This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What BRP Game/Edition Has The Best Rules?

Imperator

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Lawbag

Elfquest is elegantly simple. Its a streamlined version of RQ2

CoC - now I would have voted for this version of BRP, but it really is a bare bones system that while could handle decent sword fights, spells and missle weapons/guns - the rules are fairly empty of rulings for things outside the investigator remit.
"See you on the Other Side"

Notably absent in my commentary on the BRP system -- my go-to mechanics for 20 years -- is any incarnation of CoC, and I think it's for the very reason that you cite here.  It's a lot like the popular guy in high school who remained popular mostly by virtue of the fact that he'd always been popular -- once you got to know his personality, there wasn't much special there.  Which in no way condemns CoC, in any of its iterations, as a bad game.  It's one of the workhorses I mentioned earlier in the thread.

Care to elaborate on the differences? It's been a while since I played RQIII, but I'm currently stuck in my old apartment, where the only remaining RPGs are Atlantis:2nd Age, Elfquest and Spacemaster...

I second that request. I'd always thought RQ2 was a pretty streamlined system in itself, so it would be interesting to know how Elfquest does it better. :emot-ham:

Quote from: grubmanI'd have to go with CoC 3rd ed+, mostly because I hate hit location charts.
I like RQ2, and not only because I like hit location charts.
