Everyone has to learn. And it's easiest to do so when you have a teacher, of some sort.

That's what I was trying to do with starting the "How to Run a Sandbox" topic in the Game Designer forum. But that sunk like a lead balloon. I know we're all not going to agree, but I wasn't expecting a unified front of advice. I think people in general have trouble learning to agree to disagree while still providing what has worked well for them. And then there's the schoolyard fight mentality; without contention, without attention.

It still languishes there. I may not have presented it as liked, but continuous effort can still make it into something better. I still think compiling practical advice from experienced GMs, especially if topically organized, would be a boon to novice GMs in the future.

No, I've noticed previously that several of my exchanges with soviet or in threads he was posting in immediately got posted to grognards.txt. Don't ask me for examples, I couldn't be bothered. Combine that with his storygame angle plus the delay in his denial of posting to SA and I would have questions.

Given that halloween jack got up to nazi antics for the entertainment of his fellow goons I have no difficulty painting the entire group with the same brush, which with their left liberal stylings rankles even further, entirely on purpose. Trolling the trolls as it were.

Making deliberately provocative comments towards the shared narrrative gang and in particular the goons and observing the results is a bit of a pastime of mine, like applying electricity to a dead frog pinned on an examination table and watching which body part jumps when the nerves are electrified. For example, one of these comments was sigged by ettin, which inevitably led to his cross forum humiliation. Not particularly interesting or unique group dynamics, I have to say.

Of course now they're aware of this so it will be trickier to push their buttons.

Having been quoted there myself, I believe you when you say this. I don't know if soviet is an SA member or not. But it is posible the reason those got posted there is because the SA member who did so was following you or soviet's posts. But if it is soviet (and I am not saying it is) I would think the reaction you are having now is exactly the kind he is trying to create. That is what trolls live for. They love to see their work discussed by frustrated posters.

You don't understand, their modus operandi is well known. So taking it one step further turns their trolling back on itself, hence the "nazi" allegations. That stuff makes them genuinely uncomfortable, look what we did to halloween jack for example.

Ettin's sig was a fairly spectacular effort, I knew some sort of grand gesture would result from my comments but had no idea such a plump and juicy fruit would fall out of the tree when it was rattled. Nice. I'd love to claim credit for the whole thing from end to end, but really I just set the paint bucket up over the door, he stepped through it entirely of his own volition. And then sat still dripping in his shiny new car.

Am I saying I use comments here to manipulate these chuckleheads from afar? Indeed I am. It's like hacking, they take information from here and process it in predictable ways. So by adjusting the information produced here, you can adjust their behaviour in predictable ways. And it's entirely their own fault.

Believe me, I'm far from frustrated. Of course, as mentioned previously, now they are aware of this, it will be a little more difficult to push their buttons. Meh, it was already shooting fish in a barrel I suppose.

Big difference between trollbaiting and trolling.

For example, your first contribution to my thread, almost immediately after it was posted, was classic trolling, an objectionable comment designed specifically to stir up emotional responses and derail the thread. That is the definition of a troll. You didn't get the response you wanted though, and then got butthurt over it. You then followed me into different threads trailing your butthurt all over the site, trying to derail these other threads in the process.

You can see how this might not look good.
