumption. It could be flintlock, wild west or submachine guns. They don't really make a distinction, other than light or heavy.

That staccato thumping I hear in the background are dozens of gun nut gamers collapsing from heart attacks across the nation.

Really?  No distinction on guns?  Is it stated in the rules? What do the illustrations tell us?

Oh, and when did the Apocalypse hit in this GW?

Yes, but simulating the powers of Thundarr the Barbarian with D&D or Gamma World is only half the story. If the game engine and is still driving you toward going up levels and acquiring stuff you are not capturing the soul of the show, just mimicing some of the trappings.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Just wanted to say that, from what I'm gathering from this thread and other places, GW seems to take the 4e core engine and make it much more flexible without adding (and maybe in fact reducing) complexity.

If that's the case, I really like the idea, and I'd love to see it applied to D&D some day.

I might even check out GW (though my copy of Mutant Future seems to be in perfect working order...) :D

I'm not sure I'd say it is more flexible or really reduces the complexity of the system too much. What is does is break away from D&D-isms to a certain degree and push Powers off onto discrete cards.

What is the soul of Thundarr show?

No, I'm not being snarky.

I am looking forward to the threads and sites devoted to the GW D&D conversion.

Heck, lots of us did that back with GW 1e so much so that Mutant Future has their Mazes & Mutants appendix for blending MF with Labyrinth Lord.
