This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So that moment in the Shops when you  notice your daughter has wandered off and you can't see her imediatly...... yeah.... that'd scare me

Definetly, though since my wife and I are careful we never really have that moment. My daughter is still young, so keeping an eye on her is quite a bit easier.

there are very, very few things that truly scar me...

Except, perhaps, for the boogeyman hiding in the hall...

Spiders.  They scare the hell out of me.  I hate being in dark, enclosed spaces not because of the dark, but becuase of the possibility of spiders dropping down on me.

Any time I have nightmares they usually involve Zombies.  Not really sure why.  I guess it has something to do with being persued to the point of having no escape and then being tore apart....

Clowns.  Clowns still creep me out.  I think I'd rather meet an unbalanced junkie alone in a dark alley than a clown who just stood there and grinned at me.

I also have this disturbing fear of needles puncturing my eyes.  I guess a syringe-wielding clown in a dark alley is pretty close to my idea of hell on earth.

Call it Paranoia... or being scared, but
« Reply #19 on: March 24, 2006, 12:10:44 AM »
Well, it's not really paranoia, it is just my most favorite hobby... but what scares me is this:

Do you know that each of you are logging into a site, where every little word that you post is accessible by anyone in the world.  And does it ever make you wonder who is watching the words that you alone say... they may follow your posts across the net... they may access your profile for other identifiable pieces of information about you.  If they come up with enough coincidental "matches" of information (that don't even have to be true) they can find other pieces of your information like your family's name... the location where you live... and, obviously they can find a list of things that scare you the most.  The can learn the way you think, what things or people in your life you hold dear.

Then, using all of this information can track down your favorite hang out or game store.  They can then follow you home.  Track your daily travel pattern.  They'll follow you to work and check your work schedule.  Then, one day, when you aren't there it all begins... the pieces all fall into place.

They watch you. They watch you get ready for work through your window.  Then, they hide... or wait in their car until you leave, as your wife waves you goodbye or as your daughter kisses your cheek as you walk out the door.  You'll leave just like every other day.  Without any inhibitions, they will enter your home.  With force.  Perform unspeakable acts to your wife, daughter, your son, or whomever may also be there.  They may thieve all of your worldly possessions.  They may steal your passport, money, or other pieces of identity.  Then... as they continue, they may chose to leave behind no witnesses of this account.

Then, after the coroner's report is funeral.  Then come the tourtureous nightmares.  Then suddenly driving one day, you are pulled over.  There is a warrant out for "your" arrest.  And, the bail bond agents won't lend you bail because you are suddenly over 10,000 in debt.  Then it is made clear to you by the investigator, that innocence is no longer actually presumed... you must prove to everyone that you are indeed not that person that murded a 7-11 clerk for the $50 in the till and a case of bud light.

All because you left a trail of what you are afraid of on some message board.

But... don't let that scare you.  I'm just standing up to my name.

Nope that doesn't concern or even worry me at all.  Anonymity is a lie that I've learned to accept and work with long ago.  We've lost our identities a long time ago and this whole new level of identity theft is just the newest form of forgery.

I've never been afraid of losing my mind.  It's not something I look forward to but if it happens from dementia or whatever I'll be too far gone to know or care.

There is one disease though that I do fear and it's that one where all your joints solidify and you can't move at all.  Thats some scary shit being trapped in your own body and being fully aware of everything.

I don't mind it happening to me so much as I do a loved one.  How horrible to have someone you love cease to recognize you.

I give you that.  There are few things in this world more heartbreaking than that.

Take what scared you… really scared you and make your players feel that too

That's doesn't work. *L* Fortunatly I can use their fears by talking to them, but my own fears are less useful. (Funny enough I think its the screwed up nature of my own brain chemistry, I don't have nominal fears of things.) But I can imagine others fears of say being eaten by Driver Ants as scary...just not particularly to me.

As for losing ones mind, what if you never had it found to begin with :D
