This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The best thing that I've ever found was a hard-cover copy of Warhammer's Slaves to Darkness for 2.50.

Yes I did a thorough search of the entire store for its superior sister volume: the Lost and the Damned, but it wasn't there :( .

Nice - I had to spend a bit more when I found a copy, but 9$ wasn't too bad... I later sold it on for ten times that much, and the new owner still thought it was a bargain. A local flgs has a used copy for sale, priced 140$.

While walking past a comics/gaming shop one night, I spotted a couple of books sitting by the bins on the street.

  • The Enemy Within/Shadows Over Bogenhafen
  • Holmes Basic D&D (Games Workshop's UK version with the blue cover)
Both were in excellent condition.

I saw brand new Gamma Worlds at the Barnes and Noble here.
The most beautiful peonies I ever saw ... were grown in almost pure cat excrement.

Sometimes in the early 2000s, at the surplus book shelf of the local library I picked up a pristine copy of Shadowrun's Magic in the Shadows for 0.50 EUR - at a time when it was still the current magic rulebook selling for 22 EUR.

I still have no idea how it ever ended up there. They never had any RPG books in stock apart of some RPG tie-in novels, and as I was lending Shadowrun novels left and right and centerstage I sure would have noticed if it ever had been listed in the catalogue.

I found a Top Secret boxed set, with the pink and white dice still in the bag, the books in mint condition, with the first adventure module, AND the administrator's screen for $3.99 at a local GoodWill.

The best find of all time for me was 8 or 9 copies of Avalon Hill's Rail Baron for $0.99.  All but one was complete.  I sold them for $45 each on ebay (Buy it Now), and they paid for GenCon that year.

A friend of mine wants to sell me his Oriental Adventures (1st edition hardcover) for 5 bucks.

I was just reading the history of D&D and it came up as an interesting milestone.

Do you folks think that it's worth it?

It's worth it. You can usually get a used copy on eBay/Amazon for 10 to 15 bucks. I paid ten + shipping for mine a few years ago, and I just wanted a copy for my shelf. Grab it for $5 and if you feel guilty afterwards buy your friend lunch sometime.
